사사기 12:1-14:20

 에브라임 지파가 입다의 승리에 대해 시비하자 입다는 그들을 크게 도륙했다. 그를 이어 입산, 엘론, 압돈이 사사로 세움받았다. 이스라엘이 다시 범죄하자 하나님께서 그들을 블레셋의 손에 붙여 고통당하게 하셨다. 이러한 때에, 잉태하지 못하던 마노아의 아내가 야웨의 사자로부터 아들을 낳으리라는 말을 듣고 삼손을 낳았다. 태어날 때부터 나실인이었던 삼손은 블레셋 여인을 사랑하여 그녀와 결혼하였으나 친구에게 빼앗기고 말았다.
  
  입다와 에브라임의 전쟁(12:1-12:15)    
 
  1. 에브라임 지파 사람이 싸울 준비를 하고 요단 강을 건너 사본으로 와서, 입다에게 말하였다. "너는 왜 암몬 자손을 치러 건너갈 때에 우리를 불러 같이 가지 않았느냐? 우리가 너와 네 집을 같이 불태워 버리겠다."
  2. 그러자 입다가 그들에게 말하였다. "나와 나의 백성이 암몬 자손과 힘겹게 싸울 때에, 내가 너희를 불렀으나, 너희는 나를 그들의 손에서 구하여 주려고 하지 않았다.
  3. 너희가 구하러 오지 않는 것을 보고, 내가 목숨을 걸고 암몬 자손에게 쳐들어가니, 주님께서는 그들을 나의 손에 넘겨 주셨다. 그런데 어찌하여 오늘 너희가 이렇게 올라와서 나를 대항하여 싸우려고 하느냐?"
  4. 입다는 길르앗 사람들을 모두 불러모아, 에브라임 지파 사람들과 싸워 무찔렀다. （에브라임 사람들은 평소에 늘 길르앗 사람들을 보고 "너희 길르앗 사람은 본래 에브라임에서 도망친 자들이요, 에브라임과 므낫세에 속한 자들이다!" 하고 말하였다.）
  5. 길르앗 사람들은 에브라임 사람을 앞질러서 요단 강 나루를 차지하였다. 도망치는 에브라임 사람이 강을 건너가게 해 달라고 하면, 길르앗 사람들은 그에게 에브라임 사람이냐고 물었다. 그가 에브라임 사람이 아니라고 하면,
  1. The men of Ephraim called out their forces, crossed over to Zaphon and said to Jephthah, "Why did you go to fight the Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We're going to burn down your house over your head."
  2. Jephthah answered, "I and my people were engaged in a great struggle with the Ammonites, and although I called, you didn't save me out of their hands.
  3. When I saw that you wouldn't help, I took my life in my hands and crossed over to fight the Ammonites, and the LORD gave me the victory over them. Now why have you come up today to fight me?"
  4. Jephthah then called together the men of Gilead and fought against Ephraim. The Gileadites struck them down because the Ephraimites had said, "You Gileadites are renegades from Ephraim and Manasseh."
  5. The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan leading to Ephraim, and whenever a survivor of Ephraim said, "Let me cross over," the men of Gilead asked him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" If he replied, "No,"

  1. they said, "All right, say 'Shibboleth.' " He said, "Sibboleth," because he could not pronounce the word correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. Forty-two thousand Ephraimites were killed at that time.
  2. Jephthah led Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in a town in Gilead.
  3. After him, Ibzan of Bethlehem led Israel.
  4. He had thirty sons and thirty daughters. He gave his daughters away in marriage to those outside his clan, and for his sons he brought in thirty young women as wives from outside his clan. Ibzan led Israel seven years.
  5. Then Ibzan died, and was buried in Bethlehem.
  1. 그 뒤에 스불론 사람 엘론이 이스라엘의 사사가 되었다. 그는 십 년 동안 사사로 있으면서 이스라엘을 다스렸다.

  1. After him, Elon the Zebulunite led Israel ten years.
  2. Then Elon died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
  3. After him, Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, led Israel.
  4. He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys. He led Israel eight years.
  5. Then Abdon son of Hillel died, and was buried at Pirathon in Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
 
  삼손의 출생(13:1-13:25)    
 
  1. 이스라엘 자손이 다시, 주님께서 보시는 앞에서 악한 일을 저질렀다. 그래서 주님께서는 그들을 사십 년 동안 블레셋 사람들의 손에 넘겨 주셨다.
  2. 그 때에 소라 땅에 단 지파의 가족 가운데 마노아라는 사람이 있었는데, 그의 아내는 임신할 수 없어서 자식을 낳지 못하였다.
  3. 주님의 천사가 그 여인에게 나타나 말하였다. "보아라, 네가 지금까지는 임신할 수 없어서 아이를 낳지 못하였으나, 이제는 임신하여 아들을 낳게 될 것이다.
  4. 그러므로 이제부터 조심하여, 포도주나 독한 술을 마시지 말아라. 부정한 것은 어떤 것도 먹어서는 안 된다.
  5. 네가 임신하여 아들을 낳을 것인데, 그 아이의 머리에 면도칼을 대어서는 안 된다. 그 아이는 모태에서부터 이미 하나님께 바쳐진 나실 사람이기 때문이다. 바로 그가 블레셋 사람의 손에서 이스라엘을 구하는 일을 시작할 것이다."
  1. Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD, so the LORD delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.
  2. A certain man of Zorah, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was sterile and remained childless.
  3. The angel of the LORD appeared to her and said, "You are sterile and childless, but you are going to conceive and have a son.
  4. Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean,
  5. because you will conceive and give birth to a son. No razor may be used on his head, because the boy is to be a Nazirite, set apart to God from birth, and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hands of the Philistines."
  1. 여인은 곧바로 남편에게 가서 말하였다. "하나님의 사람이 나에게 오셨는데, 그분의 모습이 하나님의 천사의 모습과 같아서, 너무나 두려웠습니다. 그래서 나는 그분이 어디서 오셨는지 감히 묻지도 못하였고, 또 그분도 나에게 자기 이름을 일러주지 않았습니다.
  2. 그런데 그분이 내게 말하기를, 내가 임신하여 아들을 낳을 것이니, 이제부터 포도주와 독한 술을 마시지 말고, 부정한 것은 어떤 것도 먹어서는 안 된다고 말했습니다. 그 아이는 모태에서부터 죽는 날까지 하나님께 바쳐진 나실 사람으로 살아야 하기 때문이라고 했습니다."
  3. 이 말을 듣고 마노아가 주님께 기도드렸다. "주님, 우리에게 보내셨던 하나님의 사람을 우리에게 다시 오게 하셔서, 태어날 아이에게 어떻게 하여야 할지를 우리에게 가르치게 하여 주십시오."
  4. 주님께서 마노아의 기도를 들어주셔서, 주님의 천사가 다시 여인에게 왔다. 그 때에 그 여인은 밭에 앉아 있었는데, 남편 마노아는 아내와 함께 있지 않았다.
  5. 그래서 그 여인은 급히 달려가 남편에게 말하였다. "와 보세요. 저번에 나에게 오셨던 그분이 지금 나타나셨어요."
  1. Then the woman went to her husband and told him, "A man of God came to me. He looked like an angel of God, very awesome. I didn't ask him where he came from, and he didn't tell me his name.
  2. But he said to me, 'You will conceive and give birth to a son. Now then, drink no wine or other fermented drink and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a Nazirite of God from birth until the day of his death.' "
  3. Then Manoah prayed to the LORD : "O LORD, I beg you, let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born."
  4. God heard Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman while she was out in the field; but her husband Manoah was not with her.
  5. The woman hurried to tell her husband, "He's here! The man who appeared to me the other day!"
  1. 마노아는 일어나 곧 아내를 따라가서, 그 사람에게 이르렀다. 마노아가 그를 보고서, 저번에 자기의 처에게 말하던 그분이냐고 물었다. 그가 그렇다고 대답하자,
  2. 마노아는 그에게, 지난번에 한 그 말이 이루어질 때에 그 아이가 지켜야 할 규칙은 무엇이며, 또 그 아이가 할 일은 무엇이냐고 물었다.
  3. 주님의 천사가 마노아에게 일러주었다. 주님의 천사가 마노아의 아내에게 일러준 모든 것을 그 아이가 지켜야 하고,
  4. 마노아의 아내는 포도나무에서 나는 것은 어떤 것도 먹어서는 안 되고, 포도주와 독한 술을 마시지 않아야 하며, 부정한 것은 어떤 것도 먹어서는 안 되고, 주님의 천사가 마노아의 아내에게 명령한 모든 것을 마노아의 아내가 지켜야 한다고 말해 주었다.
  5. 그러자 마노아가 주님의 천사에게, 새끼 염소를 한 마리 잡아 대접할 터이니, 잠시 기다려 달라고 하였다.
  1. Manoah got up and followed his wife. When he came to the man, he said, "Are you the one who talked to my wife?" "I am," he said.
  2. So Manoah asked him, "When your words are fulfilled, what is to be the rule for the boy's life and work?"
  3. The angel of the LORD answered, "Your wife must do all that I have told her.
  4. She must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, nor drink any wine or other fermented drink nor eat anything unclean. She must do everything I have commanded her."
  5. Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "We would like you to stay until we prepare a young goat for you."
  1. 그러나 주님의 천사는 마노아에게, 기다리라면 기다릴 수는 있으나 음식은 먹지 않겠다고 하면서, 마노아가 번제를 준비한다면, 그것은 마땅히 주님께 드려야 할 것이라고 말하였다. 마노아는 그가 주님의 천사라는 것을 전혀 알지 못하였다.
  2. 그래서 마노아가 또 주님의 천사에게, 이름만이라도 알려 주면, 말한 바가 이루어질 때에 그에게 그 영광을 돌리고 싶다고 하였다.
  3. 그러나 주님의 천사는 어찌하여 그렇게 자기의 이름을 묻느냐고 나무라면서 자기의 이름은 비밀이라고 하였다.
  4. 마노아는 새끼 염소 한 마리와 곡식예물을 가져다가, 바위 위에서 주님께 드렸다. 주님께서는 마노아와 그의 아내가 보고 있는 데서 신기한 일을 일으키셨다.
  5. 제단에서 불길이 하늘로 치솟자, 주님의 천사가 제단의 불길을 타고 하늘로 올라갔다. 마노아와 그의 아내는 이것을 보고, 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드렸다.
  1. The angel of the LORD replied, "Even though you detain me, I will not eat any of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the LORD." (Manoah did not realize that it was the angel of the LORD.)
  2. Then Manoah inquired of the angel of the LORD, "What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes true?"
  3. He replied, "Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding. "
  4. Then Manoah took a young goat, together with the grain offering, and sacrificed it on a rock to the LORD. And the LORD did an amazing thing while Manoah and his wife watched:
  5. As the flame blazed up from the altar toward heaven, the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame. Seeing this, Manoah and his wife fell with their faces to the ground.
  1. 주님의 천사가 마노아와 그의 아내에게 다시 나타나지 않자, 그제야 마노아는 비로소 그가 주님의 천사인 줄 알았다.
  2. 마노아는 아내에게 말하였다. "우리가 하나님을 보았으니, 우리는 틀림없이 죽을 것이오."
  3. 그러자 그의 아내가 그에게 말하였다. "만일 주님께서 우리를 죽이려 하셨다면 우리의 손에서 번제물과 곡식예물을 받지 않으셨을 것이며, 또 우리에게 이런 모든 일을 보이거나 이런 말씀을 하시지도 않으셨을 겁니다."
  4. 그 여인이 아들을 낳고서, 이름을 삼손이라고 하였다. 그 아이는 주님께서 내리시는 복을 받으면서 잘 자랐다.
  5. 그가 소라와 에스다올 사이에 있는 마하네단에 있을 때에, 주님의 영이 처음으로 그에게 내렸다.
  1. When the angel of the LORD did not show himself again to Manoah and his wife, Manoah realized that it was the angel of the LORD.
  2. "We are doomed to die!" he said to his wife. "We have seen God!"
  3. But his wife answered, "If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and grain offering from our hands, nor shown us all these things or now told us this."
  4. The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the LORD blessed him,
  5. and the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him while he was in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
 
  블레셋 여인과의 결혼(14:1-14:20)    
 
  1. 삼손이 딤나로 내려갔다가, 딤나에 있는 어떤 블레셋 처녀를 보았다.
  2. 그가 돌아와서 자기 부모에게 말하였다. "내가 딤나에 내려갔다가, 블레셋 처녀를 하나 보았습니다. 장가들고 싶습니다. 주선해 주십시오."
  3. 그러자 그의 아버지와 어머니가 그를 타일렀다. "네 친척이나 네 백성의 딸들 가운데는 여자가 없느냐? 왜 너는 할례도 받지 않는 블레셋 사람을 아내로 맞으려고 하느냐?" 그래도 삼손은 자기 아버지에게 말하였다. "꼭 그 여자를 색시로 데려와 주십시오. 그 여자는 첫눈에 내 맘에 쏙 들었습니다."
  4. 그의 부모는, 주님께서 블레셋 사람을 치실 계기를 삼으려고 이 일을 하시는 줄을 알지 못하였다. 그 때에 블레셋 사람이 이스라엘을 지배하고 있었다.
  5. 삼손이 부모와 함께 딤나로 내려가서, 딤나에 있는 어떤 포도원에 이르렀다. 그런데 갑자기 어린 사자 한 마리가 으르렁거리며 그에게 달려들었다.
  1. Samson went down to Timnah and saw there a young Philistine woman.
  2. When he returned, he said to his father and mother, "I have seen a Philistine woman in Timnah; now get her for me as my wife."
  3. His father and mother replied, "Isn't there an acceptable woman among your relatives or among all our people? Must you go to the uncircumcised Philistines to get a wife?" But Samson said to his father, "Get her for me. She's the right one for me."
  4. (His parents did not know that this was from the LORD, who was seeking an occasion to confront the Philistines; for at that time they were ruling over Israel.)
  5. Samson went down to Timnah together with his father and mother. As they approached the vineyards of Timnah, suddenly a young lion came roaring toward him.
  1. 그 때에 주님의 영이 삼손에게 세차게 내리덮쳤으므로 손에 아무것도 가진 것 없이, 그 사자를 염소 새끼 찢듯이 찢어 죽였다. 그러나 그는 이 일을 부모에게 말하지 않았다.
  2. 그는 그 여자에게로 내려가, 그와 이야기를 나누었다. 삼손은 그 여자를 무척 좋아하였다.
  3. 얼마 뒤에 삼손은 그 여자를 아내로 맞으러 그 곳으로 다시 가다가, 길을 벗어나 자기가 죽인 사자가 있는 데로 가 보았더니, 그 죽은 사자의 주검에 벌 떼가 있고 꿀이 고여 있었다.
  4. 그는 손으로 꿀을 좀 떠다가 걸어가면서 먹고, 부모에게도 가져다 주었으나, 그 꿀이 사자의 주검에서 떠온 것이라고는 말하지 않았다.
  5. 그의 아버지는 사돈 될 사람의 집으로 갔다. 삼손은, 신랑들이 장가갈 때 하는 풍습을 따라서, 거기에서 잔치를 베풀었다.
  1. The Spirit of the LORD came upon him in power so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat. But he told neither his father nor his mother what he had done.
  2. Then he went down and talked with the woman, and he liked her.
  3. Some time later, when he went back to marry her, he turned aside to look at the lion's carcass. In it was a swarm of bees and some honey,
  4. which he scooped out with his hands and ate as he went along. When he rejoined his parents, he gave them some, and they too ate it. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey from the lion's carcass.
  5. Now his father went down to see the woman. And Samson made a feast there, as was customary for bridegrooms.
  1. 블레셋 사람들이 그를 보자, 젊은이 서른 명을 데려다가 그와 한 자리에 앉게 하였다.
  2. 그 때에 삼손이 그들에게 한 제안을 하였다. "내가 여러분에게 수수께끼를 하나 내려고 하는데, 잔치가 계속되는 이레 동안에 알아맞히어 보십시오. 여러분이 알아맞히면 내가 모시옷 서른 벌과 겉옷 서른 벌을 내놓고,
  3. 맞히지 못하면 여러분이 나에게 모시옷 서른 벌과 겉옷 서른 벌을 주도록 하는 것이 어떻겠습니까?" 그들이 말하였다. "좋습니다! 어디, 그 수수께끼를 한번 들어봅시다."
  4. 그래서 삼손이 그들에게 수수께끼를 내놓았다. "먹는 자에게서 먹는 것이 나오고, 강한 자에게서 단 것이 나왔다." 그러나 그들은 사흘이 지나도록 수수께끼를 풀 수가 없었다.
  5. 이레째가 되던 날 그들은 삼손의 아내를 을러대었다. "신랑을 꾀어서, 그가 우리에게 낸 그 수수께끼의 해답을 알아내서 우리에게 알려주시오. 그렇지 않으면 새댁과 새댁의 친정 집을 불살라 버리겠소. 우리가 가진 것을 빼앗으려고 우리를 초대한 것은 아니지 않소?"
  1. When he appeared, he was given thirty companions.
  2. "Let me tell you a riddle," Samson said to them. "If you can give me the answer within the seven days of the feast, I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.
  3. If you can't tell me the answer, you must give me thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes." "Tell us your riddle," they said. "Let's hear it."
  4. He replied, "Out of the eater, something to eat; out of the strong, something sweet." For three days they could not give the answer.
  5. On the fourth day, they said to Samson's wife, "Coax your husband into explaining the riddle for us, or we will burn you and your father's household to death. Did you invite us here to rob us?"
  1. 그래서 삼손의 아내는 삼손에게 울며 말하였다. "당신은 나를 미워할 뿐이지, 사랑하지는 않아요. 그러니까 당신이 나의 나라 사람들에게 수수께끼를 내놓고도, 나에게는 해답을 가르쳐 주지 않았지요." 삼손이 아내에게 말하였다. "이것 봐요. 내 부모에게도 알려드리지 않았는데, 어떻게 당신에게 말할 수 있겠소?"
  2. 그러나 그의 아내는 삼손에게 이레나 계속되는 잔치 기간에 계속 울면서 졸라댔다. 이레째 되던 날 삼손은 드디어 아내에게 수수께끼의 해답을 말해 버리고 말았다. 그러자 아내가 그 해답을 자기 동족 사람들에게 알려 주었다.
  3. 이레째 되던 날 해가 지기 전에 그 성읍 사람들이 삼손에게 말하였다. "무엇이 꿀보다 더 달겠으며, 무엇이 사자보다 더 강하겠느냐?" 삼손이 그들에게 대답하였다. "나의 암소로 밭을 갈지 않았더라면, 이 수수께끼의 해답을 어찌 찾았으랴."
  4. 그 때에 주님의 영이 삼손에게 세차게 내리덮쳤다. 삼손이 아스글론으로 내려가서 그 곳 주민 서른 명을 죽이고, 그들에게서 노략한 옷을 가져다가, 수수께끼를 푼 사람들에게 주었다. 그리고는 몹시 화가 나서, 자기 아버지의 집으로 돌아가 버렸다.
  5. 그러자 삼손의 아내는 삼손의 들러리로 왔던 한 친구의 아내가 되었다.
  1. Then Samson's wife threw herself on him, sobbing, "You hate me! You don't really love me. You've given my people a riddle, but you haven't told me the answer." "I haven't even explained it to my father or mother," he replied, "so why should I explain it to you?"
  2. She cried the whole seven days of the feast. So on the seventh day he finally told her, because she continued to press him. She in turn explained the riddle to her people.
  3. Before sunset on the seventh day the men of the town said to him, "What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?" Samson said to them, "If you had not plowed with my heifer, you would not have solved my riddle."
  4. Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon him in power. He went down to Ashkelon, struck down thirty of their men, stripped them of their belongings and gave their clothes to those who had explained the riddle. Burning with anger, he went up to his father's house.
  5. And Samson's wife was given to the friend who had attended him at his wedding.
