- The LORD said to Moses,
- "Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people."
- So Moses said to the people, "Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites and to carry out the LORD's vengeance on them.
- Send into battle a thousand men from each of the tribes of Israel."
- So twelve thousand men armed for battle, a thousand from each tribe, were supplied from the clans of Israel.

- 主は モ ― セ に 告げて 仰せられた．
- 「ミデヤン 人に イスラエル 人の 仇を 報いよ． その 後あなたは， あなたの 民に 加えられる． 」
- そこで モ ― セ は 民に 告げて 言った． 「あなたがたのうち， 男たちは， いくさのために 武裝しなさい． ミデヤン 人を 襲って， ミデヤン 人に 主の 復讐をするためである．

- Moses sent them into battle, a thousand from each tribe, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, who took with him articles from the sanctuary and the trumpets for signaling.
- They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man.
- Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba--the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.
- The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder.
- They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps.

- They took all the plunder and spoils, including the people and animals,
- and brought the captives, spoils and plunder to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the Israelite assembly at their camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho.
- Moses, Eleazar the priest and all the leaders of the community went to meet them outside the camp.
- Moses was angry with the officers of the army--the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds--who returned from the battle.
- "Have you allowed all the women to live?" he asked them.

- そして 人も ¿も， 略奪したものや 分捕ったものをすべて 取り，

- "They were the ones who followed Balaam's advice and were the means of turning the Israelites away from the LORD in what happened at Peor, so that a plague struck the LORD's people.
- Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man,
- but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.
- "All of you who have killed anyone or touched anyone who was killed must stay outside the camp seven days. On the third and seventh days you must purify yourselves and your captives.
- Purify every garment as well as everything made of leather, goat hair or wood."

- ああ， この 女たちは バラム の 事件のおり， ペオル の 事件に 關連して イスラエル 人をそそのかして， 主に 對する 不實を 行なわせた． それで 神罰が 主の 會衆の 上に 下ったのだ．

- 男と 寢ることを 知らない 若い 娘たちはみな， あなたがたのために 生かしておけ．
- あなたがたは 七日間， 宿營の 外にとどまれ． あなたがたでも， あなたがたの 捕虜でも， 人を 殺した 者， あるいは 刺し 殺された 者に 觸れた 者はだれでも， 三日目と 七日目に 罪の 身をきよめなければならない．
- 衣服， 皮製品， やぎの 毛で 作ったもの， 木製品はすべてきよめなければならない． 」

- Then Eleazar the priest said to the soldiers who had gone into battle, "This is the requirement of the law that the LORD gave Moses:
- Gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, lead
- and anything else that can withstand fire must be put through the fire, and then it will be clean. But it must also be purified with the water of cleansing. And whatever cannot withstand fire must be put through that water.
- On the seventh day wash your clothes and you will be clean. Then you may come into the camp."
- The LORD said to Moses,

- 祭司 エルアザル は 戰いに 行った 軍人たちに 言った． 「主が モ ― セ に 命じられたおしえのおきては 次のとおりである．
- 金， 銀， 靑銅， 鐵， すず， 鉛，
- すべて 火に 耐えるものは， 火の 中を 通し， きよくしなければならない． しかし， それは 汚れをきよめる 水できよめられなければならない． 火に 耐えないものはみな， 水の 中を 通さなければならない．
- あなたがたは 七日目に 自分の 衣服を 洗うなら， きよくなる． その 後， 宿營にはいることができる． 」

- "You and Eleazar the priest and the family heads of the community are to count all the people and animals that were captured.
- Divide the spoils between the soldiers who took part in the battle and the rest of the community.
- From the soldiers who fought in the battle, set apart as tribute for the LORD one out of every five hundred, whether persons, cattle, donkeys, sheep or goats.
- Take this tribute from their half share and give it to Eleazar the priest as the LORD's part.
- From the Israelites' half, select one out of every fifty, whether persons, cattle, donkeys, sheep, goats or other animals. Give them to the Levites, who are responsible for the care of the LORD's tabernacle."

- 「あなたと， 祭司 エルアザル および 會衆の 氏族のかしらたちは， 人と 家畜で 捕虜として 分捕ったものの 數を 調べ，
- その 分捕ったものをいくさに 出て 取って 來た 戰士たちと， 全會衆との 間に 二分せよ．
- いくさに 出た 戰士たちからは， 人や 牛やろばや 羊を， それぞれ 五百に 對して 一つ， 主のためにみつぎとして 徵收せよ．
- 彼らが 受ける 分のうちからこれを 取って， 主への 奉納物として 祭司 エルアザル に 渡さなければならない．
- イスラエル 人が 受ける 分のうちから， 人や 牛やろばや 羊， これらすべての 家畜を， それぞれ 五十に 對して 一つ， 取り 出しておき， それらを 主の 幕屋の 任務を 果たす レビ 人に 與えなければならない． 」

- So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.
- The plunder remaining from the spoils that the soldiers took was 675,000 sheep,
- 72,000 cattle,
- 61,000 donkeys
- and 32,000 women who had never slept with a man.

- そこで モ ― セ と 祭司 エルアザル は， 主が モ ― セ に 命じられたとおりに 行なった．
- 從軍した 民が 奪った 戰利品以外の 分捕りものは， 羊六十七万五千頭，
- 牛七万二千頭，
- ろば 六万一千頭，
- 人間は 男と 寢ることを 知らない 女がみなで 三万二千人であった．

- The half share of those who fought in the battle was: 337,500 sheep,
- of which the tribute for the LORD was 675;
- 36,000 cattle, of which the tribute for the LORD was 72;
- 30,500 donkeys, of which the tribute for the LORD was 61;
- 16,000 people, of which the tribute for the LORD was 32.

- この 半分がいくさに 出た 人¿への 分け 前で， 羊の 數は 三十三万七千五百頭．
- その 羊のうちから 主へのみつぎは 六百七十五頭．
- 牛は 三万六千頭で， そのうちから 主へのみつぎは 七十二頭．
- ろばは 三万五百頭で， そのうちから 主へのみつぎは 六十一頭．
- 人間は 一万六千人で， そのうちから 主へのみつぎは 三十二人であった．

- Moses gave the tribute to Eleazar the priest as the LORD's part, as the LORD commanded Moses.
- The half belonging to the Israelites, which Moses set apart from that of the fighting men-
- the community's half--was 337,500 sheep,
- 36,000 cattle,
- 30,500 donkeys

- モ ― セ は， 主が モ ― セ に 命じられたとおりに， そのみつぎ， すなわち， 主への 奉納物を 祭司 エルアザル に 渡した．
- モ ― セ がいくさに 出た 者たちに 折半して 與えた 殘り， すなわち， イスラエル 人のものである 半分，
- つまり 會衆のものである 半分は， 羊三十三万七千五百頭，

- and 16,000 people.
- From the Israelites' half, Moses selected one out of every fifty persons and animals, as the LORD commanded him, and gave them to the Levites, who were responsible for the care of the LORD's tabernacle.
- Then the officers who were over the units of the army--the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds--went to Moses
- and said to him, "Your servants have counted the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing.
- So we have brought as an offering to the LORD the gold articles each of us acquired--armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings and necklaces--to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD."

- 人間は 一万六千人であった．
- モ ― セ は， この イスラエル 人のものである 半分から， 人間も 家畜も， それぞれ 五十ごとに 一つを 取り 出し， それらを 主が モ ― セ に 命じられたとおりに， 主の 幕屋の 任務を 果たす レビ 人に 與えた．
- すると， 軍團の 指揮官たち， すなわち 千人の 長， 百人の 長たちが モ ― セ のもとに 進み 出て，
- モ ― セ に 言った． 「しもべどもは， 部下の 戰士たちの 人員点呼をしました． 私たちのうちひとりも 欠けておりません．
- それで， 私たちは， おのおのが 手に 入れた 金の 飾り 物， すなわち 腕飾り， 腕輪， 指輪， 耳輪， 首飾りなどを 主へのささげ 物として 持って 來て， 主の 前での 私たち 自身の ·いとしたいのです． 」

- Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted from them the gold--all the crafted articles.
- All the gold from the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds that Moses and Eleazar presented as a gift to the LORD weighed 16,750 shekels.
- Each soldier had taken plunder for himself.
- Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted the gold from the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds and brought it into the Tent of Meeting as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.
