사무엘상 18:1-19:24

 요나단은 다윗과 두터운 우정을 맺었으나 사울은 다윗을 두려워하여 그를 제거하려 하였다. 사울은 딸 미갈을 다윗과 결혼시켜 그를 죽이려고 시도했다. 그러나 다윗은 요나단과 미갈의 도움으로 위험에서 벗어났다. 다윗이 사무엘에게 피하자 사울은 사람을 보내 그를 잡으려 하였으나, 하나님께서 다윗을 보호하셨다.
  
  사울의 질투(18:1-18:30)    
 
  1. 다윗이 사울과 이야기를 끝냈다. 그 뒤에 요나단은 다윗에게 마음이 끌려, 마치 제 목숨을 아끼듯 다윗을 아끼는 마음이 생겼다.
  2. 사울은 그 날로 다윗을 자기와 함께 머무르게 하고, 다시 아버지의 집으로 돌아가지 못하게 하였다.
  3. 요나단은 제 목숨을 아끼듯이 다윗을 아끼어, 그와 가까운 친구로 지내기로 굳게 언약을 맺고,
  4. 자기가 입고 있던 겉옷을 벗어서 다윗에게 주고, 칼과 활과 허리띠까지 모두 다윗에게 주었다.
  5. 다윗은, 사울이 어떤 임무를 주어서 보내든지, 맡은 일을 잘 해냈다. 그래서 사울은 다윗을 장군으로 임명하였다. 온 백성은 물론 사울의 신하들까지도 그 일을 마땅하게 여겼다.
  1. After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself.
  2. From that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return to his father's house.
  3. And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.
  4. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt.
  5. Whatever Saul sent him to do, David did it so successfully that Saul gave him a high rank in the army. This pleased all the people, and Saul's officers as well.
  1. 다윗이 블레셋 사람을 쳐죽이고 군인들과 함께 돌아올 때에, 이스라엘의 모든 성읍에서 여인들이 소구와 꽹과리를 들고 나와서, 노래하고 춤추고 환호성을 지르면서 사울 왕을 환영하였다.
  2. 이 때에 여인들이 춤을 추면서 노래를 불렀다. "사울은 수천 명을 죽이고, 다윗은 수만 명을 죽였다."
  3. 이 말에 사울은 몹시 언짢았다. 생각할수록 화가 치밀어올랐다. "사람들이 다윗에게는 수만 명을 돌리고, 나에게는 수천 명만을 돌렸으니, 이제 그에게 더 돌아갈 것은 이 왕의 자리밖에 없겠군!" 하고 투덜거렸다.
  4. 그 날부터 사울은 다윗을 시기하고 의심하기 시작하였다.
  5. 바로 그 다음날, 하나님이 보내신 악한 영이 사울에게 내리덮치자, 사울은 궁궐에서 미친 듯이 헛소리를 질렀다. 다윗은 여느날과 같이 수금을 탔다. 그 때에 사울은 창을 가지고 있었는데,
  1. When the men were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs and with tambourines and lutes.
  2. As they danced, they sang: "Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands."
  3. Saul was very angry; this refrain galled him. "They have credited David with tens of thousands," he thought, "but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?"
  4. And from that time on Saul kept a jealous eye on David.
  5. The next day an evil spirit from God came forcefully upon Saul. He was prophesying in his house, while David was playing the harp, as he usually did. Saul had a spear in his hand
  1. 그가 갑자기 다윗을 벽에 박아 버리겠다고 하면서, 다윗에게 창을 던졌다. 다윗은 사울 앞에서 두 번이나 몸을 피하였다.
  2. 주님께서 자기를 떠나 다윗과 함께 계시는 것을 안 사울은, 다윗이 두려워졌다.
  3. 그리하여 사울은 다윗을 천부장으로 임명하여 자기 곁에서 떠나게 하였다. 다윗은 부대를 이끌고 출전하였다.
  4. 주님께서 그와 함께 계셨기 때문에, 어디를 가든지 그는 항상 이겼다.
  5. 다윗이 이렇게 큰 승리를 거두니, 사울은 그것을 보고, 다윗을 매우 두려워하였다.
  1. and he hurled it, saying to himself, "I'll pin David to the wall." But David eluded him twice.
  2. Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with David but had left Saul.
  3. So he sent David away from him and gave him command over a thousand men, and David led the troops in their campaigns.
  4. In everything he did he had great success, because the LORD was with him.
  5. When Saul saw how successful he was, he was afraid of him.
  1. 그러나 온 이스라엘과 유다는 다윗이 늘 앞장 서서 싸움터에 나가는 것을 보고, 모두 그를 좋아하였다.
  2. 사울은 （자기의 손으로 다윗을 직접 죽이지 않고, 블레셋 사람의 손에 죽게 하려고 마음먹고,） 다윗에게 말하였다. "내가 데리고 있는 나의 맏딸 메랍을 너의 아내로 줄 터이니, 너는 먼저, 주님께서 앞장 서서 싸우시는 '주님의 싸움'을 싸워서, 네가 정말 용사인 것을 나에게 보여라."
  3. 다윗이 사울에게 말하였다. "제가 누구이며, 제 혈통이나 제 아버지 집안이 이스라엘에서 무엇이기에, 제가 감히 임금님의 사위가 될 수 있겠습니까?" 하고 사양하였다.
  4. 그런데 사울은 딸 메랍을 다윗에게 주기로 하고서도, 정작 때가 되자 사울은 그의 딸을 므홀랏 사람 아드리엘과 결혼시키고 말았다.
  5. 사울의 딸 미갈이 다윗을 사랑하였다. 누군가가 이것을 사울에게 알리니, 사울은 잘 된 일이라고 여기고,
  1. But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he led them in their campaigns.
  2. Saul said to David, "Here is my older daughter Merab. I will give her to you in marriage; only serve me bravely and fight the battles of the LORD." For Saul said to himself, "I will not raise a hand against him. Let the Philistines do that!"
  3. But David said to Saul, "Who am I, and what is my family or my father's clan in Israel, that I should become the king's son-in-law?"
  4. So when the time came for Merab, Saul's daughter, to be given to David, she was given in marriage to Adriel of Meholah.
  5. Now Saul's daughter Michal was in love with David, and when they told Saul about it, he was pleased.
  1. 그 딸을 다윗에게 주어서, 그 딸이 다윗에게 올무가 되게 하여, 그를 블레셋 사람의 손에 죽게 해야 하겠다고 혼자 생각하였다. 그래서 사울은 다윗에게, 다시 그를 사위로 삼겠다고 말하였다.
  2. 사울이 신하들에게 지시하였다. "당신들은 다윗에게 내가 다윗을 좋아한다고 말하시오. 그리고 당신들도 모두 다윗을 좋아한다고 말하시오. 이처럼 우리 모두가 다윗을 좋아하니, 임금의 사위가 되라고 슬쩍 말하시오."
  3. 사울의 신하들이 부탁받은 대로 그런 말을 다윗의 귀에 들어가게 하니, 다윗은 "나는 가난하고 천한 사람인데, 어떻게 내가 임금님의 사위가 될 수 있겠습니까? 그것이 그렇게 쉬운 일로 보입니까?" 하고 말하였다.
  4. 사울의 신하들은 다윗이 한 말을 사울에게 전하였다.
  5. 이 말을 들은 사울은 "당신들은 다윗에게 내가 결혼 선물로 아무것도 바라지 않으며, 다만 나의 원수 블레셋 남자의 포피 백 개를 가져와서 나의 원수를 갚아 주는 것만을 바라더라고 하시오" 하고 시켰다. （사울은 이렇게 하여, 다윗을 블레셋 사람의 손에 죽게 할 셈이었다.）
  1. "I will give her to him," he thought, "so that she may be a snare to him and so that the hand of the Philistines may be against him." So Saul said to David, "Now you have a second opportunity to become my son-in-law."
  2. Then Saul ordered his attendants: "Speak to David privately and say, 'Look, the king is pleased with you, and his attendants all like you; now become his son-in-law.' "
  3. They repeated these words to David. But David said, "Do you think it is a small matter to become the king's son-in-law? I'm only a poor man and little known."
  4. When Saul's servants told him what David had said,
  5. Saul replied, "Say to David, 'The king wants no other price for the bride than a hundred Philistine foreskins, to take revenge on his enemies.' " Saul's plan was to have David fall by the hands of the Philistines.
  1. 사울의 신하들이 이 말을 그대로 다윗에게 전하였다. 다윗은 왕의 사위가 되는 것도 좋겠다고 생각하였다. 그래서 결혼 날짜를 잡기도 전에,
  2. 왕의 사위가 되려고, 자기 부하들을 거느리고 출전하여, 블레셋 남자 이백 명을 쳐죽이고 그들의 포피를 가져다가, 요구한 수대로 왕에게 바쳤다. 사울은 자기의 딸 미갈을 그에게 아내로 주었다.
  3. 사울은 주님께서 다윗과 함께 계시다는 것을 알았고, 자기 딸 미갈마저도 다윗을 사랑하는 것을 보고서,
  4. 다윗을 더욱더 두려워하게 되어, 마침내 다윗과 평생 원수가 되었다.
  5. 그 무렵에 블레셋 지휘관들이 군대를 이끌고 침입해 와서 싸움을 걸곤 하였는데, 그 때마다 다윗이 사울의 장군들보다 더 큰 전과를 올렸기 때문에, 다윗은 아주 큰 명성을 얻었다.
  1. When the attendants told David these things, he was pleased to become the king's son-in-law. So before the allotted time elapsed,
  2. David and his men went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented the full number to the king so that he might become the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage.
  3. When Saul realized that the LORD was with David and that his daughter Michal loved David,
  4. Saul became still more afraid of him, and he remained his enemy the rest of his days.
  5. The Philistine commanders continued to go out to battle, and as often as they did, David met with more success than the rest of Saul's officers, and his name became well known.
 
  사울의 다윗 살해 시도(19:1-19:24)    
 
  1. 사울은, 자기의 아들 요나단과 자기의 모든 신하들이 듣는 데서, 다윗을 죽이겠다고 말하였다. 사울의 아들 요나단은 다윗을 매우 좋아하고 있었으므로,
  2. 다윗에게 이것을 귀띔하여 주었다. "나의 아버지 사울이 자네를 죽이려 하니, 나의 말을 듣게. 자네는 내일 아침 일찍 몸을 피하여 외진 곳으로 가서 숨어 있게.
  3. 자네가 숨어 있는 들로 아버지를 모시고 나가서, 내가 아버지 곁에 붙어 다니다가, 기회를 보아 자네 일을 아버지께 여쭈어 보고, 거기에서 있었던 일을 내가 곧 자네에게 알려 주겠네."
  4. 요나단은 아버지 사울 앞에서 다윗의 좋은 점들을 이야기하였다. 그는 사울에게 말하였다. "아버지께서는 아버지의 신하 다윗을 해치려고 하십니다만, 이런 죄를 지으시면 안 됩니다. 다윗은 아버지께 죄를 지은 일이 없습니다. 오히려 다윗은 아버지를 도와서, 아주 좋은 일들만 했습니다.
  5. 그는 자기 목숨을 아끼지 않고 블레셋 장군을 쳐죽였고, 그래서 주님께서 온 이스라엘에게 이렇게 큰 승리를 안겨 주셨습니다. 아버지께서도 그것을 직접 보고 기뻐하셨습니다. 그런데 지금 무엇 때문에 이유도 없이 다윗을 죽여, 죄없는 피를 흘려 죄를 지으려고 하십니까?"
  1. Saul told his son Jonathan and all the attendants to kill David. But Jonathan was very fond of David
  2. and warned him, "My father Saul is looking for a chance to kill you. Be on your guard tomorrow morning; go into hiding and stay there.
  3. I will go out and stand with my father in the field where you are. I'll speak to him about you and will tell you what I find out."
  4. Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, "Let not the king do wrong to his servant David; he has not wronged you, and what he has done has benefited you greatly.
  5. He took his life in his hands when he killed the Philistine. The LORD won a great victory for all Israel, and you saw it and were glad. Why then would you do wrong to an innocent man like David by killing him for no reason?"
  1. 사울이 요나단의 말을 듣고 맹세하였다. "그래, 주님께서 확실히 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하마. 내가 결코 다윗을 죽이지 않겠다."
  2. 요나단이 다윗을 불러다가, 이 모든 일을 알려 주고 나서, 다윗을 사울에게 데리고 가서, 전처럼 왕을 모시게 하였다.
  3. 또 전쟁이 일어나니, 다윗은 출전하여 블레셋 사람들과 싸웠다. 다윗이 그들을 쳐서 크게 무찌르니, 블레셋 사람들이 다윗 앞에서 도망쳤다.
  4. 그런데 사울이 창을 들고 궁중에 앉아 있을 때에, 주님께서 보내신 악한 영이 또 사울을 강하게 사로잡았다. 다윗이 수금을 타고 있는데,
  5. 사울이 창으로 다윗을 벽에 박으려고 하였다. 다윗이 사울 앞에서 피하였으므로, 창만 벽에 박혔다. 다윗은 도망하여 목숨을 건졌다. 바로 그 날 밤에,
  1. Saul listened to Jonathan and took this oath: "As surely as the LORD lives, David will not be put to death."
  2. So Jonathan called David and told him the whole conversation. He brought him to Saul, and David was with Saul as before.
  3. Once more war broke out, and David went out and fought the Philistines. He struck them with such force that they fled before him.
  4. But an evil spirit from the LORD came upon Saul as he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand. While David was playing the harp,
  5. Saul tried to pin him to the wall with his spear, but David eluded him as Saul drove the spear into the wall. That night David made good his escape.
  1. 사울이 다윗의 집으로 부하들을 보내어, 그를 지키고 있다가, 아침에 죽이라고 시켰다. 그러나 다윗의 아내 미갈이 그에게 "당신은 오늘 밤에 피하지 않으면, 내일 틀림없이 죽습니다" 하고 경고하였다.
  2. 미갈이 다윗을 창문으로 내려보내니, 다윗이 거기에서 달아나서, 목숨을 건졌다.
  3. 한편, 미갈은, 집 안에 있는 우상을 가져다가 침대에 누이고, 그 머리에는 염소털로 짠 망을 씌우고, 그 몸에는 옷을 입혔다.
  4. 사울의 부하들이 다윗을 잡으러 오자, 미갈은 남편이 병이 들어서 누워 있다고 말하였다.
  5. 그러자 사울은 다윗이 정말 아픈지 확인하여 보라고 그 부하들을 다시 보내면서, 자기가 직접 죽일 터이니, 그를 침대째로 자기에게 들고 오라고 하였다.
  1. Saul sent men to David's house to watch it and to kill him in the morning. But Michal, David's wife, warned him, "If you don't run for your life tonight, tomorrow you'll be killed."
  2. So Michal let David down through a window, and he fled and escaped.
  3. Then Michal took an idol and laid it on the bed, covering it with a garment and putting some goats' hair at the head.
  4. When Saul sent the men to capture David, Michal said, "He is ill."
  5. Then Saul sent the men back to see David and told them, "Bring him up to me in his bed so that I may kill him."
  1. 부하들이 와서 보니, 침대에는 집 안에 있던 우상이 누워 있었다. 머리에 염소털로 짠 망을 씌운 채 뉘어 놓은 것이었다.
  2. 사울이 미갈에게 호통을 쳤다. "네가 왜 나를 속이고, 원수가 빠져 나가서 살아날 수 있게 하였느냐?" 그러자 미갈은, 다윗을 빠져 나가지 못하게 하였다가는 다윗이 자기를 죽였을 것이라고 사울에게 대답하였다.
  3. 다윗은 그렇게 달아나서 살아난 다음에, 라마로 사무엘을 찾아가서, 그 동안 사울이 자기에게 한 일을 모두 이야기하였다. 그러자 사무엘은 곧 다윗을 데리고 나욧으로 가서 살았다.
  4. 다윗이 라마의 나욧에 있다는 소식이 곧 사울에게 들어갔다.
  5. 사울은 다윗을 잡아 오라고 부하들을 보냈다. 그들이 가서 보니, 예언자들 한 무리가 사무엘 앞에서 춤추고 소리치며, 예언을 하고 있었다. 그 순간 그 부하들에게도 하나님의 영이 내리니, 그들도 춤추고 소리치며, 예언을 하였다.
  1. But when the men entered, there was the idol in the bed, and at the head was some goats' hair.
  2. Saul said to Michal, "Why did you deceive me like this and send my enemy away so that he escaped?" Michal told him, "He said to me, 'Let me get away. Why should I kill you?' "
  3. When David had fled and made his escape, he went to Samuel at Ramah and told him all that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went to Naioth and stayed there.
  4. Word came to Saul: "David is in Naioth at Ramah";
  5. so he sent men to capture him. But when they saw a group of prophets prophesying, with Samuel standing there as their leader, the Spirit of God came upon Saul's men and they also prophesied.
  1. 사람들이 사울에게 이 소식을 알리니, 사울이 다른 부하들을 보냈으나, 그들도 춤추고 소리치면서, 예언을 하는 것이었다. 사울이 다시 세 번째로 부하들을 보내니, 그들도, 마찬가지로 춤추고 소리치면서, 예언을 하였다.
  2. 드디어 사울이 직접 라마로 갔다. 그는 세구에 있는 큰 우물에 이르러, 사무엘과 다윗이 어디에 있는지를 물었다. 사람들은, 그 두 사람이 라마의 나욧에 있다고 대답하였다.
  3. 사울이 거기에서 라마의 나욧으로 가는데, 그에게도 하나님의 영이 내려서, 그는 라마의 나욧에 이를 때까지 계속하여 춤추고 소리치며, 열광 상태에서 예언을 하며 걸어갔다.
  4. 사무엘 앞에 이르러서는, 옷까지 벗어 버리고 춤추고 소리치면서 예언을 하고 나서, 그 날 하루 밤낮을 벗은 몸으로 쓰러져 있었다. （"사울도 예언자가 되었는가?" 하는 말이 여기에서 나왔다.）
  1. Saul was told about it, and he sent more men, and they prophesied too. Saul sent men a third time, and they also prophesied.
  2. Finally, he himself left for Ramah and went to the great cistern at Secu. And he asked, "Where are Samuel and David?" "Over in Naioth at Ramah," they said.
  3. So Saul went to Naioth at Ramah. But the Spirit of God came even upon him, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth.
  4. He stripped off his robes and also prophesied in Samuel's presence. He lay that way all that day and night. This is why people say, "Is Saul also among the prophets?"
