- In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea
- and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."
- This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.' "
- John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
- People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan.

- そのころ， 洗禮者 ヨハネ が 現れて， ユダヤ の 荒れ 野で 宣べ 傳え，
- 「悔い 改めよ． 天の 國は 近づいた 」と 言った．
- これは 預言者 イザヤ によってこう 言われている 人である． 「荒れ 野で 叫ぶ 者の 聲がする． 『主の 道を 整え， ／その 道筋をまっすぐにせよ． 』」
- ヨハネ は， らくだの 毛衣を 着， 腰に 革の 帶を 締め， いなごと 野蜜を 食べ 物としていた．
- そこで， エルサレム と ユダヤ 全土から， また， ヨルダン 川沿いの 地方一帶から， 人¿が ヨハネ のもとに 來て，

- Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
- But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
- Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.
- And do not think you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
- The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

- 罪を 告白し， ヨルダン 川で 彼から 洗禮を 受けた．
- ヨハネ は， ファリサイ 派や サドカイ 派の 人¿が 大勢， 洗禮を 受けに 來たのを 見て， こう 言った． 「·の 子らよ， 差し 迫った 神の 怒りを 免れると， だれが 敎えたのか．
- 悔い 改めにふさわしい 實を 結べ．
- 『我¿の 父は アブラハム だ 』などと 思ってもみるな． 言っておくが， 神はこんな 石からでも， アブラハム の 子たちを 造り 出すことがおできになる．
- 斧は 旣に 木の 根元に 置かれている． 良い 實を 結ばない 木はみな， 切り 倒されて 火に 投げ ¿まれる．

- "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
- His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
- Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
- But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"
- Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.

- わたしは， 悔い 改めに 導くために， あなたたちに 水で 洗禮を 授けているが， わたしの 後から 來る 方は， わたしよりも 優れておられる． わたしは， その 履物をお 脫がせする 値打ちもない． その 方は， 聖靈と 火であなたたちに 洗禮をお 授けになる．
- そして， 手に 箕を 持って， 脫穀場を 隅¿まできれいにし， 麥を 集めて 倉に 入れ， 殼を 消えることのない 火で 燒き 拂われる． 」
- そのとき， イエス が， ガリラヤ から ヨルダン 川の ヨハネ のところへ 來られた． 彼から 洗禮を 受けるためである．
- ところが， ヨハネ は， それを 思いとどまらせようとして 言った． 「わたしこそ， あなたから 洗禮を 受けるべきなのに， あなたが， わたしのところへ 來られたのですか． 」
- しかし， イエス はお 答えになった． 「今は， 止めないでほしい． 正しいことをすべて 行うのは， 我¿にふさわしいことです． 」そこで， ヨハネ は イエス の 言われるとおりにした．

- As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.
- And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

- イエス は 洗禮を 受けると， すぐ 水の 中から 上がられた． そのとき， 天が イエス に 向かって 開いた． イエス は， 神の 靈が 鳩のように 御自分の 上に 降って 來るのを 御覽になった．
- そのとき， 「これはわたしの 愛する 子， わたしの 心に 適う 者 」と 言う 聲が， 天から 聞こえた．
