- わたしは， 自分からは 何事もすることができない． ただ 聞くままにさばくのである． そして， わたしのこのさばきは 正しい． それは， わたし 自身の 考えでするのではなく， わたしをつかわされたかたの， み 旨を 求めているからである．
- もし， わたしが 自分自身についてあかしをするならば， わたしのあかしはほんとうではない．
- わたしについてあかしをするかたはほかにあり， そして， その 人がするあかしがほんとうであることを， わたしは 知っている．
- あなたがたは ヨハネ のもとへ 人をつかわしたが， そのとき 彼は 眞理についてあかしをした．
- わたしは 人からあかしを 受けないが， このことを 言うのは， あなたがたが 救われるためである．

- John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.
- "I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me.
- And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,
- nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent.
- You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me,

- ヨハネ は 燃えて 輝くあかりであった． あなたがたは， しばらくの 間その 光を 喜び 樂しもうとした．
- しかし， わたしには， ヨハネ のあかしよりも， もっと 力あるあかしがある． 父がわたしに 成就させようとしてお 與えになったわざ， すなわち， 今わたしがしているこのわざが， 父のわたしをつかわされたことをあかししている．
- また， わたしをつかわされた 父も， ご 自分でわたしについてあかしをされた． あなたがたは， まだそのみ 聲を 聞いたこともなく， そのみ 姿を 見たこともない．

- yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
- "I do not accept praise from men,
- but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.
- I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.
- How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?

- しかも， あなたがたは， 命を 得るためにわたしのもとにこようともしない．
- わたしは 人からの 譽を 受けることはしない．
- しかし， あなたがたのうちには 神を 愛する 愛がないことを 知っている．
- わたしは 父の 名によってきたのに， あなたがたはわたしを 受けいれない． もし， ほかの 人が 彼自身の 名によって 來るならば， その 人を 受けいれるのであろう．
- 互に 譽を 受けながら， ただひとりの 神からの 譽を 求めようとしないあなたがたは， どうして 信じることができようか．

- "But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.
- If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
- But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"

- わたしがあなたがたのことを 父に 訴えると， 考えてはいけない． あなたがたを 訴える 者は， あなたがたが 賴みとしている モ ― セ その 人である．
- もし， あなたがたが モ ― セ を 信じたならば， わたしをも 信じたであろう． モ ― セ は， わたしについて 書いたのである．
