	열왕기상 20:22-21:29 1차 침공에 실패한 벤하닷은 2차 침공을 감행했고, 이스라엘은 전력의 열세에도 불구하고 하나님의 도우심으로 다시 대승을 거두었다. 그러나 아합은 하나님의 뜻을 벗어나 임의대로 벤하닷을 살려 줌으로써 하나님의 선지자로부터 심판을 예고받았다. 탐욕에 사로잡힌 아합이 나봇을 살해하고 그의 포도원을 빼앗자, 엘리야는 그에게 하나님의 심판을 선포하였다.

	벤하닷을 살려 준 아합(20:22-20:43)

그 선지자가 이스라엘 왕에게 나아와 가로되 왕은 가서 힘을 기르고 왕의 행할 일을 알고 준비하소서 해가 돌아오면 아람 왕이 왕을 치러 오리이다 하니라

아람 왕의 신복들이 왕께 고하되 저희의 신은 산의 신이므로 저희가 우리보다 강하였거니와 우리가 만일 평지에서 저희와 싸우면 정녕 저희보다 강할찌라

왕은 이 일을 행하실찌니 곧 왕들을 제하여 각각 그곳에서 떠나게 하고 저희 대신에 장관들을 두시고

또 왕의 잃어버린 군대와 같은 군대를 왕을 위하여 충수하고 말도 말대로, 병거도 병거대로 충수하고 우리가 평지에서 저희와 싸우면 정녕 저희보다 강하리이다 왕이 그 말을 듣고 그리하니라

해가 돌아오매 벤하닷이 아람 사람을 점고하고 아벡으로 올라와서 이스라엘과 싸우려하매

Afterward, the prophet came to the king of Israel and said, "Strengthen your position and see what must be done, because next spring the king of Aram will attack you again."

Meanwhile, the officials of the king of Aram advised him, "Their gods are gods of the hills. That is why they were too strong for us. But if we fight them on the plains, surely we will be stronger than they.

Do this: Remove all the kings from their commands and replace them with other officers.

You must also raise an army like the one you lost--horse for horse and chariot for chariot--so we can fight Israel on the plains. Then surely we will be stronger than they." He agreed with them and acted accordingly.

The next spring Ben-Hadad mustered the Arameans and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.

이스라엘 자손도 점고함을 입고 군량을 받고 마주 나가서 저희 앞에 진을 치니 이스라엘은 염소새끼의 두 적은 떼와 같고 아람 사람은 그 땅에 가득하였더라

때에 하나님의 사람이 이스라엘 왕에게 나아와 고하여 가로되 여호와의 말씀이 아람 사람이 말하기를 여호와는 산의 신이요 골짜기의 신은 아니라 하도다 그러므로 내가 이 큰 군대를 다 네 손에 붙이리니 너희는 내가 여호와인 줄 알리라 하셨나이다 하니라

진이 서로 대한지 칠일이라 제 칠일에 접전하여 이스라엘 자손이 하루에 아람 보병 십만을 죽이매

그 남은 자는 아벡으로 도망하여 성읍으로 들어갔더니 그 성이 그 남은 자 이만 칠천 위에 무너지고 벤하닷은 도망하여 성읍에 이르러 골방으로 들어가니라

그 신복들이 저에게 고하되 우리가 들은즉 이스라엘 집의 왕들은 인자한 왕이라 하니 만일 우리가 굵은 베로 허리를 묶고 테두리를 머리에 이고 이스라엘 왕에게로 나아가면 저가 혹시 왕의 생명을 살리리이다 하고

When the Israelites were also mustered and given provisions, they marched out to meet them. The Israelites camped opposite them like two small flocks of goats, while the Arameans covered the countryside.

The man of God came up and told the king of Israel, "This is what the LORD says: 'Because the Arameans think the LORD is a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know that I am the LORD.' "

For seven days they camped opposite each other, and on the seventh day the battle was joined. The Israelites inflicted a hundred thousand casualties on the Aramean foot soldiers in one day.

The rest of them escaped to the city of Aphek, where the wall collapsed on twenty-seven thousand of them. And Ben-Hadad fled to the city and hid in an inner room.

His officials said to him, "Look, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful. Let us go to the king of Israel with sackcloth around our waists and ropes around our heads. Perhaps he will spare your life."

저희가 굵은 베로 허리를 묶고 테두리를 머리에 이고 이스라엘 왕에게 이르러 가로되 왕의 종 벤하닷이 청하기를 나의 생명을 살려주옵소서 하더이다 아합이 가로되 저가 오히려 살았느냐 저는 나의 형제니라

그 사람들이 징조로 여기고 그 말을 얼른 받아 대답하여 가로되 벤하닷은 왕의 형제니이다 왕이 가로되 너희는 가서 저를 인도하여 오라 벤하닷이 이에 왕에게 나아오니 왕이 저를 병거에 올린지라

벤하닷이 왕께 고하되 내 부친이 당신의 부친에게서 빼앗은 모든 성읍을 내가 돌려 보내리이다 또 나의 부친이 사마리아에서 만든 것 같이 당신도 다메섹에서 당신을 위하여 거리를 만드소서 아합이 가로되 내가 이 약조로 당신을 놓으리라 하고 이에 더불어 약조하고 저를 놓았더라

선지자의 무리중 한 사람이 여호와의 말씀으로 그 동무에게 이르되 너는 나를 치라 하였더니 그 사람이 치기를 싫어하는지라

저가 그 사람에게 이르되 네가 여호와의 말씀을 듣지 아니하였으니 네가 나를 떠나갈 때에 사자가 너를 죽이리라 그 사람이 저의 곁을 떠나가더니 사자가 그를 만나 죽였더라

Wearing sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Israel and said, "Your servant Ben-Hadad says: 'Please let me live.' " The king answered, "Is he still alive? He is my brother."

The men took this as a good sign and were quick to pick up his word. "Yes, your brother Ben-Hadad!" they said. "Go and get him," the king said. When Ben-Hadad came out, Ahab had him come up into his chariot.

"I will return the cities my father took from your father," Ben-Hadad offered. "You may set up your own market areas in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria." Ahab said, "On the basis of a treaty I will set you free." So he made a treaty with him, and let him go.

By the word of the LORD one of the sons of the prophets said to his companion, "Strike me with your weapon," but the man refused.

So the prophet said, "Because you have not obeyed the LORD, as soon as you leave me a lion will kill you." And after the man went away, a lion found him and killed him.

저가 또 다른 사람을 만나 가로되 너는 나를 치라 하매 그 사람이 저를 치되 상하도록 친지라

선지자가 가서 수건으로 그 눈을 가리워 변형하고 길 가에서 왕을 기다리다가

왕이 지나갈 때에 소리질러 왕을 불러 가로되 종이 전장 가운데 나갔더니 한 사람이 돌이켜 어떤 사람을 끌고 내게로 와서 말하기를 이 사람을 지키라 만일 저를 잃어버리면 네 생명으로 저의 생명을 대신하거나 그렇지 아니하면 네가 은 한 달란트를 내어야 하리라 하였거늘

종이 이리 저리 일 볼 동안에 저가 없어졌나이다 이스라엘 왕이 저에게 이르되 네가 스스로 결정하였으니 그대로 당하여야 하리라

저가 급히 그 눈에 가리운 수건을 벗으니 이스라엘 왕이 저는 선지자 중 한 사람인 줄 알아 본지라

The prophet found another man and said, "Strike me, please." So the man struck him and wounded him.

Then the prophet went and stood by the road waiting for the king. He disguised himself with his headband down over his eyes.

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him, "Your servant went into the thick of the battle, and someone came to me with a captive and said, 'Guard this man. If he is missing, it will be your life for his life, or you must pay a talent of silver.'

While your servant was busy here and there, the man disappeared." "That is your sentence," the king of Israel said. "You have pronounced it yourself."

Then the prophet quickly removed the headband from his eyes, and the king of Israel recognized him as one of the prophets.

저가 왕께 고하되 여호와의 말씀이 내가 멸하기로 작정한 사람을 네 손으로 놓았은즉 네 목숨은 저의 목숨을 대신하고 네 백성은 저의 백성을 대신하리라 하셨나이다

이스라엘 왕이 근심하고 답답하여 그 궁으로 돌아가려고 사마리아에 이르니라

He said to the king, "This is what the LORD says: 'You have set free a man I had determined should die. Therefore it is your life for his life, your people for his people.' "

Sullen and angry, the king of Israel went to his palace in Samaria.

	나봇의 포도원(21:1-21:29)

그 후에 이 일이 있으니라 이스르엘 사람 나봇이 이스르엘에 포도원이 있어 사마리아 왕 아합의 궁에서 가깝더니

아합이 나봇에게 일러 가로되 네 포도원이 내 궁 곁에 가까이 있으니 내게 주어 나물 밭을 삼게 하라 내가 그 대신에 그보다 더 아름다운 포도원을 네게 줄 것이요 만일 합의하면 그 값을 돈으로 네게 주리라

나봇이 아합에게 말하되 내 열조의 유업을 왕에게 주기를 여호와께서 금하실찌로다 하니

이스르엘 사람 나봇이 아합에게 대답하여 이르기를 내 조상의 유업을 왕께 줄 수 없다 함을 인하여 아합이 근심하고 답답하여 궁으로 돌아와서 침상에 누워 얼굴을 돌이키고 식사를 아니하니

그 아내 이세벨이 저에게 나아와 가로되 왕의 마음에 무엇을 근심하여 식사를 아니하나이까

Some time later there was an incident involving a vineyard belonging to Naboth the Jezreelite. The vineyard was in Jezreel, close to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

Ahab said to Naboth, "Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden, since it is close to my palace. In exchange I will give you a better vineyard or, if you prefer, I will pay you whatever it is worth."

But Naboth replied, "The LORD forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers."

So Ahab went home, sullen and angry because Naboth the Jezreelite had said, "I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers." He lay on his bed sulking and refused to eat.

His wife Jezebel came in and asked him, "Why are you so sullen? Why won't you eat?"

왕이 이르되 내가 이스르엘 사람 나봇에게 말하여 이르기를 네 포도원을 내게 주되 돈으로 바꾸거나 만일 네가 좋아하면 내가 그 대신에 포도원을 네게 주리라 한즉 저가 대답하기를 내가 내 포도원을 네게 주지 않겠노라 함을 인함이로라

그 아내 이세벨이 저에게 이르되 왕이 이제 이스라엘 나라를 다스리시나이까 일어나 식사를 하시고 마음을 즐겁게 하소서 내가 이스르엘 사람 나봇의 포도원을 왕께 드리리이다 하고

아합의 이름으로 편지들을 쓰고 그 인을 쳐서 그 성에서 나봇과 함께 사는 장로와 귀인들에게 보내니

그 편지 사연에 이르기를 금식을 선포하고 나봇을 백성 가운데 높이 앉힌 후에

비류 두 사람을 그 앞에 마주 앉히고 저에게 대하여 증거하기를 네가 하나님과 왕을 저주하였다 하게 하고 곧 저를 끌고 나가서 돌로 쳐 죽이라 하였더라

He answered her, "Because I said to Naboth the Jezreelite, 'Sell me your vineyard; or if you prefer, I will give you another vineyard in its place.' But he said, 'I will not give you my vineyard.' "

Jezebel his wife said, "Is this how you act as king over Israel? Get up and eat! Cheer up. I'll get you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite."

So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, placed his seal on them, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth's city with him.

In those letters she wrote: "Proclaim a day of fasting and seat Naboth in a prominent place among the people.

But seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them testify that he has cursed both God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death."

그 성 사람 곧 그 성에 사는 장로와 귀인들이 이세벨의 분부 곧 저가 자기들에게 보낸 편지에 쓴대로 하여

금식을 선포하고 나봇을 백성 가운데 높이 앉히매

때에 비류 두 사람이 들어와서 그 앞에 앉고 백성 앞에서 나봇에게 대하여 증거를 지어 이르기를 나봇이 하나님과 왕을 저주하였다 하매 무리가 저를 성 밖으로 끌고 나가서 돌로 쳐 죽이고

이세벨에게 통보하기를 나봇이 돌에 맞아 죽었나이다 하니

이세벨이 나봇이 돌에 맞아 죽었다 함을 듣고 아합에게 이르되 일어나서 그 이스르엘 사람 나봇이 돈으로 바꾸어 주기를 싫어하던 포도원을 취하소서 나봇이 살아 있지 아니하고 죽었나이다

So the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth's city did as Jezebel directed in the letters she had written to them.

They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth in a prominent place among the people.

Then two scoundrels came and sat opposite him and brought charges against Naboth before the people, saying, "Naboth has cursed both God and the king." So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.

Then they sent word to Jezebel: "Naboth has been stoned and is dead."

As soon as Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, "Get up and take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite that he refused to sell you. He is no longer alive, but dead."

아합이 나봇의 죽었다 함을 듣고 곧 일어나 이스르엘 사람 나봇의 포도원을 취하러 그리로 내려갔더라

여호와의 말씀이 디셉 사람 엘리야에게 임하여 가라사대

너는 일어나 내려가서 사마리아에 거하는 이스라엘 왕 아합을 만나라 저가 나봇의 포도원을 취하러 그리로 내려갔나니

너는 저에게 말하여 이르기를 여호와의 말씀이 네가 죽이고 또 빼앗았느냐 하셨다 하고 또 저에게 이르기를 여호와의 말씀이 개들이 나봇의 피를 핥은 곳에서 개들이 네 피 곧 네 몸의 피도 핥으리라 하셨다 하라

아합이 엘리야에게 이르되 나의 대적이여 네가 나를 찾았느냐 대답하되 내가 찾았노라 네가 스스로 팔려 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하였으므로

When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take possession of Naboth's vineyard.

Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite:

"Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth's vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it.

Say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?' Then say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth's blood, dogs will lick up your blood--yes, yours!' "

Ahab said to Elijah, "So you have found me, my enemy!" "I have found you," he answered, "because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD.

여호와의 말씀이 내가 재앙을 네게 내려 너를 쓸어 버리되 네게 속한 남자는 이스라엘 가운데 매인 자나 놓인 자를 다 멸할 것이요

또 네 집으로 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 집처럼 되게 하고 아히야의 아들 바아사의 집처럼 되게 하리니 이는 네가 나의 노를 격동하고 이스라엘로 범죄케 한 까닭이니라 하셨고

이세벨에게 대하여도 여호와께서 말씀하여 가라사대 개들이 이스르엘 성 곁에서 이세벨을 먹을찌라

아합에게 속한 자로서 성읍에서 죽은 자는 개들이 먹고 들에서 죽은 자는 공중의 새가 먹으리라 하셨느니라 하니

예로부터 아합과 같이 스스로 팔려 여호와 보시기에 악을 행한 자가 없음은 저가 그 아내 이세벨에게 충동되었음이라

'I am going to bring disaster on you. I will consume your descendants and cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel--slave or free.

I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat and that of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have provoked me to anger and have caused Israel to sin.'

"And also concerning Jezebel the LORD says: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.'

"Dogs will eat those belonging to Ahab who die in the city, and the birds of the air will feed on those who die in the country."

(There was never a man like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, urged on by Jezebel his wife.

저가 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 쫓아내신 아모리 사람의 모든 행한것 같이 우상에게 복종하여 심히 가증하게 행하였더라

아합이 이 모든 말씀을 들을 때에 그 옷을 찢고 굵은 베로 몸을 동이고 금식하고 굵은 베에 누우며 행보도 천천히 한지라

여호와의 말씀이 디셉 사람 엘리야에게 임하여 가라사대

아합이 내 앞에서 겸비함을 네가 보느냐 저가 내 앞에서 겸비함을 인하여 내가 재앙을 저의 시대에 내리지 아니하고 그 아들의 시대에야 그 집에 재앙을 내리리라 하셨더라

He behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols, like the Amorites the LORD drove out before Israel.)

When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went around meekly.

Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite:

"Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son."
