- After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized.
- Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were constantly coming to be baptized.
- (This was before John was put in prison.)
- An argument developed between some of John's disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing.
- They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan--the one you testified about--well, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him."

- その 後， イエス は 弟子たちと， ユダヤ の 地に 行き， 彼らとともにそこに 滯在して， バプテスマ を 授けておられた．
- 一方 ヨハネ も サリム に 近い アイノン で バプテスマ を 授けていた． そこには 水が 多かったからである． 人¿は 次¿にやって 來て， バプテスマ を 受けていた．
- ·· ヨハネ は， まだ 投獄されていなかったからである． ··
- それで， ヨハネ の 弟子たちが， ある ユダヤ 人ときよめについて 論議した．
- 彼らは ヨハネ のところに 來て 言った． 「先生． 見てください． ヨルダン の 向こう 岸であなたといっしょにいて， あなたが 證言なさったあの 方が， バプテスマ を 授けておられます． そして， みなあの 方のほうへ 行きます． 」

- To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven.
- You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ but am sent ahead of him.'
- The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.
- He must become greater; I must become less.
- "The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

- ヨハネ は 答えて 言った． 「人は， 天から 與えられるのでなければ， 何も 受けることはできません．
- あなたがたこそ， 『私は キリスト ではなく， その 前に 遣わされた 者である． 』と 私が 言ったことの 證人です．
- 花嫁を 迎える 者は 花¿です． そこにいて， 花¿のことばに 耳を 傾けているその 友人は， 花¿の 聲を 聞いて 大いに 喜びます． それで， 私もその 喜びで 滿たされているのです．
- あの 方は 盛んになり 私は 衰えなければなりません． 」
- 上から 來る 方は， すべてのものの 上におられ， 地から 出る 者は 地に 屬し， 地のことばを 話す． 天から 來る 方は， すべてのものの 上におられる．

- He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony.
- The man who has accepted it has certified that God is truthful.
- For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.
- The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands.
- Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."

- この 方は 見たこと， また 聞いたことをあかしされるが， だれもそのあかしを 受け 入れない．
- そのあかしを 受け 入れた 者は， 神は 眞實であるということに 確認の 印を 押したのである．
- 神がお 遣わしになった 方は， 神のことばを 話される． 神が 御靈を 無限に 與えられるからである．
- 父は 御子を 愛しておられ， 万物を 御子の 手にお 渡しになった．
- 御子を 信じる 者は 永遠のいのちを 持つが， 御子に 聞き 從わない 者は， いのちを 見ることがなく， 神の 怒りがその 上にとどまる．
