역대하 10:1-12:16

 과중한 세금과 노역에 시달리던 백성들은 르호보암에게 시정을 요구하였지만, 그는 어리석게도 강경책을 고수하였다. 결국 여로보암을 중심으로 열 지파가 반란을 일으켜 왕국은 둘로 나뉘게 되었다. 르호보암은 초기에는 지혜로운 통치로 왕국을 안정시켰으나, 나라가 강성해지자 율법을 버리고 하나님께 범죄함으로써 애굽 왕 시삭의 침입을 받는 징계를 받았다.
  
  왕국 분열(10:1-10:19)    
 
  1. 온 이스라엘이 르호보암을 왕으로 세우려고 세겜에 모였으므로, 르호보암이 세겜으로 갔다.
  2. 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 이 소식을 들었다. 그는 솔로몬 왕을 피하여 이집트에 가 있었는데, 이 소식을 듣고 이집트에서 돌아왔다.
  3. 사람들이 여로보암을 불러내니, 그와 온 이스라엘이 르호보암에게 가서, 이렇게 말하였다.

  1. Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all the Israelites had gone there to make him king.
  2. When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard this (he was in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), he returned from Egypt.
  3. So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and all Israel went to Rehoboam and said to him:
  4. "Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but now lighten the harsh labor and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you."
  5. Rehoboam answered, "Come back to me in three days." So the people went away.

  1. Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. "How would you advise me to answer these people?" he asked.
  2. They replied, "If you will be kind to these people and please them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your servants."
  3. But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.
  4. He asked them, "What is your advice? How should we answer these people who say to me, 'Lighten the yoke your father put on us'?"
  5. The young men who had grown up with him replied, "Tell the people who have said to you, 'Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter'-tell them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's waist.
  1. 내 아버지가 너희에게 무거운 멍에를 메우셨으나, 나는 이제 너희에게 그것보다 더 무거운 멍에를 메우겠다. 내 아버지께서는 너희를 가죽 채찍으로 매질하셨으나, 나는 너희를 쇠 채찍으로 치겠다' 하고 말씀하십시오."

  3. 왕은 원로들의 충고를 무시하고, 백성에게 가혹하게 대답하였다.
  4. 르호보암 왕은 젊은 신하들의 충고를 따라 백성에게 이렇게 대답하였다. "내 아버지가 당신들에게 무거운 멍에를 메우셨으나, 나는 이제 당신들에게 그것보다 더 무거운 멍에를 메우겠소. 내 아버지께서는 당신들을 가죽 채찍으로 매질하셨으나, 나는 당신들을 쇠 채찍으로 치겠소."
  5. 왕이 이처럼 백성의 요구를 들어 주지 않았으니, 하나님께서 일이 그렇게 뒤틀리도록 시키셨던 것이다. 주님께서 이미 실로 사람 아히야를 시키셔서, 느밧의 아들 여로보암에게 하신 말씀을 이루시려는 것이었다.
  1. My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.' "
  2. Three days later Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, as the king had said, "Come back to me in three days."
  3. The king answered them harshly. Rejecting the advice of the elders,
  4. he followed the advice of the young men and said, "My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions."
  5. So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from God, to fulfill the word the LORD had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.

  1. When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king: "What share do we have in David, what part in Jesse's son? To your tents, O Israel! Look after your own house, O David!" So all the Israelites went home.
  2. But as for the Israelites who were living in the towns of Judah, Rehoboam still ruled over them.
  3. King Rehoboam sent out Adoniram, who was in charge of forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. King Rehoboam, however, managed to get into his chariot and escape to Jerusalem.
  4. So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.
 
  유다 왕국의 강성(11:1-11:23)    
 
  1. 르호보암이 예루살렘에 이르러, 유다와 베냐민 가문에 동원령을 내려서 정병 십팔만 명을 소집하였다. 그는 이스라엘과 싸워서, 왕국을 다시 르호보암에게 돌리려고 하였다.
  2. 그러나 그 때에, 주님께서 하나님의 사람 스마야에게 말씀하셨다.
  3. "너는, 솔로몬의 아들 유다의 르호보암 왕과 유다와 베냐민 지방의 온 이스라엘에게 이 말을 전하여라.

  1. When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he mustered the house of Judah and Benjamin--a hundred and eighty thousand fighting men--to make war against Israel and to regain the kingdom for Rehoboam.
  2. But this word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God:
  3. "Say to Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah and to all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin,
  4. 'This is what the LORD says: Do not go up to fight against your brothers. Go home, every one of you, for this is my doing.' " So they obeyed the words of the LORD and turned back from marching against Jeroboam.
  5. Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem and built up towns for defense in Judah:
  1. 베들레헴과 에담과 드고아와

  1. 그는 이 요새 성읍들을 강화하고, 거기에 책임자를 임명하고, 양식과 기름과 술을 저장하여 두었다.

  5. 따로 제사장들을 세워서, 여러 산당에서 숫염소 우상과 자기가 만든 송아지 우상을 섬기게 하였기 때문이다.
  1. He strengthened their defenses and put commanders in them, with supplies of food, olive oil and wine.
  2. He put shields and spears in all the cities, and made them very strong. So Judah and Benjamin were his.
  3. The priests and Levites from all their districts throughout Israel sided with him.
  4. The Levites even abandoned their pasturelands and property, and came to Judah and Jerusalem because Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD.
  5. And he appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat and calf idols he had made.
  1. 이 밖에도 이스라엘 모든 지파들 가운데서 주 이스라엘의 하나님의 뜻을 찾기로 마음을 굳힌 이들이, 주 조상의 하나님께 제사를 드리려고, 레위 사람을 따라 예루살렘에 왔다.
  2. 그들은 유다 나라를 강하게 하고, 솔로몬의 아들 르호보암의 왕권을 확고하게 하여 주었다. 그러나 그것은 삼 년 동안뿐이었다. 르호보암이 다윗과 솔로몬의 본을 받아 산 것이 삼 년 동안이었기 때문이다.

  1. Those from every tribe of Israel who set their hearts on seeking the LORD, the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
  2. They strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam son of Solomon three years, walking in the ways of David and Solomon during this time.
  3. Rehoboam married Mahalath, who was the daughter of David's son Jerimoth and of Abihail, the daughter of Jesse's son Eliab.
  4. She bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah and Zaham.
  5. Then he married Maacah daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith.
  1. 르호보암은 아내 열여덟 명과 첩 예순 명을 거느렸고, 그들에게서 아들 스물여덟 명과 딸 육십 명을 보았지만, 그는 다른 아내들이나 첩들보다 압살롬의 딸 마아가를 더욱 사랑하였다.
  2. 르호보암은 마아가의 아들 아비야를 자기의 후계자로 삼을 생각이었으므로, 왕자들 가운데서 서열을 가장 높게 하였다.
  3. 르호보암은 슬기롭게도, 자기 아들들에게 유다와 베냐민 전 지역과 요새 성읍들을 나누어 맡기고, 양식도 넉넉하게 대어 주었으며, 아내들도 많이 얻어 주었다.
  1. Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom more than any of his other wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
  2. Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah to be the chief prince among his brothers, in order to make him king.
  3. He acted wisely, dispersing some of his sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and took many wives for them.
 
  애굽의 침입(12:1-12:16)    
 
  1. 르호보암은 왕위가 튼튼해지고 세력이 커지자, 주님의 율법을 저버렸다. 온 이스라엘도 그를 본받게 되었다.
  2. 그들이 주님께 범죄한 결과로, 르호보암 왕이 즉위한 지 오 년째 되던 해에, 이집트의 시삭 왕이 예루살렘을 치러 올라왔다.
  3. 그는 병거 천이백 대, 기병 육만 명, 거기에다가 이루 헤아릴 수 없이 많은 리비아와 숩과 에티오피아 군대를 이끌고 이집트에서 쳐들어 왔다.

  1. After Rehoboam's position as king was established and he had become strong, he and all Israel with him abandoned the law of the LORD.
  2. Because they had been unfaithful to the LORD, Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem in the fifth year of King Rehoboam.
  3. With twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen and the innumerable troops of Libyans, Sukkites and Cushites that came with him from Egypt,
  4. he captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.
  5. Then the prophet Shemaiah came to Rehoboam and to the leaders of Judah who had assembled in Jerusalem for fear of Shishak, and he said to them, "This is what the LORD says, 'You have abandoned me; therefore, I now abandon you to Shishak.' "
  1. 그러자 이스라엘 지도자들과 왕은 자신들의 잘못을 뉘우치고 "주님께서는 공의로우십니다" 하고 고백하였다.

  4. 이집트의 시삭 왕이 예루살렘을 치러 올라와서, 주님의 성전 보물과 왕실 보물을 하나도 남기지 않고 다 털어 갔다. 솔로몬이 만든 금방패들도 가져 갔다.
  5. 그래서 르호보암 왕은 금방패 대신에 놋방패들을 만들어서, 대궐 문을 지키는 경호 책임자들에게 주었다.
  1. The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, "The LORD is just."
  2. When the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, this word of the LORD came to Shemaiah: "Since they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them but will soon give them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak.
  3. They will, however, become subject to him, so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kings of other lands."
  4. When Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem, he carried off the treasures of the temple of the LORD and the treasures of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields Solomon had made.
  5. So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned these to the commanders of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
  1. 왕이 주님의 성전에 들어갈 때마다 경호원들은 그 놋방패를 들고 가서 경호하다가, 다시 경호실로 가져 오곤 하였다.

  1. Whenever the king went to the LORD's temple, the guards went with him, bearing the shields, and afterward they returned them to the guardroom.
  2. Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the LORD's anger turned from him, and he was not totally destroyed. Indeed, there was some good in Judah.
  3. King Rehoboam established himself firmly in Jerusalem and continued as king. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his Name. His mother's name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.
  4. He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the LORD.
  5. As for the events of Rehoboam's reign, from beginning to end, are they not written in the records of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer that deal with genealogies? There was continual warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam.
  1. 르호보암이 죽어서 '다윗 성'에 안장되자, 그의 아들 아비야가 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.
  1. Rehoboam rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And Abijah his son succeeded him as king.
