열왕기상 20:22-21:29

 1차 침공에 실패한 벤하닷은 2차 침공을 감행했고, 이스라엘은 전력의 열세에도 불구하고 하나님의 도우심으로 다시 대승을 거두었다. 그러나 아합은 하나님의 뜻을 벗어나 임의대로 벤하닷을 살려 줌으로써 하나님의 선지자로부터 심판을 예고받았다. 탐욕에 사로잡힌 아합이 나봇을 살해하고 그의 포도원을 빼앗자, 엘리야는 그에게 하나님의 심판을 선포하였다.
  
  벤하닷을 살려 준 아합(20:22-20:43)    
 
  1. 그 예언자가 다시 이스라엘 왕에게 와서, 이렇게 말하였다. "임금님께서는 힘을 키우시고, 앞으로 하셔야 할 일이 무엇인지를 생각해 두십시오. 내년에 시리아 임금이 다시 임금님을 치려고 올라올 것입니다."
  2. 시리아 왕의 신하들이 자기들의 왕에게 말하였다. "이스라엘의 신은 산의 신입니다. 저번에는 산에서 싸웠으므로, 우리가 졌습니다. 그러나 평지에서 싸우면, 우리가 그들을 반드시 이길 것입니다.
  3. 그러므로 임금님께서는 이렇게 하시는 것이 좋을 줄 압니다. 지방 영주를 모두 그 자리에서 물러나게 하시고, 그 대신에 군사령관들을 그 자리에 임명하십시오.
  4. 잃은 수만큼, 군대와 기마와 병거를 보충하십시오. 그런 다음에 평지에서 싸우면, 틀림없이 우리가 이길 것입니다." 왕은 그들의 말을 듣고, 그대로 하였다.
  5. 해가 바뀌었다. 벤하닷은 시리아 군대를 소집하고, 이스라엘과 싸우려고 아벡으로 올라갔다.
  1. Afterward, the prophet came to the king of Israel and said, "Strengthen your position and see what must be done, because next spring the king of Aram will attack you again."
  2. Meanwhile, the officials of the king of Aram advised him, "Their gods are gods of the hills. That is why they were too strong for us. But if we fight them on the plains, surely we will be stronger than they.
  3. Do this: Remove all the kings from their commands and replace them with other officers.
  4. You must also raise an army like the one you lost--horse for horse and chariot for chariot--so we can fight Israel on the plains. Then surely we will be stronger than they." He agreed with them and acted accordingly.
  5. The next spring Ben-Hadad mustered the Arameans and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.
  1. 이스라엘 군대도 소집이 되어서, 식량을 배급받고는, 그들과 싸우려고 나아갔다. 이스라엘 군대가 그들 앞에 진을 쳤으나, 이스라엘 군대는 시리아 군대에 비하면, 마치 작은 염소 두 떼와 같았고, 시리아 군대는 그 땅을 가득 채울 만큼 많았다.
  2. 그 때에 하나님의 사람이 가까이 와서, 이스라엘 왕에게 말하였다. "주님께서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. '시리아 사람이 말하기를, 내가 산의 신이지, 평지의 신은 아니라고 하니, 내가 이 큰 군대를 모두 네 손에 내주겠다. 이제 너희는 곧, 내가 주인 줄 알게 될 것이다.'"
  3. 양쪽 군대는 서로 대치하여서, 이레 동안 진을 치고 있었다. 드디어 이레째 되는 날 전투가 벌어졌는데, 이스라엘 군대가 시리아 군대를 쳐서 하루만에 보병 십만 명을 무찔렀다.
  4. 그 나머지는 아벡 성으로 도망하였으나, 성벽이 무너져서, 나머지 이만 칠천 명을 덮쳐 버렸다. 벤하닷도 도망하여서, 그 성 안의 어느 골방으로 들어갔다.
  5. 그의 신하들이 그에게 말하였다. "이스라엘 왕가의 왕들은 모두 인정이 많은 왕이라고 들었습니다. 우리가 굵은 베로 허리를 묶고, 목에 줄을 동여 매고, 이스라엘 왕에게 가면, 어쩌면 그가 임금님의 생명을 살려 줄지도 모릅니다."
  1. When the Israelites were also mustered and given provisions, they marched out to meet them. The Israelites camped opposite them like two small flocks of goats, while the Arameans covered the countryside.
  2. The man of God came up and told the king of Israel, "This is what the LORD says: 'Because the Arameans think the LORD is a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know that I am the LORD.' "
  3. For seven days they camped opposite each other, and on the seventh day the battle was joined. The Israelites inflicted a hundred thousand casualties on the Aramean foot soldiers in one day.
  4. The rest of them escaped to the city of Aphek, where the wall collapsed on twenty-seven thousand of them. And Ben-Hadad fled to the city and hid in an inner room.
  5. His officials said to him, "Look, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful. Let us go to the king of Israel with sackcloth around our waists and ropes around our heads. Perhaps he will spare your life."

  4. 예언자의 무리 가운데서 어떤 예언자가 주님의 명령을 받고서, 동료에게 자기를 때리라고 말하였으나, 그 동료가 때리기를 거절하니,
  5. 그 예언자가 말하였다. "네가 주님의 말씀에 순종하지 않았으니, 네가 나를 떠날 때에 사자가 너를 죽일 것이다." 과연 그 사람이 그를 떠날 때에 사자가 나타나서 그를 죽였다.
  1. Wearing sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Israel and said, "Your servant Ben-Hadad says: 'Please let me live.' " The king answered, "Is he still alive? He is my brother."
  2. The men took this as a good sign and were quick to pick up his word. "Yes, your brother Ben-Hadad!" they said. "Go and get him," the king said. When Ben-Hadad came out, Ahab had him come up into his chariot.
  3. "I will return the cities my father took from your father," Ben-Hadad offered. "You may set up your own market areas in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria." Ahab said, "On the basis of a treaty I will set you free." So he made a treaty with him, and let him go.
  4. By the word of the LORD one of the sons of the prophets said to his companion, "Strike me with your weapon," but the man refused.
  5. So the prophet said, "Because you have not obeyed the LORD, as soon as you leave me a lion will kill you." And after the man went away, a lion found him and killed him.
  1. 그 예언자가 또 다른 사람을 만나서, 자기를 때리라고 말하였다. 그러자 그 사람은 예언자를 때려서, 심한 상처를 입혔다.
  2. 그 예언자는 붕대로 눈을 감아서 위장하고는, 길목으로 가서, 왕을 기다렸다.
  3. 왕이 그대로 지나치려고 하니, 예언자는 왕을 부르며 말하였다. "임금님의 종인 제가 전쟁터에 갔습니다. 그런데 어떤 사람이 저에게로 포로 한 명을 데리고 와서는, 그 사람을 감시하라고 하였습니다. 포로가 도망을 하면, 제가 대신 죽든지, 아니면 은 한 달란트를 물어 내야 한다고 하였습니다.
  4. 그런데 임금님의 종인 소인이 이 일 저 일을 하는 동안에, 그 포로가 없어지고 말았습니다." 그러자 이스라엘 왕이 그에게 말하였다. "네가 받아들인 것이니, 벌금을 물어야 한다."
  5. 그 예언자는 그의 눈에 감은 붕대를 급히 풀었다. 그 때에야 이스라엘 왕은, 그가 예언자 가운데 한 사람임을 알았다.
  1. The prophet found another man and said, "Strike me, please." So the man struck him and wounded him.
  2. Then the prophet went and stood by the road waiting for the king. He disguised himself with his headband down over his eyes.
  3. As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him, "Your servant went into the thick of the battle, and someone came to me with a captive and said, 'Guard this man. If he is missing, it will be your life for his life, or you must pay a talent of silver.'
  4. While your servant was busy here and there, the man disappeared." "That is your sentence," the king of Israel said. "You have pronounced it yourself."
  5. Then the prophet quickly removed the headband from his eyes, and the king of Israel recognized him as one of the prophets.
  1. 그 예언자는 왕에게 이렇게 말하였다. "주님께서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. '내가 멸망시키기로 작정한 사람을 네가 직접 놓아 주었으니, 너는 그 목숨을 대신하여서 죽게 될 것이고, 네 백성은 그의 백성을 대신하여서 멸망할 것이다.'"
  2. 이스라엘 왕은, 마음이 상하여 화를 내면서, 사마리아에 있는 자기의 궁으로 돌아갔다.
  1. He said to the king, "This is what the LORD says: 'You have set free a man I had determined should die. Therefore it is your life for his life, your people for his people.' "
  2. Sullen and angry, the king of Israel went to his palace in Samaria.
 
  나봇의 포도원(21:1-21:29)    
 
  1. 그 뒤에 이런 일이 있었다. 이스르엘 사람 나봇이 이스르엘 땅에 포도원을 하나 가지고 있었는데, 그 포도원은 사마리아의 왕 아합의 궁 근처에 있었다.
  2. 아합이 나봇에게 말하였다. "그대의 포도원이 나의 궁 가까이에 있으니, 나에게 넘기도록 하시오. 나는 그것을 정원으로 만들려고 하오. 내가 그것 대신에 더 좋은 포도원을 하나 주겠소. 그대가 원하면, 그 값을 돈으로 계산하여 줄 수도 있소."
  3. 나봇이 아합에게 말하였다. "제가 조상의 유산을 임금님께 드리는 일은, 주님께서 금하시는 불경한 일입니다."
  4. 아합은, 이스르엘 사람 나봇이 그 포도원을 조상의 유산이라는 이유로 양도하기를 거절하였으므로, 마음이 상하였다. 화를 내며 궁으로 돌아와서, 침대에 누워 얼굴을 돌리고, 음식도 먹지 않았다.
  5. 그러자 그의 아내 이세벨이 그에게로 와서, 무슨 일로 그렇게 마음이 상하여 음식까지 들지 않는지를 물었다.
  1. Some time later there was an incident involving a vineyard belonging to Naboth the Jezreelite. The vineyard was in Jezreel, close to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.
  2. Ahab said to Naboth, "Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden, since it is close to my palace. In exchange I will give you a better vineyard or, if you prefer, I will pay you whatever it is worth."
  3. But Naboth replied, "The LORD forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers."
  4. So Ahab went home, sullen and angry because Naboth the Jezreelite had said, "I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers." He lay on his bed sulking and refused to eat.
  5. His wife Jezebel came in and asked him, "Why are you so sullen? Why won't you eat?"
  1. 왕이 그에게 대답하였다. "내가 이스르엘 사람 나봇에게, 그의 포도원을 내게 넘겨 주면, 그 값을 돈으로 계산해 주든지, 그가 원하면 그 대신 다른 포도원을 주든지 하겠다고 했는데, 그는 자기의 포도원을 내게 줄 수가 없다고 하였소. 그 때문이오."

  1. He answered her, "Because I said to Naboth the Jezreelite, 'Sell me your vineyard; or if you prefer, I will give you another vineyard in its place.' But he said, 'I will not give you my vineyard.' "
  2. Jezebel his wife said, "Is this how you act as king over Israel? Get up and eat! Cheer up. I'll get you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite."
  3. So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, placed his seal on them, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth's city with him.
  4. In those letters she wrote: "Proclaim a day of fasting and seat Naboth in a prominent place among the people.
  5. But seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them testify that he has cursed both God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death."
  1. 그 성 안에 살고 있는 원로들과 귀족들은, 이세벨이 편지에 쓴 그대로 하였다.
  2. 그들은 금식을 선포하고, 나봇을 백성 가운데 높이 앉게 하였다.
  3. 건달 둘이 나와서, 그와 마주 앉았다. 그리고 그 건달들은 백성 앞에서 나봇을 두고, 거짓으로 "나봇이 하나님과 임금님을 욕하였다" 하고 증언하였다. 그렇게 하니, 그들은 나봇을 성 바깥으로 끌고 가서, 돌로 쳐서 죽인 뒤에,
  4. 이세벨에게 나봇이 돌에 맞아 죽었다고 알렸다.
  5. 이세벨은 나봇이 돌에 맞아 죽었다는 소식을 듣고, 곧 아합에게 말하였다. "일어나십시오. 돈을 주어도 당신에게 넘기지 않겠다고 하던 이스르엘 사람 나봇의 포도원을 차지하십시오. 나봇은 살아 있지 않습니다. 죽었습니다."
  1. So the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth's city did as Jezebel directed in the letters she had written to them.
  2. They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth in a prominent place among the people.
  3. Then two scoundrels came and sat opposite him and brought charges against Naboth before the people, saying, "Naboth has cursed both God and the king." So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.
  4. Then they sent word to Jezebel: "Naboth has been stoned and is dead."
  5. As soon as Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, "Get up and take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite that he refused to sell you. He is no longer alive, but dead."
  1. 아합은, 나봇이 죽었다는 말을 듣고 일어나서, 이스르엘에 있는 나봇의 포도원을 차지하려고 내려갔다.
  2. 주님께서 디셉 사람 엘리야에게 말씀하셨다.

  1. When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take possession of Naboth's vineyard.
  2. Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite:
  3. "Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth's vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it.
  4. Say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?' Then say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth's blood, dogs will lick up your blood--yes, yours!' "
  5. Ahab said to Elijah, "So you have found me, my enemy!" "I have found you," he answered, "because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD.
  1. '내가 너에게 재앙을 내려 너를 쓸어 버리되, 너 아합 가문에 속한 남자는 종이든지 자유인이든지, 씨도 남기지 않고, 이스라엘 가운데서 없애 버리겠다.
  2. 네가 이스라엘 사람에게 죄를 짓게 해서 나를 분노하게 하였으니, 내가 네 가문을, 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 가문처럼, 또 아히야의 아들 바아사의 가문처럼 되게 하겠다.'
  3. 주님께서는 또 이세벨을 두고서도 '개들이 이스르엘 성 밖에서 이세벨의 주검을 찢어 먹을 것이다' 하고 말씀하셨습니다.
  4. 아합 가문에 속한 사람은, 성 안에서 죽으면 개들이 찢어 먹을 것이고, 성 밖에서 죽으면 하늘의 새들이 쪼아 먹을 것이라고 하셨습니다."
  5. （자기 아내 이세벨의 충동에 말려든 아합처럼, 주님께서 보시기에 이렇게 악한 일을 하여 자기 목숨을 팔아 버린 사람은, 일찍이 없었다.
  1. 'I am going to bring disaster on you. I will consume your descendants and cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel--slave or free.
  2. I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat and that of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have provoked me to anger and have caused Israel to sin.'
  3. "And also concerning Jezebel the LORD says: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.'
  4. "Dogs will eat those belonging to Ahab who die in the city, and the birds of the air will feed on those who die in the country."
  5. (There was never a man like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, urged on by Jezebel his wife.
  1. 아합은, 주님께서 이스라엘 자손의 눈 앞에서 쫓아내신 그 아모리 사람이 한 것을 본받아서, 우상을 숭배하는 매우 혐오스러운 일을 하였다.）
  2. 아합은 이 말을 듣고는, 자기 옷을 찢고 맨몸에 굵은 베 옷을 걸치고 금식하였으며, 누울 때에도 굵은 베 옷을 입은 채로 눕고, 또 일어나서 거닐 때에도 슬픈 표정으로 힘없이 걸었다.
  3. 그 때에 주님께서 디셉 사람 엘리야에게 말씀하셨다.
  4. "너는, 아합이 내 앞에서 겸손해진 것을 보았느냐? 그가 내 앞에서 겸손해졌기 때문에, 나는, 그가 살아 있는 동안에는 그에게 재앙을 내리지 않고, 그의 아들 대에 가서 그 가문에 재앙을 내리겠다."
  1. He behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols, like the Amorites the LORD drove out before Israel.)
  2. When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went around meekly.
  3. Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite:
  4. "Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son."
