신명기 17:1-19:14

 모세는 백성들에게 우상 숭배자에 대한 처벌과 재판, 왕으로 세움받은 자의 행실에 관한 규정을 지시해 주었다. 그리고 기업을 분배받지 못하는 레위 지파에게는 하나님께서 친히 기업이 되신다는 것을 밝히고, 이방 종교의 영매나 복술자를 용납하지 말고 하나님께서 보내실 선지자를 청종할 것을 명했다. 또한 과실 치사를 범한 자들이 피할 도피성을 택정하고 토지의 경계표를 옮기지 말 것을 명했다.
  
  재판과 왕에 대한 규례(17:1-17:20)    
 
  1. 당신들은 흠이 있거나 악질이 있는 소나 양을 주 당신들의 하나님께 제물로 바쳐서는 안 됩니다. 그런 것은 주 당신들의 하나님이 역겨워하시는 것입니다.
  2. 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들에게 주시는 성읍 안에서나 당신들 가운데서, 남자이든 여자이든, 주 당신들의 하나님의 눈에 거슬리는 악한 일을 하여, 그의 언약을 깨뜨리고,
  3. 다른 신들을 찾아가서 섬기며, 내가 명하지 않은 해나 달이나 하늘의 모든 천체에 엎드려 절하는 사람이 생길 것입니다.
  4. 이런 일이 당신들에게 보고되어 당신들이 알게 되거든, 당신들은 이것을 잘 조사해 보아야 합니다. 그래서 이스라엘 안에서 이런 역겨운 일을 한 것이 사실로 드러나면,
  5. 당신들은, 남자이든 여자이든, 이런 악한 일을 한 사람을 당신들 성문 바깥으로 끌어내어 돌로 쳐서 죽여야 합니다.
  1. Do not sacrifice to the LORD your God an ox or a sheep that has any defect or flaw in it, for that would be detestable to him.
  2. If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the LORD gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God in violation of his covenant,
  3. and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars of the sky,
  4. and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel,
  5. take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death.
  1. 그런데 사람을 죽일 때에는 한 사람의 증언만으로는 죽일 수 없으며, 두세 사람의 증언이 있어야 합니다.
  2. 죽일 때에는 증인이 맨 먼저 돌로 쳐야 하고, 그 다음에 모든 백성이 뒤따라서 돌로 쳐야 합니다. 그렇게 하여, 이런 악한 일을 당신들 가운데서 뿌리를 뽑아야 합니다.
  3. 당신들이 사는 성 안에서, 피 흘리는 싸움이나, 서로 다투는 일이나, 폭행하는 일로 당신들에게 판결하기 어려운 분쟁이 생기거든, 주 당신들의 하나님이 택하신 곳으로 그 사건을 가지고 올라가서,
  4. 제사장인 레위 사람과 그 때에 직무를 맡고 있는 재판관에게 가서 재판을 요청하면, 그들이 당신들에게 그것에 대한 판결을 내려 줄 것입니다.
  5. 당신들은 주님께서 택하신 곳에서 그들이 당신들에게 내려 준 판결에 복종해야 하고, 당신들에게 일러준 대로 지켜야 합니다.
  1. On the testimony of two or three witnesses a man shall be put to death, but no one shall be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.
  2. The hands of the witnesses must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. You must purge the evil from among you.
  3. If cases come before your courts that are too difficult for you to judge--whether bloodshed, lawsuits or assaults--take them to the place the LORD your God will choose.
  4. Go to the priests, who are Levites, and to the judge who is in office at that time. Inquire of them and they will give you the verdict.
  5. You must act according to the decisions they give you at the place the LORD will choose. Be careful to do everything they direct you to do.
  1. 그들이 당신들에게 내리는 지시와 판결은 그대로 받아들여서 지켜야 합니다. 그들이 당신들에게 내려 준 판결을 어겨서, 좌로나 우로나 벗어나면 안 됩니다.
  2. 주 당신들의 하나님을 섬기는 제사장이나 재판관의 말을 듣지 않고 거역하는 사람이 있으면, 죽여야 합니다. 그렇게 하여서 이스라엘에서 그런 악한 일은 뿌리를 뽑아야 합니다.
  3. 그러면 온 이스라엘 백성이 듣고 두려워하며, 다시는 아무도 재판 결과를 하찮게 여기지 않을 것입니다."
  4. "주 당신들의 하나님이 주시는 그 땅에 들어가서 그 땅을 차지하고 살 때에, 주위의 다른 모든 민족같이 당신들도 왕을 세우고 싶다는 생각이 들거든,
  5. 당신들은 반드시 주 당신들의 하나님이 택하신 사람을 당신들 위에 왕으로 세워야 합니다. 당신들은 겨레 가운데서 한 사람을 왕으로 세우고, 같은 겨레가 아닌 외국 사람을 당신들의 왕으로 세워서는 안 됩니다.
  1. Act according to the law they teach you and the decisions they give you. Do not turn aside from what they tell you, to the right or to the left.
  2. The man who shows contempt for the judge or for the priest who stands ministering there to the LORD your God must be put to death. You must purge the evil from Israel.
  3. All the people will hear and be afraid, and will not be contemptuous again.
  4. When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, "Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,"
  5. be sure to appoint over you the king the LORD your God chooses. He must be from among your own brothers. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not a brother Israelite.
  1. 왕이라 해도 군마를 많이 가지려고 해서는 안 되며, 군마를 많이 얻으려고 그 백성을 이집트로 보내서도 안 됩니다. 이는 주님께서 다시는 당신들이 그 길로 되돌아가지 못한다고 말씀하셨기 때문입니다.
  2. 왕은 또 많은 아내를 둠으로써 그의 마음이 다른 데로 쏠리게 하는 일이 없어야 하며, 자기 것으로 은과 금을 너무 많이 모아서도 안 됩니다.
  3. 왕위에 오른 사람은 레위 사람 제사장 앞에 보관되어 있는 이 율법책을 두루마리에 옮겨 적어,
  4. 평생 자기 옆에 두고 읽으면서, 자기를 택하신 주 하나님 경외하기를 배우며, 이 율법의 모든 말씀과 규례를 성심껏 어김없이 지켜야 합니다.
  5. 마음이 교만해져서 자기 겨레를 업신여기는 일도 없고, 그 계명을 떠나서 좌로나 우로나 치우치지도 않으면, 그와 그의 자손이 오래도록 이스라엘의 왕위에 앉게 될 것입니다."
  1. The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the LORD has told you, "You are not to go back that way again."
  2. He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.
  3. When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the priests, who are Levites.
  4. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees
  5. and not consider himself better than his brothers and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.
 
  레위인과 선지자(18:1-18:22)    
 
  1. "레위 사람 제사장과 모든 레위 지파 사람은 이스라엘 가운데서 몫이나 유산으로 받은 땅이 없으므로, 주님께 불살라 바친 제물과 주님께 바친 예물을 유산으로 받아, 먹고 살 것입니다.
  2. 그들이 그 겨레 가운데서 차지할 유산이 없다는 것은, 주님께서 그들에게 말씀하신 대로, 주님께서 친히 그들의 유산이기 때문입니다.
  3. 백성이 소나 양을 제물로 바칠 때에, 제사장이 그들에게서 받을 몫이 있는데, 앞다리와 턱과 위는 제사장에게 주어야 합니다.
  4. 또 처음 거둔 곡식과 포도주와 기름과 처음 깎은 양털도 제사장에게 주어야 합니다.
  5. 이것은 주 당신들의 하나님이 모든 지파 가운데서 그를 택하여 세우셔서, 그와 그의 자손이 대대로 주님의 이름으로 섬기는 일을 하게 하셨기 때문입니다.
  1. The priests, who are Levites--indeed the whole tribe of Levi--are to have no allotment or inheritance with Israel. They shall live on the offerings made to the LORD by fire, for that is their inheritance.
  2. They shall have no inheritance among their brothers; the LORD is their inheritance, as he promised them.
  3. This is the share due the priests from the people who sacrifice a bull or a sheep: the shoulder, the jowls and the inner parts.
  4. You are to give them the firstfruits of your grain, new wine and oil, and the first wool from the shearing of your sheep,
  5. for the LORD your God has chosen them and their descendants out of all your tribes to stand and minister in the LORD's name always.
  1. 레위 사람은 이스라엘의 온 땅 어느 성읍에 살든지, 그에게 간절한 소원이 있어서 살던 곳을 떠난다 하더라도, 그가 주님께서 택하신 곳에 이르면, 그 곳이 어디든지,
  2. 하나님 앞에 서서 섬기는 다른 모든 레위 사람 형제와 다름없이, 주 하나님의 이름으로 직무를 수행할 수 있습니다.
  3. 그는 조상에게서 물려받은 것을 팔아서 얻는 수입이 있다고 하더라도, 다른 제사장과 같이 몫을 나누어 받아야 합니다."
  4. "당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들에게 주시는 땅에 들어가거든, 그 곳에 사는 민족들이 하는 역겨운 일들을 본받지 마십시오.
  5. 당신들 가운데서 자기 아들이나 딸을 불 가운데로 지나가게 하는 사람과 점쟁이와 복술가와 요술객과 무당과
  1. If a Levite moves from one of your towns anywhere in Israel where he is living, and comes in all earnestness to the place the LORD will choose,
  2. he may minister in the name of the LORD his God like all his fellow Levites who serve there in the presence of the LORD.
  3. He is to share equally in their benefits, even though he has received money from the sale of family possessions.
  4. When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there.
  5. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft,
  1. 주문을 외우는 사람과 귀신을 불러 물어 보는 사람과 박수와 혼백에게 물어 보는 사람이 있어서는 안 됩니다.
  2. 이런 일을 하는 사람은 모두 주님께서 미워하십니다. 주 당신들의 하나님은 이런 역겨운 일 때문에 당신들 앞에서 그들을 몰아내시는 것입니다.
  3. 당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님 앞에서 완전해야 합니다."
  4. "당신들이 쫓아낼 민족들은 점쟁이나 복술가들의 이야기를 듣지만, 주 당신들의 하나님은 당신들에게 그런 것을 용납하지 않으십니다.
  5. 주 당신들의 하나님은 당신들의 동족 가운데서 나와 같은 예언자 한 사람을 일으켜 세워 주실 것이니, 당신들은 그의 말을 들어야 합니다.
  1. or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.
  2. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you.
  3. You must be blameless before the LORD your God.
  4. The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.
  5. The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.
  1. 이것은 당신들이 호렙 산에서 총회를 가진 날에 주 당신들의 하나님께 청한 일입니다. 그 때에 당신들이 말하기를 '주 우리 하나님의 소리를 다시는 듣지 않게 하여 주시며, 무서운 큰 불도 보지 않게 하여 주십시오. 우리가 죽을까 두렵습니다' 하였습니다.
  2. 그 때에 주님께서 내게 말씀하시기를 '그들이 한 말이 옳다.
  3. 나는 그들의 동족 가운데서 너와 같은 예언자 한 사람을 일으켜 세워, 나의 말을 그의 입에 담아 줄 것이다. 그는, 내가 명한 모든 것을 그들에게 다 일러줄 것이다.
  4. 그가 내 이름으로 말할 때에, 내 말을 듣지 않는 사람은, 내가 벌을 줄 것이다.
  5. 또 내가 말하라고 하지 않은 것을, 제 마음대로 내 이름으로 말하거나 다른 신들의 이름으로 말하는 예언자는, 죽임을 당할 것이다' 하셨습니다.
  1. For this is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, "Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die."
  2. The LORD said to me: "What they say is good.
  3. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.
  4. If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account.
  5. But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death."
  1. 그런데 당신들이 마음 속으로, 그것이 주님께서 하신 말씀인지 아닌지를 어떻게 알겠느냐고 말하겠지만,
  2. 예언자가 주님의 이름으로 말한 것이 그대로 이루어지지 않으면, 그 말은 주님께서 하신 말씀이 아닙니다. 그러니 당신들은 제멋대로 말하는 그런 예언자를 두려워하지 마십시오."
  1. You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?"
  2. If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
 
  도피성(19:1-19:14)    
 
  1. "주 당신들의 하나님이, 당신들에게 주시기로 한 그 땅, 거기에 살고 있는 원주민을 주 당신들의 하나님이 멸망시키시고, 당신들이 그들을 쫓아내어, 그 성읍과 집에서 살게 될 때에,
  2. 당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들에게 차지하라고 주신 땅에서 성읍 셋을 따로 구별하여 놓아야 합니다.
  3. 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들에게 주신 땅을 세 영역으로 구분하여 길을 닦아, 모든 살인자가 그 곳으로 피신할 수 있게 하십시오.
  4. 살인자가 구별된 성읍으로 도피하여 살 수 있는 경우는 다음과 같습니다. 일찍이 미워한 일이 없는 이웃을 뜻하지 않게 죽였거나,
  5. 어떤 사람이 이웃과 함께 나무하러 숲 속으로 들어가서 나무를 찍다가 도끼가 자루에서 빠져 나가 친구를 쳐서 그가 죽었을 경우에, 죽인 그 사람이 그 구별된 세 성읍 가운데 한 곳으로 피신하면 살 수가 있습니다.
  1. When the LORD your God has destroyed the nations whose land he is giving you, and when you have driven them out and settled in their towns and houses,
  2. then set aside for yourselves three cities centrally located in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess.
  3. Build roads to them and divide into three parts the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, so that anyone who kills a man may flee there.
  4. This is the rule concerning the man who kills another and flees there to save his life--one who kills his neighbor unintentionally, without malice aforethought.
  5. For instance, a man may go into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and as he swings his ax to fell a tree, the head may fly off and hit his neighbor and kill him. That man may flee to one of these cities and save his life.
  1. 도피성은 평소에 이웃을 미워한 일이 없는 사람이 실수로 이웃을 죽게 하였을 때에 자기의 생명을 구할 수 있는 곳이므로, 그 곳까지의 거리가 너무 멀면 피살자의 친척이 복수심에 불타서 살인자를 따라가서 죽일 터이니, 거리가 너무 멀어서는 안 됩니다.
  2. 내가 세 성읍을 따로 떼어 놓으라고 당신들에게 명령한 이유가 바로 여기에 있습니다.
  3. 주 당신들의 하나님이, 당신들의 조상에게 맹세하신 대로, 당신들 땅의 경계를 넓혀 주시고 당신들의 조상에게 약속한 모든 땅을 당신들에게 주실 때에는,
  4. 또 내가 오늘 당신들에게 명하는 이 모든 명령을 당신들이 성심껏 지키고, 주 당신들의 하나님을 사랑하며, 그가 가르쳐 주신 길을 잘 따라갈 때에는, 이 세 성읍 말고 또 다른 세 성읍을 구별해야 합니다.
  5. 그리하여 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들에게 유산으로 주신 땅에서는, 죄 없는 사람이 살인죄를 지고 죽는 일이 없도록 하여야 합니다. 그러면 살인죄 때문에 당신들이 책임을 지는 일은 없을 것입니다.
  1. Otherwise, the avenger of blood might pursue him in a rage, overtake him if the distance is too great, and kill him even though he is not deserving of death, since he did it to his neighbor without malice aforethought.
  2. This is why I command you to set aside for yourselves three cities.
  3. If the LORD your God enlarges your territory, as he promised on oath to your forefathers, and gives you the whole land he promised them,
  4. because you carefully follow all these laws I command you today--to love the LORD your God and to walk always in his ways--then you are to set aside three more cities.
  5. Do this so that innocent blood will not be shed in your land, which the LORD your God is giving you as your inheritance, and so that you will not be guilty of bloodshed.
  1. 그러나 어떤 사람이 그의 이웃을 미워하여서 해치려고 숨었다가, 일어나 이웃을 덮쳐서 그 생명에 치명상을 입혀 죽게 하고, 이 여러 성읍 가운데 한 곳으로 피신하면,
  2. 그가 살던 성읍의 장로들이 사람을 보내어, 그를 거기에서 붙잡아다가 복수자의 손에 넘겨 주어 죽이게 하여야 합니다.
  3. 당신들은 그런 사람에게 동정을 베풀어서는 안 됩니다. 이스라엘 안에서, 죄 없는 사람이 죽임을 당하는 일이 없어야만, 당신들이 복을 받을 것입니다."
  4. "당신들은, 주 하나님이 당신들에게 유산으로 주어 차지한 땅에서, 이미 조상이 그어 놓은 당신들 이웃의 경계선을 옮기지 마십시오."
  1. But if a man hates his neighbor and lies in wait for him, assaults and kills him, and then flees to one of these cities,
  2. the elders of his town shall send for him, bring him back from the city, and hand him over to the avenger of blood to die.
  3. Show him no pity. You must purge from Israel the guilt of shedding innocent blood, so that it may go well with you.
  4. Do not move your neighbor's boundary stone set up by your predecessors in the inheritance you receive in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess.
