- In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea
- and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."
- This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.' "
- John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
- People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan.

- そのころ， バプテスマ の ヨハネ が 現れ， ユダヤ の 荒野で 敎を 宣べて 言った，
- 「悔い 改めよ， 天國は 近づいた 」．
- 預言者 イザヤ によって， 「荒野で 呼ばわる 者の 聲がする， 『主の 道を 備えよ， その 道筋をまっすぐにせよ 』」と 言われたのは， この 人のことである．
- この ヨハネ は， らくだの 毛ごろもを 着物にし， 腰に 皮の 帶をしめ， いなごと 野蜜とを 食物としていた．
- すると， エルサレム と ユダヤ 全土と ヨルダン 附近一帶の 人¿が， ぞくぞくと ヨハネ のところに 出てきて，

- Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
- But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
- Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.
- And do not think you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
- The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

- 自分の 罪を 告白し， ヨルダン 川で ヨハネ から バプテスマ を 受けた．
- ヨハネ は， パリサイ 人や サドカイ 人が 大ぜい バプテスマ を 受けようとしてきたのを 見て， 彼らに 言った， 「まむしの 子らよ， 迫ってきている 神の 怒りから， おまえたちはのがれられると， だれが 敎えたのか．
- だから， 悔改めにふさわしい 實を 結べ．
- 自分たちの 父には アブラハム があるなどと， 心の 中で 思ってもみるな． おまえたちに 言っておく， 神はこれらの 石ころからでも， アブラハム の 子を 起すことができるのだ．
- 斧がすでに 木の 根もとに 置かれている． だから， 良い 實を 結ばない 木はことごとく 切られて， 火の 中に 投げ ¿まれるのだ．

- "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
- His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
- Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
- But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"
- Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.

- わたしは 悔改めのために， 水でおまえたちに バプテスマ を 授けている． しかし， わたしのあとから 來る 人はわたしよりも 力のあるかたで， わたしはそのくつをぬがせてあげる 値うちもない． このかたは， 聖靈と 火とによっておまえたちに バプテスマ をお 授けになるであろう．
- また， 箕を 手に 持って， 打ち 場の 麥をふるい 分け， 麥は 倉に 納め， からは 消えない 火で 燒き 捨てるであろう 」．
- そのとき イエス は， ガリラヤ を 出て ヨルダン 川に 現れ， ヨハネ のところにきて， バプテスマ を 受けようとされた．
- ところが ヨハネ は， それを 思いとどまらせようとして 言った， 「わたしこそあなたから バプテスマ を 受けるはずですのに， あなたがわたしのところにおいでになるのですか 」．
- しかし， イエス は 答えて 言われた， 「今は 受けさせてもらいたい． このように， すべての 正しいことを 成就するのは， われわれにふさわしいことである 」． そこで ヨハネ は イエス の 言われるとおりにした．

- As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.
- And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

- イエス は バプテスマ を 受けるとすぐ， 水から 上がられた． すると， 見よ， 天が 開け， 神の 御靈がはとのように 自分の 上に 下ってくるのを， ごらんになった．
- また 天から 聲があって 言った， 「これはわたしの 愛する 子， わたしの 心にかなう 者である 」．
