	사무엘상 29:1-31:13 블레셋과 이스라엘의 전쟁에 참여한 다윗은 동족과 싸워야 할 위기에 처했으나, 블레셋 방백들의 견제로 그 위기를 모면했다. 아말렉이 시글락을 약탈하자 다윗은 그 뒤를 추격하여 탈취당한 노략물을 되찾아 분배했다. 사울이 블레셋과의 전투에서 패하여 그의 아들들과 함께 죽자, 길르앗 야베스 사람들이 그 시체를 수습하여 장사했다.

	다윗과 아기스(29:1-29:11)

The Philistines gathered all their forces at Aphek, and Israel camped by the spring in Jezreel.

As the Philistine rulers marched with their units of hundreds and thousands, David and his men were marching at the rear with Achish.

The commanders of the Philistines asked, "What about these Hebrews?" Achish replied, "Is this not David, who was an officer of Saul king of Israel? He has already been with me for over a year, and from the day he left Saul until now, I have found no fault in him."

But the Philistine commanders were angry with him and said, "Send the man back, that he may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn against us during the fighting. How better could he regain his master's favor than by taking the heads of our own men?

Isn't this the David they sang about in their dances: " 'Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands'?"

さてペリシテびとは，その軍勢をことごとくアペクに集めた．イスラエルびとはエズレルにある泉のかたわらに陣を取った．

ペリシテびとの君たちは，あるいは百人，あるいは千人を率いて進み，ダビデとその從者たちはアキシと共に，しんがりになって進んだ．

その時，ペリシテびとの君たちは言った，「これらのヘブルびとはここで何をしているのか」．アキシはペリシテびとたちに言った，「これはイスラエルの王サウルのしもべダビデではないか．彼はこの日ごろ，この年ごろ，わたしと共にいたが，逃げ落ちてきた日からきょうまで，わたしは彼にあやまちがあったのを見たことがない」．

これは，かつて人¿が踊りのうちに歌いかわして，／『サウルは千を擊ち殺し，／ダビデは万を擊ち殺した』／と言った，あのダビデではないか」．

So Achish called David and said to him, "As surely as the LORD lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day you came to me until now, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers don't approve of you.

Turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers."

"But what have I done?" asked David. "What have you found against your servant from the day I came to you until now? Why can't I go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?"

Achish answered, "I know that you have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel of God; nevertheless, the Philistine commanders have said, 'He must not go up with us into battle.'

Now get up early, along with your master's servants who have come with you, and leave in the morning as soon as it is light."

そこでアキシはダビデを呼んで言った，「主は生きておられる．あなたは正しい人である．あなたがわたしと一緖に戰いに出入りすることをわたしは良いと思っている．それはあなたがわたしの所にきた日からこの日まで，わたしは，あなたに惡い事があったのを見たことがないからである．しかしペリシテびとの君たちはあなたを良く言わない．

それゆえ今安らかに歸って行きなさい．彼らが惡いと思うことはしないがよかろう」．

ダビデはアキシに言った，「しかしわたしが何をしたというのですか．わたしがあなたに仕えはじめた日からこの日までに，あなたはしもべの身に何を見られたので，わたしは行って，わたしの主君である王の敵と戰うことができないのですか」．

アキシはダビデに答えた，「わたしは見て，あなたが神の使のようにりっぱな人であることを知っている．しかし，ペリシテびとの君たちは，『われわれと一緖に彼を戰いに上らせてはならない』と言っている．

それで，あなたは，一緖にきたあなたの主君のしもべたちと共に朝早く起きなさい．そして朝早く起き，夜が明けてから去りなさい」．

So David and his men got up early in the morning to go back to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

こうしてダビデとその從者たちとは共にペリシテびとの地へ歸ろうと，朝早く起きて出立したが，ペリシテびとはエズレルへ上って行った．

	아말렉을 멸한 다윗(30:1-30:31)

David and his men reached Ziklag on the third day. Now the Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag and burned it,

and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both young and old. They killed none of them, but carried them off as they went on their way.

When David and his men came to Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive.

So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep.

David's two wives had been captured--Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel.

さてダビデとその從者たちが三日目にチクラグにきた時，アマレクびとはすでにネゲブとチクラグを襲っていた．彼らはチクラグを擊ち，火をはなってこれを燒き，

その中にいた女たちおよびすべての者を捕虜にし，小さい者をも大きい者をも，ひとりも殺さずに，引いて，その道に行った．

ダビデと從者たちはその町にきて，町が火で燒かれ，その妻とむすこ娘らは捕虜となったのを見た．

ダビデおよび彼と共にいた民は聲をあげて泣き，ついに泣く力もなくなった．

ダビデのふたりの妻すなわちエズレルの女アヒノアムと，カルメルびとナバルの妻であったアビガイルも捕虜になった．

David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.

Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Bring me the ephod." Abiathar brought it to him,

and David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?" "Pursue them," he answered. "You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue."

David and the six hundred men with him came to the Besor Ravine, where some stayed behind,

for two hundred men were too exhausted to cross the ravine. But David and four hundred men continued the pursuit.

その時，ダビデはひじょうに惱んだ．それは民がみなおのおのそのむすこ娘のために心を痛めたため，ダビデを石で擊とうと言ったからである．しかしダビデはその神，主によって自分を力づけた．

ダビデはアヒメレクの子，祭司アビヤタルに，「エポデをわたしのところに持ってきなさい」と言ったので，アビヤタルは，エポデをダビデのところに持ってきた．

ダビデは主に伺いをたてて言った，「わたしはこの軍隊のあとを追うべきですか．わたしはそれに追いつくことができましょうか」．主は彼に言われた，「追いなさい．あなたは必ず追いついて，確かに救い出すことができるであろう」．

そこでダビデは，一緖にいた六百人の者と共に出立してベソル川へ行ったが，あとに殘る者はそこにとどまった．

すなわちダビデは四百人と共に追擊をつづけたが，疲れてベソル川を渡れない者二百人はとどまった．

They found an Egyptian in a field and brought him to David. They gave him water to drink and food to eat-

part of a cake of pressed figs and two cakes of raisins. He ate and was revived, for he had not eaten any food or drunk any water for three days and three nights.

David asked him, "To whom do you belong, and where do you come from?" He said, "I am an Egyptian, the slave of an Amalekite. My master abandoned me when I became ill three days ago.

We raided the Negev of the Kerethites and the territory belonging to Judah and the Negev of Caleb. And we burned Ziklag."

David asked him, "Can you lead me down to this raiding party?" He answered, "Swear to me before God that you will not kill me or hand me over to my master, and I will take you down to them."

彼らは野で，ひとりのエジプトびとを見て，それをダビデのもとに引いてきて，パンを食べさせ，水を飮ませた．

また彼らはほしいちじくのかたまり一つと，ほしぶどう二ふさを彼に與えた．彼は食べて元氣を回復した．彼は三日三夜，パンを食べず，水を飮んでいなかったからである．

ダビデは彼に言った，「あなたはだれのものか．どこからきたのか」．彼は言った，「わたしはエジプトの若者で，アマレクびとの奴隷です．三日前にわたしが病氣になったので，主人はわたしを捨てて行きました．

わたしどもは，ケレテびとのネゲブと，ユダに屬する地と，カレブのネゲブを襲い，また火でチクラグを燒きはらいました」．

ダビデは彼に言った，「あなたはその軍隊のところへわたしを導き下ってくれるか」．彼は言った，「あなたはわたしを殺さないこと，またわたしを主人の手に渡さないことを，神をさしてわたしに誓ってください．そうすればあなたをその軍隊のところへ導き下りましょう」．

He led David down, and there they were, scattered over the countryside, eating, drinking and reveling because of the great amount of plunder they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from Judah.

David fought them from dusk until the evening of the next day, and none of them got away, except four hundred young men who rode off on camels and fled.

David recovered everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives.

Nothing was missing: young or old, boy or girl, plunder or anything else they had taken. David brought everything back.

He took all the flocks and herds, and his men drove them ahead of the other livestock, saying, "This is David's plunder."

彼はダビデを導き下ったが，見よ，彼らはペリシテびとの地とユダの地から奪い取ったさまざまの多くのぶんどり物のゆえに，食い飮み，かつ踊りながら，地のおもてにあまねく散りひろがっていた．

ダビデは夕ぐれから翌日の夕方まで，彼らを擊ったので，らくだに乘って逃げた四百人の若者たちのほかには，ひとりものがれた者はなかった．

こうしてダビデはアマレクびとが奪い取ったものをみな取りもどした．またダビデはそのふたりの妻を救い出した．

そして彼らに屬するものは，小さいものも大きいものも，むすこも娘もぶんどり物も，アマレクびとが奪い去った物は何をも失わないで，ダビデがみな取りもどした．

ダビデはまたすべての羊と牛を取った．人¿はこれらの家畜を彼の前に追って行きながら，「これはダビデのぶんどり物だ」と言った．

Then David came to the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to follow him and who were left behind at the Besor Ravine. They came out to meet David and the people with him. As David and his men approached, he greeted them.

But all the evil men and troublemakers among David's followers said, "Because they did not go out with us, we will not share with them the plunder we recovered. However, each man may take his wife and children and go."

David replied, "No, my brothers, you must not do that with what the LORD has given us. He has protected us and handed over to us the forces that came against us.

Who will listen to what you say? The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike."

David made this a statute and ordinance for Israel from that day to this.

そしてダビデが，あの疲れてダビデについて行くことができずに，ベソル川のほとりにとどまっていた二百人の者のところへきた時，彼らは出てきてダビデを迎え，またダビデと共にいる民を迎えた．ダビデは民に近づいてその安否を問うた．

そのときダビデと共に行った人¿のうちで，惡く，かつよこしまな者どもはみな言った，「彼らはわれわれと共に行かなかったのだから，われわれはその人¿にわれわれの取りもどしたぶんどり物を分け與えることはできない．ただおのおのにその妻子を與えて，連れて行かせましょう」．

しかしダビデは言った，「兄弟たちよ，主はわれわれを守って，攻めてきた軍隊をわれわれの手に渡された．その主が賜わったものを，あなたがたはそのようにしてはならない．

だれがこの事について，あなたがたに聞き從いますか．戰いに下って行った者の分け前と，荷物のかたわらにとどまっていた者の分け前を同樣にしなければならない．彼らはひとしく分け前を受けるべきである」．

この日以來，ダビデはこれをイスラエルの定めとし，おきてとして今日に及んでいる．

When David arrived in Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to the elders of Judah, who were his friends, saying, "Here is a present for you from the plunder of the LORD's enemies."

He sent it to those who were in Bethel, Ramoth Negev and Jattir;

to those in Aroer, Siphmoth, Eshtemoa

and Racal; to those in the towns of the Jerahmeelites and the Kenites;

to those in Hormah, Bor Ashan, Athach

ダビデはチクラグにきて，そのぶんどり物の一部をユダの長老である友人たちにおくって言った，「これは主の敵から取ったぶんどり物のうちからあなたがたにおくる贈り物である」．

そのおくり先は，ベテルにいる人¿，ネゲブのラモテにいる人¿，ヤッテルにいる人¿，

アロエルにいる人¿，シフモテにいる人¿，エシテモアにいる人¿，ラカルにいる人¿，

エラメルびとの町¿にいる人¿，ケニびとの町¿にいる人¿，

ホルマにいる人¿，ボラシャンにいる人¿，アタクにいる人¿，

and Hebron; and to those in all the other places where David and his men had roamed.

ヘブロンにいる人¿，およびダビデとその從者たちが，さまよい步いたすべての所にいる人¿であった．

	사울의 죽음(31:1-31:13)

Now the Philistines fought against Israel; the Israelites fled before them, and many fell slain on Mount Gilboa.

The Philistines pressed hard after Saul and his sons, and they killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua.

The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him critically.

Saul said to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me." But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it.

When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died with him.

さてペリシテびとはイスラエルと戰った．イスラエルの人¿はペリシテびとの前から逃げ，多くの者は傷ついてギルボア山にたおれた．

ペリシテびとはサウルとその子らに攻め寄り，そしてペリシテびとはサウルの子ヨナタン，アビナダブ，およびマルキシュアを殺した．

戰いは激しくサウルに迫り，弓を射る者どもがサウルを見つけて，彼を射たので，サウルは射る者たちにひどい傷を負わされた．

そこでサウルはその武器を執る者に言った，「つるぎを拔き，それをもってわたしを刺せ．さもないと，これらの無割禮の者どもがきて，わたしを刺し，わたしをなぶり殺しにするであろう」．しかしその武器を執る者は，ひじょうに恐れて，それに應じなかったので，サウルは，つるぎを執って，その上に伏した．

So Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer and all his men died together that same day.

When the Israelites along the valley and those across the Jordan saw that the Israelite army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their towns and fled. And the Philistines came and occupied them.

The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

They cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and they sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among their people.

They put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.

こうしてサウルとその三人の子たち，およびサウルの武器を執る者，ならびにその從者たちは皆，この日共に死んだ．

イスラエルの人¿で，谷の向こう側，およびヨルダンの向こう側にいる者が，イスラエルの人¿の逃げるのを見，またサウルとその子たちの死んだのを見て町¿を捨てて逃げたので，ペリシテびとはきてその中に住んだ．

あくる日，ペリシテびとは殺された者から，はぎ取るためにきたが，サウルとその三人の子たちがギルボア山にたおれているのを見つけた．

彼らはサウルの首を切り，そのよろいをはぎ取り，ペリシテびとの全地に人をつかわして，この良い知らせを，その偶像と民とに傳えさせた．

When the people of Jabesh Gilead heard of what the Philistines had done to Saul,

all their valiant men journeyed through the night to Beth Shan. They took down the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth Shan and went to Jabesh, where they burned them.

Then they took their bones and buried them under a tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.

ヤベシ · ギレアデの住民たちは，ペリシテびとがサウルにした事を聞いて，

勇士たちはみな立ち，夜もすがら行って，サウルのからだと，その子たちのからだをベテシャンの城壁から取りおろし，ヤベシにきて，これをそこで燒き，

その骨を取って，ヤベシのぎょりゅうの木の下の葬り，七日の間，斷食した．
