창세기 43:16-44:34

 요셉의 형제들은 베냐민과 함께 요셉 앞에 다시 서게 되고, 요셉은 그들에게 극진한 대접을 하였다. 요셉은 베냐민의 자루에 은잔을 넣고 형들을 다시 한번 시험했다. 이에 유다는 자신을 담보로 베냐민을 보내 달라는 간곡한 탄원을 했다.
  
  형제들과의 2차 대면(43:16-43:34)    
 
  1. 요셉은, 베냐민이 그들과 함께 온 것을 보고서, 자기 집 관리인에게 말하였다. "이 사람들을 집으로 데리고 가시오. 짐승을 잡고, 밥상도 준비하시오. 이 사람들은 나와 함께 점심을 먹을 것이오."
  2. 요셉이 말한 대로, 관리인이 그 사람들을 요셉의 집으로 안내하였다.
  3. 그 사람들은 요셉의 집으로 안내를 받아 들어가면서, 겁이 났다. 그들은 '지난 번에 여기에 왔을 적에, 우리가 낸 돈이, 알지도 못하는 사이에 우리의 자루 속에 담겨서 되돌아왔는데, 그 돈 때문에 우리가 이리로 끌려온다. 그 일로 그가 우리에게 달려들어서, 우리의 나귀를 빼앗고, 우리를 노예로 삼으려는 것이 틀림없다' 하고 걱정하였다.
  4. 그래서 그들은 요셉의 집 문 앞에 이르렀을 때에, 요셉의 집 관리인에게 가서 물었다.
  5. "우리는 지난번에 여기에서 곡식을 사 간 일이 있습니다.
  1. When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the steward of his house, "Take these men to my house, slaughter an animal and prepare dinner; they are to eat with me at noon."
  2. The man did as Joseph told him and took the men to Joseph's house.
  3. Now the men were frightened when they were taken to his house. They thought, "We were brought here because of the silver that was put back into our sacks the first time. He wants to attack us and overpower us and seize us as slaves and take our donkeys."
  4. So they went up to Joseph's steward and spoke to him at the entrance to the house.
  5. "Please, sir," they said, "we came down here the first time to buy food.
  1. 하룻밤 묵어갈 곳에 이르러서 자루를 풀다가, 우리가 치른 돈이, 액수 그대로, 우리 각자의 자루 아귀 안에 고스란히 들어 있는 것을 보았습니다. 그래서 우리가 그것을 다시 가지고 왔습니다.
  2. 또 우리는 곡식을 살 돈도 따로 더 가지고 왔습니다. 우리는, 누가 그 돈을 우리의 자루 속에 넣었는지 모릅니다."
  3. 그 관리인이 말하였다. "그 동안 별고 없으셨습니까? 걱정하지 마십시오. 댁들을 돌보시는 하나님, 댁들의 조상을 돌보신 그 하나님이 그 자루에 보물을 넣어 주신 것입니다. 나는 댁들이 낸 돈을 받았습니다." 이렇게 말하면서, 관리인은 시므온을 그들에게로 데리고 왔다.
  4. 관리인은 그 사람들을 요셉의 집 안으로 안내하고서, 발 씻을 물도 주고, 그들이 끌고 온 나귀에게도 먹이를 주었다.
  5. 그들은 거기에서 점심을 먹게 된다는 말을 들었으므로, 정오에 올 요셉을 기다리면서, 장만해 온 선물을 정돈하고 있었다.
  1. But at the place where we stopped for the night we opened our sacks and each of us found his silver--the exact weight--in the mouth of his sack. So we have brought it back with us.
  2. We have also brought additional silver with us to buy food. We don't know who put our silver in our sacks."
  3. "It's all right," he said. "Don't be afraid. Your God, the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks; I received your silver." Then he brought Simeon out to them.
  4. The steward took the men into Joseph's house, gave them water to wash their feet and provided fodder for their donkeys.
  5. They prepared their gifts for Joseph's arrival at noon, because they had heard that they were to eat there.
  1. 요셉이 집으로 오니, 그들은 집 안으로 가지고 들어온 선물을 요셉 앞에 내놓고, 땅에 엎드려 절을 하였다.
  2. 요셉은 그들의 안부를 묻고 난 다음에 "전에 그대들이 나에게 말한 그 연세 많으신 아버지도 안녕하시오? 그분이 아직도 살아 계시오?" 하고 물었다.
  3. 그들은 "총리 어른의 종인 소인들의 아버지는 지금도 살아 있고, 평안합니다" 하고 대답하면서, 몸을 굽혀서 절을 하였다.
  4. 요셉이 둘러보다가, 자기의 친어머니의 아들, 친동생 베냐민을 보면서 "이 아이가 지난번에 그대들이 나에게 말한 바로 그 막내 아우요?" 하고 물었다. 그러면서 그는 "귀엽구나! 하나님이 너에게 복 주시기를 빈다" 하고 말하였다.
  5. 요셉은 자기 친동생을 보다가, 마구 치밀어오르는 형제의 정을 누르지 못하여, 급히 울 곳을 찾아 자기의 방으로 들어가서, 한참 동안 울고,
  1. When Joseph came home, they presented to him the gifts they had brought into the house, and they bowed down before him to the ground.
  2. He asked them how they were, and then he said, "How is your aged father you told me about? Is he still living?"
  3. They replied, "Your servant our father is still alive and well." And they bowed low to pay him honor.
  4. As he looked about and saw his brother Benjamin, his own mother's son, he asked, "Is this your youngest brother, the one you told me about?" And he said, "God be gracious to you, my son."
  5. Deeply moved at the sight of his brother, Joseph hurried out and looked for a place to weep. He went into his private room and wept there.
  1. 얼굴을 씻고 도로 나와서, 그 정을 누르면서, 밥상을 차리라고 명령하였다.
  2. 밥상을 차리는 사람들은 요셉에게 상을 따로 차려서 올리고, 그의 형제들에게도 따로 차리고, 요셉의 집에서 먹고 사는 이집트 사람들에게도 따로 차렸다. 이집트 사람들은, 히브리 사람들과 같은 상에서 먹으면 부정을 탄다고 생각하기 때문에, 상을 같이 차리지 않은 것이다.
  3. 요셉의 형제들은 안내를 받아가며, 요셉 앞에 앉았는데, 앉고 보니, 맏아들로부터 막내 아들에 이르기까지 나이 순서를 따라서 앉게 되었다. 그 사람들은 어리둥절하면서 서로 쳐다보았다.
  4. 각 사람이 먹을 것은, 요셉의 상에서 날라다 주었는데, 베냐민에게는 다른 사람보다 다섯 몫이나 더 주었다. 그들은 요셉과 함께 취하도록 마셨다.
  1. After he had washed his face, he came out and, controlling himself, said, "Serve the food."
  2. They served him by himself, the brothers by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, because Egyptians could not eat with Hebrews, for that is detestable to Egyptians.
  3. The men had been seated before him in the order of their ages, from the firstborn to the youngest; and they looked at each other in astonishment.
  4. When portions were served to them from Joseph's table, Benjamin's portion was five times as much as anyone else's. So they feasted and drank freely with him.
 
  요셉의 시험과 유다의 탄원(44:1-44:34)    
 
  1. 요셉이 집 관리인에게 명령하였다. "저 사람들이 가지고 갈 수 있을 만큼 많이, 자루에 곡식을 담으시오. 그들이 가지고 온 돈도 각 사람의 자루 아귀에 넣으시오.
  2. 그리고 어린 아이의 자루에다가는, 곡식 값으로 가지고 온 돈과 내가 쓰는 은잔을 함께 넣으시오." 관리인은 요셉이 명령한 대로 하였다.
  3. 다음날 동이 틀 무렵에, 그들은 나귀를 이끌고 길을 나섰다.
  4. 그들이 아직 그 성읍에서 얼마 가지 않았을 때에, 요셉이 자기 집 관리인에게 말하였다. "빨리 저 사람들의 뒤를 쫓아가시오. 그들을 따라잡거든, 그들에게 '너희는 왜 선을 악으로 갚느냐?
  5. 어찌하려고 은잔을 훔쳐 가느냐? 그것은 우리 주인께서 마실 때에 쓰는 잔이요, 점을 치실 때에 쓰는 잔인 줄 몰랐느냐? 너희가 이런 일을 저지르다니, 매우 고약하구나!' 하고 호통을 치시오."
  1. Now Joseph gave these instructions to the steward of his house: "Fill the men's sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each man's silver in the mouth of his sack.
  2. Then put my cup, the silver one, in the mouth of the youngest one's sack, along with the silver for his grain." And he did as Joseph said.
  3. As morning dawned, the men were sent on their way with their donkeys.
  4. They had not gone far from the city when Joseph said to his steward, "Go after those men at once, and when you catch up with them, say to them, 'Why have you repaid good with evil?
  5. Isn't this the cup my master drinks from and also uses for divination? This is a wicked thing you have done.' "
  1. 관리인이 그들을 따라잡고서, 요셉이 시킨 말을 그들에게 그대로 하면서, 호통을 쳤다.
  2. 그러자 그들이 그에게 말하였다. "어찌하여 그런 말씀을 하십니까? 소인들 가운데는 그런 일을 저지를 사람이 하나도 없습니다.
  3. 지난번 자루 아귀에서 나온 돈을 되돌려 드리려고, 가나안 땅에서 여기까지 가지고 오지 않았습니까? 그런데 어떻게 우리가 그대의 상전 댁에 있는 은이나 금을 훔친다는 말입니까?
  4. 소인들 가운데서 어느 누구에게서라도 그것이 나오면, 그를 죽여도 좋습니다. 그리고 나머지 우리는 주인의 종이 되겠습니다."
  5. 그가 말하였다. "그렇다면 좋소. 당신들이 말한 대로 합시다. 그러나 누구에게서든지 그것이 나오면, 그 사람만이 우리 주인의 종이 되고, 당신들 나머지 사람들에게는 죄가 없소."
  1. When he caught up with them, he repeated these words to them.
  2. But they said to him, "Why does my lord say such things? Far be it from your servants to do anything like that!
  3. We even brought back to you from the land of Canaan the silver we found inside the mouths of our sacks. So why would we steal silver or gold from your master's house?
  4. If any of your servants is found to have it, he will die; and the rest of us will become my lord's slaves."
  5. "Very well, then," he said, "let it be as you say. Whoever is found to have it will become my slave; the rest of you will be free from blame."
  1. 그들은 얼른 각자의 자루를 땅에 내려놓고서 풀었다.
  2. 관리인이 맏아들의 자루부터 시작하여 막내 아들의 자루까지 뒤지니, 그 잔이 베냐민의 자루에서 나왔다.
  3. 이것을 보자, 그들은 슬픔이 북받쳐서 옷을 찢고 울면서, 저마다 나귀에 짐을 다시 싣고, 성으로 되돌아갔다.
  4. 유다와 그의 형제들이 요셉의 집에 이르니, 요셉이 아직 거기에 있었다. 그들이 요셉 앞에 나아가서, 땅에 엎드리자,
  5. 요셉이 호통을 쳤다. "당신들이 어찌하여 이런 일을 저질렀소? 나 같은 사람이 점을 쳐서 물건을 찾는 줄을, 당신들은 몰랐소?"
  1. Each of them quickly lowered his sack to the ground and opened it.
  2. Then the steward proceeded to search, beginning with the oldest and ending with the youngest. And the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.
  3. At this, they tore their clothes. Then they all loaded their donkeys and returned to the city.
  4. Joseph was still in the house when Judah and his brothers came in, and they threw themselves to the ground before him.
  5. Joseph said to them, "What is this you have done? Don't you know that a man like me can find things out by divination?"
  1. 유다가 대답하였다. "우리가 주인 어른께 무슨 할 말이 있겠습니까? 무슨 변명을 할 수 있겠습니까? 어찌 우리의 죄없음을 밝힐 수 있겠습니까? 하나님이 소인들의 죄를 들추어내셨으니, 우리와 이 잔을 가지고 간 아이가 모두 주인 어른의 종이 되겠습니다."
  2. 요셉이 말하였다. "그렇게까지 할 것은 없소. 이 잔을 가지고 있다가 들킨 그 사람만 나의 종이 되고, 나머지는 평안히 당신들의 아버지께로 돌아가시오."
  3. 유다가 그에게 가까이 가서 간청하였다. "이 종이 주인 어른께 감히 한 말씀 드리는 것을 용서하여 주시기 바랍니다. 어른께서는 바로와 꼭 같은 분이시니, 이 종에게 너무 노여워하지 마시기 바랍니다.
  4. 이전에 어른께서는 종들에게, 아버지나 아우가 있느냐고 물으셨습니다.
  5. 그 때에 종들은, 늙은 아버지가 있고, 그가 늘그막에 얻은 아들 하나가 있는데, 그 아이와 한 어머니에게서 난 그의 친형은 죽고, 그 아이만 있기 때문에, 아버지가 그 아이를 무척이나 사랑한다고 말씀드렸습니다.
  1. "What can we say to my lord?" Judah replied. "What can we say? How can we prove our innocence? God has uncovered your servants' guilt. We are now my lord's slaves--we ourselves and the one who was found to have the cup."
  2. But Joseph said, "Far be it from me to do such a thing! Only the man who was found to have the cup will become my slave. The rest of you, go back to your father in peace."
  3. Then Judah went up to him and said: "Please, my lord, let your servant speak a word to my lord. Do not be angry with your servant, though you are equal to Pharaoh himself.
  4. My lord asked his servants, 'Do you have a father or a brother?'
  5. And we answered, 'We have an aged father, and there is a young son born to him in his old age. His brother is dead, and he is the only one of his mother's sons left, and his father loves him.'
  1. 그 때에 어른께서는 종들에게 말씀하시기를, 어른께서 그 아이를 직접 만나보시겠다고, 데리고 오라고 하셨습니다.
  2. 그래서 종들이 어른께, 그 아이는 제 아버지를 떠날 수 없으며, 그 아이가 아버지 곁을 떠나면, 아버지가 돌아가실 것이라고 말씀드렸습니다.
  3. 그러나 어른께서는 이 종들에게, 그 막내 아우를 데리고 오지 않으면 어른의 얼굴을 다시는 못 볼 것이라고 말씀하셨습니다.
  4. 그래서 종들은 어른의 종인 저의 아버지에게 가서, 어른께서 하신 말씀을 다 전하였습니다.
  5. 얼마 뒤에 종들의 아버지가 종들에게, 다시 가서 먹거리를 조금 사오라고 하였습니다만,
  1. "Then you said to your servants, 'Bring him down to me so I can see him for myself.'
  2. And we said to my lord, 'The boy cannot leave his father; if he leaves him, his father will die.'
  3. But you told your servants, 'Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, you will not see my face again.'
  4. When we went back to your servant my father, we told him what my lord had said.
  5. "Then our father said, 'Go back and buy a little more food.'
  1. 종들은, 막내 아우를 우리와 함께 보내시면 가겠지만, 그렇지 않으면 갈 수도 없고 그분 얼굴을 뵐 수도 없다고 말했습니다.
  2. 그러나 어른의 종인 소인의 아버지는 이 종들에게 '너희도 알지 않느냐? 이 아이의 어머니가 낳은 자식이 둘뿐인데,
  3. 한 아이는 나가더니, 돌아오지 않는다. 사나운 짐승에게 변을 당한 것이 틀림없다. 그 뒤로 나는 그 아이를 볼 수 없다.
  4. 그런데 너희가 이 아이마저 나에게서 데리고 갔다가, 이 아이마저 변을 당하기라도 하면, 어찌하겠느냐? 너희는, 백발이 성성한 이 늙은 아버지가, 슬퍼하며 죽어가는 꼴을 보겠다는 거냐?' 하고 걱정하였습니다.
  5. 아버지의 목숨과 이 아이의 목숨이 이렇게 얽혀 있습니다. 소인이 어른의 종, 저의 아버지에게 되돌아갈 때에, 우리가 이 아이를 데리고 가지 못하거나,
  1. But we said, 'We cannot go down. Only if our youngest brother is with us will we go. We cannot see the man's face unless our youngest brother is with us.'
  2. "Your servant my father said to us, 'You know that my wife bore me two sons.
  3. One of them went away from me, and I said, "He has surely been torn to pieces." And I have not seen him since.
  4. If you take this one from me too and harm comes to him, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in misery.'
  5. "So now, if the boy is not with us when I go back to your servant my father and if my father, whose life is closely bound up with the boy's life,
  1. 소인의 아버지가 이 아이가 없는 것을 알면, 소인의 아버지는 곧바로 숨이 넘어가고 말 것입니다. 일이 이렇게 되면, 어른의 종들은 결국, 백발이 성성한 아버지를 슬퍼하며 돌아가시도록 만든 꼴이 되고 맙니다.
  2. 어른의 종인 제가 소인의 아버지에게, 그 아이를 안전하게 다시 데리고 오겠다는 책임을 지고 나섰습니다. 만일 이 아이를 아버지에게 다시 데리고 돌아가지 못하면, 소인이 아버지 앞에서 평생 그 죄를 달게 받겠다고 다짐하고 왔습니다.
  3. 그러니, 저 아이 대신에 소인을 주인 어른의 종으로 삼아 여기에 머물러 있게 해주시고, 저 아이는 그의 형들과 함께 돌려보내 주시기를 바랍니다.
  4. 저 아이 없이, 제가 어떻게 아버지의 얼굴을 뵙겠습니까? 그럴 수는 없습니다. 저의 아버지에게 닥칠 불행을, 제가 차마 볼 수 없습니다."
  1. sees that the boy isn't there, he will die. Your servants will bring the gray head of our father down to the grave in sorrow.
  2. Your servant guaranteed the boy's safety to my father. I said, 'If I do not bring him back to you, I will bear the blame before you, my father, all my life!'
  3. "Now then, please let your servant remain here as my lord's slave in place of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers.
  4. How can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? No! Do not let me see the misery that would come upon my father."
