	사무엘상 29:1-31:13 블레셋과 이스라엘의 전쟁에 참여한 다윗은 동족과 싸워야 할 위기에 처했으나, 블레셋 방백들의 견제로 그 위기를 모면했다. 아말렉이 시글락을 약탈하자 다윗은 그 뒤를 추격하여 탈취당한 노략물을 되찾아 분배했다. 사울이 블레셋과의 전투에서 패하여 그의 아들들과 함께 죽자, 길르앗 야베스 사람들이 그 시체를 수습하여 장사했다.

	다윗과 아기스(29:1-29:11)

The Philistines gathered all their forces at Aphek, and Israel camped by the spring in Jezreel.

As the Philistine rulers marched with their units of hundreds and thousands, David and his men were marching at the rear with Achish.

The commanders of the Philistines asked, "What about these Hebrews?" Achish replied, "Is this not David, who was an officer of Saul king of Israel? He has already been with me for over a year, and from the day he left Saul until now, I have found no fault in him."

But the Philistine commanders were angry with him and said, "Send the man back, that he may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn against us during the fighting. How better could he regain his master's favor than by taking the heads of our own men?

Isn't this the David they sang about in their dances: " 'Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands'?"

さて，ペリシテ人は全軍をアフェクに集結し，イスラエル人はイズレエルにある泉のほとりに陣を敷いた．

So Achish called David and said to him, "As surely as the LORD lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day you came to me until now, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers don't approve of you.

Turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers."

"But what have I done?" asked David. "What have you found against your servant from the day I came to you until now? Why can't I go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?"

Achish answered, "I know that you have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel of God; nevertheless, the Philistine commanders have said, 'He must not go up with us into battle.'

Now get up early, along with your master's servants who have come with you, and leave in the morning as soon as it is light."

そこでアキシュはダビデを呼んで言った．「主は生きておられる．あなたは正しい人だ．私は，あなたに陣營で，私と行動を共にしてもらいたかった．あなたが私のところに來てから今日まで，私はあなたに何の惡いところも見つけなかったのだから．しかし，あの領主たちは，あなたを良いと思っていない．

だから今のところ，穩やかに歸ってくれ．ペリシテ人の領主たちの，氣に入らないことはしないでくれ．」

ダビデはアキシュに言った．「私が何をしたというのでしょうか．私があなたに仕えた日から今日まで，このしもべに何か，あやまちでもあったのでしょうか．王さまの敵と戰うために私が出陣できないとは．」

アキシュはダビデに答えて言った．「私は，あなたが神の使いのように正しいということを知っている．だが，ペリシテ人の首長たちが，『彼はわれわれといっしょに戰いに行ってはならない．』と言ったのだ．

さあ，あなたは，いっしょに來たあなたの主君のしもべたちと，あしたの朝，早く起きなさい．朝早く起きて，明るくなったら出かけなさい．」

So David and his men got up early in the morning to go back to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

そこで，ダビデとその部下は，翌朝早く，ペリシテ人の地へ歸って行った．ペリシテ人はイズレエルへ上って行った．

David and his men reached Ziklag on the third day. Now the Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag and burned it,

and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both young and old. They killed none of them, but carried them off as they went on their way.

When David and his men came to Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive.

So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep.

David's two wives had been captured--Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel.

ダビデとその部下が，三日目にツィケラグに歸ってみると，アマレク人がネゲブとツィケラグを襲ったあとだった．彼らはツィケラグを攻擊して，これを火で燒き拂い，

David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.

Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Bring me the ephod." Abiathar brought it to him,

and David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?" "Pursue them," he answered. "You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue."

David and the six hundred men with him came to the Besor Ravine, where some stayed behind,

for two hundred men were too exhausted to cross the ravine. But David and four hundred men continued the pursuit.

ダビデは非常に惱んだ．民がみな，自分たちの息子，娘たちのことで心を惱まし，ダビデを石で打ち殺そうと言いだしたからである．しかし，ダビデは彼の神，主によって奮い立った．

ダビデが，アヒメレクの子，祭司エブヤタルに，「エポデを持って來なさい．」と言ったので，エブヤタルはエポデをダビデのところに持って來た．

ダビデは主に伺って言った．「あの略奪隊を追うべきでしょうか．追いつけるでしょうか．」するとお答えになった．「追え．必ず追いつくことができる．必ず救い出すことができる．」

They found an Egyptian in a field and brought him to David. They gave him water to drink and food to eat-

part of a cake of pressed figs and two cakes of raisins. He ate and was revived, for he had not eaten any food or drunk any water for three days and three nights.

David asked him, "To whom do you belong, and where do you come from?" He said, "I am an Egyptian, the slave of an Amalekite. My master abandoned me when I became ill three days ago.

We raided the Negev of the Kerethites and the territory belonging to Judah and the Negev of Caleb. And we burned Ziklag."

David asked him, "Can you lead me down to this raiding party?" He answered, "Swear to me before God that you will not kill me or hand me over to my master, and I will take you down to them."

彼らはひとりのエジプト人を野原で見つけ，ダビデのところに連れて來た．彼らは彼にパンをやって，食べさせ，水も飮ませた．

He led David down, and there they were, scattered over the countryside, eating, drinking and reveling because of the great amount of plunder they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from Judah.

David fought them from dusk until the evening of the next day, and none of them got away, except four hundred young men who rode off on camels and fled.

David recovered everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives.

Nothing was missing: young or old, boy or girl, plunder or anything else they had taken. David brought everything back.

He took all the flocks and herds, and his men drove them ahead of the other livestock, saying, "This is David's plunder."

彼がダビデを案內して行くと，ちょうど，彼らはその地いっぱいに散って飮み食いし，お祭り ¿ぎをしていた．彼らがペリシテ人の地やユダの地から，非常に多くの分捕り物を奪ったからである．

Then David came to the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to follow him and who were left behind at the Besor Ravine. They came out to meet David and the people with him. As David and his men approached, he greeted them.

But all the evil men and troublemakers among David's followers said, "Because they did not go out with us, we will not share with them the plunder we recovered. However, each man may take his wife and children and go."

David replied, "No, my brothers, you must not do that with what the LORD has given us. He has protected us and handed over to us the forces that came against us.

Who will listen to what you say? The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike."

David made this a statute and ordinance for Israel from that day to this.

ダビデが，疲れてダビデについて來ることができずにベソル川のほとりにとどまっていた二百人の者のところに來たとき，彼らはダビデと彼に從った者たちを迎えに出て來た．ダビデはこの人たちに近づいて彼らの安否を尋ねた．

そのとき，ダビデといっしょに行った者たちのうち，意地の惡い，よこしまな者たちがみな，口¿に言った．「彼らはいっしょに行かなかったのだから，われわれが取り戾した分捕り物を，彼らに分けてやるわけにはいかない．ただ，めいめい自分の妻と子供を連れて行くがよい．」

ダビデは言った．「兄弟たちよ．主が私たちに賜わった物を，そのようにしてはならない．主が私たちを守り，私たちを襲った略奪隊を私たちの手に渡されたのだ．

だれが，このことについて，あなたがたの言うことを聞くだろうか．戰いに下って行った者への分け前も，荷物のそばにとどまっていた者への分け前も同じだ．共に同じく分け合わなければならない．」

その日以來，ダビデはこれをイスラエルのおきてとし，定めとした．今日もそうである．

When David arrived in Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to the elders of Judah, who were his friends, saying, "Here is a present for you from the plunder of the LORD's enemies."

He sent it to those who were in Bethel, Ramoth Negev and Jattir;

to those in Aroer, Siphmoth, Eshtemoa

and Racal; to those in the towns of the Jerahmeelites and the Kenites;

to those in Hormah, Bor Ashan, Athach

ダビデはツィケラグに歸って，友人であるユダの長老たちに分捕り物のいくらかを送って言った．「これはあなたがたへの贈り物で，主の敵からの分捕り物の一部です．」

その送り先は，ベテルの人¿，ネゲブのラモテの人¿，ヤティルの人¿，

アロエルの人¿，シフモテの人¿，エシュテモアの人¿，

ラカルの人¿，エラフメエル人の町¿の人たち，ケニ人の町¿の人たち，

and Hebron; and to those in all the other places where David and his men had roamed.

	사울의 죽음(31:1-31:13)

Now the Philistines fought against Israel; the Israelites fled before them, and many fell slain on Mount Gilboa.

The Philistines pressed hard after Saul and his sons, and they killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua.

The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him critically.

Saul said to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me." But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it.

When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died with him.

ペリシテ人はイスラエルと戰った．そのとき，イスラエルの人¿はペリシテ人の前から逃げ，ギルボア山で刺し殺されて倒れた．

ペリシテ人はサウルとその息子たちに追い迫って，サウルの息子ヨナタン，アビナダブ，マルキ · シュアを打ち殺した．

So Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer and all his men died together that same day.

When the Israelites along the valley and those across the Jordan saw that the Israelite army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their towns and fled. And the Philistines came and occupied them.

The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

They cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and they sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among their people.

They put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.

こうしてその日，サウルと彼の三人の息子，道具持ち，それにサウルの部下たちはみな，共に死んだ．

谷の向こう側とヨルダン川の向こう側にいたイスラエルの人¿は，イスラエルの兵士たちが逃げ，サウルとその息子たちが死んだのを見て，町¿を捨てて逃げ去った．それでペリシテ人がやって來て，そこに住んだ．

When the people of Jabesh Gilead heard of what the Philistines had done to Saul,

all their valiant men journeyed through the night to Beth Shan. They took down the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth Shan and went to Jabesh, where they burned them.

Then they took their bones and buried them under a tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.

ヤベシュ · ギルアデの住民が，ペリシテ人のサウルに對するしうちを聞いたとき，

勇士たちはみな，立ち上がり，夜通し步いて行って，サウルの死體と，その息子たちの死體とをベテ · シャンの城壁から取りはずし，これをヤベシュに運んで，そこで燒いた．

それから，その骨を取って，ヤベシュにある柳の木の下に葬り，七日間，斷食した．
