욥기

  본서는 공의로운 하나님께서 불의를 방관하신 이유와 의로운 자가 고난받는 원인이 무엇인지를 밝혀 주며, 고난을 통하여 하나님을 더욱 의지해야 한다는 것을 보여 주고 있다. 특히 하나님, 인간, 창조, 사단, 죄, 의, 고난, 정의, 회개, 믿음의 개념을 성경적으로 올바르게 정리하는 데 공헌하고 있다.

  본서는 서론인 1, 2장과 본론인 3:1 - 42:6, 그리고 결론인 42:7-17로 명확하게 구분되어 있으며 상호 논리적 필연성으로 연결되어 있다. 즉 서론은 문제의 발단을 기록하고 있으며, 본론은 욥이 당한 고난에 대하여 욥과 친구들의 변론 및 하나님의 메시지를 통하여 다양하게 해석하고 있고, 결론은 하나님의 은혜로 모든 것이 회복된 상황을 보여주고 있다.

 

 

욥기 1:1-3:26

 욥은 순전하고 정직하여 하나님을 경외하며 악에서 떠난 자였다. 그러나 사단의 참소로 인해 욥은 그의 모든 소유물들과 자녀들을 잃고 온몸에 악창이 생겼다. 그렇지만 욥은 하나님께 입술로 범죄하지 않았으며, 이 소식을 듣고 찾아온 친구 엘리바스, 빌닷, 소발은 욥의 상태를 보고 7일 동안 말을 걸지 못하였다. 절망한 욥은 자신의 생일을 저주하였다.
  
  사단의 시험(1:1-1:22)    
 
  1. 우스라는 곳에 욥이라는 사람이 살고 있었다. 그는 흠이 없고 정직하였으며, 하나님을 경외하며 악을 멀리하는 사람이었다.
  2. 그에게는 아들 일곱과 딸 셋이 있고,
  3. 양이 칠천 마리, 낙타가 삼천 마리, 겨릿소가 오백 쌍, 암나귀가 오백 마리나 있고, 종도 아주 많이 있었다. 그는 동방에서 으뜸가는 부자였다.
  4. 그의 아들들은 저마다 생일이 되면, 돌아가면서 저희 집에서 잔치를 베풀고, 세 누이들도 오라고 해서 함께 음식을 먹곤 하였다.
  5. 잔치가 끝난 다음날이면, 욥은 으레 아침에 일찍 일어나서, 자식들을 생각하면서, 그들을 깨끗하게 하려고, 자식의 수대로 일일이 번제를 드렸다. 자식 가운데서 어느 하나라도, 알지 못하는 사이에라도 하나님을 저주하고 죄를 지었을 수도 있다고 생각하여, 잔치가 끝나고 난 뒤에는 늘 그렇게 하였다. 욥은 모든 일에 늘 이렇게 신중하였다.
  1. In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.
  2. He had seven sons and three daughters,
  3. and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East.
  4. His sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
  5. When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom.
  1. 하루는 하나님의 아들들이 와서 주님 앞에 섰는데, 사탄도 그들과 함께 서 있었다.
  2. 주님께서 사탄에게 "어디를 갔다가 오는 길이냐?" 하고 물으셨다. 사탄은 주님께 "땅을 이리저리 돌아다니다가 오는 길입니다" 하고 대답하였다.
  3. 주님께서 사탄에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 내 종 욥을 잘 살펴 보았느냐? 이 세상에는 그 사람만큼 흠이 없고 정직한 사람, 그렇게 하나님을 경외하며 악을 멀리하는 사람은 없다."
  4. 그러자 사탄이 주님께 아뢰었다. "욥이, 아무것도 바라는 것이 없이 하나님을 경외하겠습니까?
  5. 주님께서, 그와 그의 집과 그가 가진 모든 것을 울타리로 감싸 주시고, 그가 하는 일이면 무엇에나 복을 주셔서, 그의 소유를 온 땅에 넘치게 하지 않으셨습니까?
  1. One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them.
  2. The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."
  3. Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."
  4. "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied.
  5. "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.
  1. 이제라도 주님께서 손을 드셔서, 그가 가진 모든 것을 치시면, 그는 주님 앞에서 주님을 저주할 것입니다."
  2. 주님께서 사탄에게 말씀하셨다. "그가 가진 모든 것을 다 네게 맡겨 보겠다. 다만, 그의 몸에는 손을 대지 말아라!" 그 때에 사탄이 주님 앞에서 물러갔다.
  3. 하루는, 욥의 아들과 딸들이 맏아들의 집에서 음식을 먹으며, 포도주를 마시고 있는데,
  4. 일꾼 하나가 욥에게 달려와서, 다급하게 말하였다. "우리가 소를 몰아 밭을 갈고, 나귀들은 그 근처에서 풀을 뜯고 있는데,
  5. 스바 사람들이 갑자기 들이닥쳐, 가축들을 빼앗아 가고, 종들을 칼로 쳐서 죽였습니다. 저 혼자만 겨우 살아 남아서, 주인 어른께 이렇게 소식을 전해 드립니다."
  1. But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face."
  2. The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger." Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
  3. One day when Job's sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house,
  4. a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby,
  5. and the Sabeans attacked and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
  1. 이 일꾼이 아직 말을 다 마치지도 않았는데, 또 다른 사람이 달려와서 말하였다. "하늘에서 하나님의 불이 떨어져서, 양 떼와 목동들을 살라 버렸습니다. 저 혼자만 겨우 살아 남아서, 주인 어른께 이렇게 소식을 전해 드립니다."
  2. 이 사람도 아직 말을 다 마치지 않았는데, 또 다른 사람이 달려와서 말하였다. "갈대아 사람 세 무리가 갑자기 낙타 떼에게 달려들어서 모두 끌어가고, 종들을 칼로 쳐서 죽였습니다. 저 혼자만 겨우 살아 남아서, 주인 어른께 이렇게 소식을 전해 드립니다."
  3. 이 사람도 아직 말을 다 마치지 않았는데, 또 다른 사람이 달려와서 말하였다. "주인 어른의 아드님과 따님들이 큰 아드님 댁에서 한창 음식을 먹으며, 포도주를 마시는데,
  4. 갑자기 광야에서 강풍이 불어와서, 그 집 네 모퉁이를 내리쳤고, 집이 무너졌습니다. 그 때에 젊은 사람들이 그 속에 깔려서, 모두 죽었습니다. 저 혼자만 겨우 살아 남아서, 주인 어른께 이렇게 소식을 전해 드립니다."
  5. 이 때에 욥은 일어나 슬퍼하며 겉옷을 찢고 머리털을 민 다음에, 머리를 땅에 대고 엎드려 경배하면서,
  1. While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The fire of God fell from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
  2. While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
  3. While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, "Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house,
  4. when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
  5. At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship
  1. 이렇게 말하였다. "모태에서 빈 손으로 태어났으니, 죽을 때에도 빈 손으로 돌아갈 것입니다. 주신 분도 주님이시요, 가져 가신 분도 주님이시니, 주님의 이름을 찬양할 뿐입니다."
  2. 이렇게 욥은, 이 모든 어려움을 당하고서도 죄를 짓지 않았으며, 어리석게 하나님을 원망하지도 않았다.
  1. and said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised."
  2. In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.
 
  사단의 두번째 시험(2:1-2:13)    
 
  1. 하루는 하나님의 아들들이 와서 주님 앞에 서고, 사탄도 그들과 함께 주님 앞에 섰다.
  2. 주님께서 사탄에게 "어디를 갔다가 오는 길이냐?" 하고 물으셨다. 사탄은 주님께 "땅을 이리저리 돌아다니다가 오는 길입니다" 하고 대답하였다.
  3. 주님께서 사탄에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 내 종 욥을 잘 살펴 보았느냐? 이 세상에 그 사람만큼 흠이 없고 정직한 사람, 그렇게 하나님을 경외하고 악을 멀리하는 사람이 없다. 네가 나를 부추겨서, 공연히 그를 해치려고 하였지만, 그는 여전히 자기의 온전함을 굳게 지키고 있지 않느냐?"
  4. 사탄이 주님께 아뢰었다. "가죽은 가죽으로 대신할 수 있습니다. 사람은 자기 생명을 지키는 일이면, 자기가 가진 모든 것을 버립니다.
  5. 이제라도 주님께서 손을 들어서 그의 뼈와 살을 치시면, 그는 당장 주님 앞에서 주님을 저주하고 말 것입니다!"
  1. On another day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them to present himself before him.
  2. And the LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."
  3. Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason."
  4. "Skin for skin!" Satan replied. "A man will give all he has for his own life.
  5. But stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face."
  1. 주님께서 사탄에게 말씀하셨다. "그렇다면, 그를 너에게 맡겨 보겠다. 그러나 그의 생명만은 건드리지 말아라!"
  2. 사탄은 주님 앞에서 물러나 곧 욥을 쳐서, 발바닥에서부터 정수리에까지 악성 종기가 나서 고생하게 하였다.
  3. 그래서 욥은 잿더미에 앉아서, 옹기 조각을 가지고 자기 몸을 긁고 있었다.
  4. 그러자 아내가 그에게 말하였다. "이래도 당신은 여전히 신실함을 지킬 겁니까? 차라리 하나님을 저주하고서 죽는 것이 낫겠습니다."
  5. 그러나 욥은 그에게 이렇게 대답하였다. "당신까지도 어리석은 여자들처럼 말하는구려. 우리가 누리는 복도 하나님께로부터 받았는데, 어찌 재앙이라고 해서 못 받는다 하겠소?" 이렇게 하여, 욥은 이 모든 어려움을 당하고서도, 말로 죄를 짓지 않았다.
  1. The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life."
  2. So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.
  3. Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes.
  4. His wife said to him, "Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!"
  5. He replied, "You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?" In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.
  1. 그 때에 욥의 친구 세 사람, 곧 데만 사람 엘리바스와 수아 사람 빌닷과 나아마 사람 소발은, 욥이 이 모든 재앙을 만나서 고생한다는 소식을 듣고, 욥을 달래고 위로하려고, 저마다 집을 떠나서 욥에게로 왔다.
  2. 그들이 멀리서 욥을 보았으나, 그가 욥인 줄 알지 못하였다. 그들은 한참 뒤에야 그가 바로 욥인 줄을 알고, 슬픔을 못 이겨 소리 내어 울면서 겉옷을 찢고, 또 공중에 티끌을 날려서 머리에 뒤집어썼다.
  3. 그들은 밤낮 이레 동안을 욥과 함께 땅바닥에 앉아 있으면서도, 욥이 겪는 고통이 너무도 처참하여, 입을 열어 한 마디 말도 할 수 없었다.
  1. When Job's three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.
  2. When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him; they began to weep aloud, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads.
  3. Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was.
 
  자기의 생일을 저주하는 욥(3:1-3:26)    
 
  1. 드디어 욥이 말문을 열고, 자기 생일을 저주하면서
  2. 울부짖었다.
  3. 내가 태어나던 날이 차라리 사라져 버렸더라면, '남자 아이를 배었다'고 좋아하던 그 밤도 망해 버렸더라면,
  4. 그 날이 어둠에 덮여서, 높은 곳에 계신 하나님께서도 그 날을 기억하지 못하셨더라면, 아예 그 날이 밝지도 않았더라면,
  5. 어둠과 사망의 그늘이 그 날을 제 것이라 하여, 검은 구름이 그 날을 덮었더라면, 낮을 어둠으로 덮어서, 그 날을 공포 속에 몰아넣었더라면,
  1. After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth.
  2. He said:
  3. "May the day of my birth perish, and the night it was said, 'A boy is born!'
  4. That day--may it turn to darkness; may God above not care about it; may no light shine upon it.
  5. May darkness and deep shadow claim it once more; may a cloud settle over it; may blackness overwhelm its light.
  1. 그 밤도 흑암에 사로잡혔더라면, 그 밤이 아예 날 수와 달 수에도 들지 않았더라면,
  2. 아, 그 밤이 아무도 잉태하지 못하는 밤이었더라면, 아무도 기쁨의 소리를 낼 수 없는 밤이었더라면,
  3. 주문을 외워서 바다를 저주하는 자들이, 리워야단도 길들일 수 있는 마력을 가진 자들이, 그 날을 저주하였더라면,
  4. 그 밤에는 새벽 별들도 빛을 잃어서, 날이 밝기를 기다려도 밝지를 않고, 동트는 것도 볼 수 없었더라면, 좋았을 것을!
  5. 어머니의 태가 열리지 않아, 내가 태어나지 않았어야 하는 건데. 그래서 이 고난을 겪지 않아야 하는 건데!
  1. That night--may thick darkness seize it; may it not be included among the days of the year nor be entered in any of the months.
  2. May that night be barren; may no shout of joy be heard in it.
  3. May those who curse days curse that day, those who are ready to rouse Leviathan.
  4. May its morning stars become dark; may it wait for daylight in vain and not see the first rays of dawn,
  5. for it did not shut the doors of the womb on me to hide trouble from my eyes.
  1. 어찌하여 내가 모태에서 죽지 않았던가? 어찌하여 어머니 배에서 나오는 그 순간에 숨이 끊어지지 않았던가?
  2. 어찌하여 나를 무릎으로 받았으며, 어찌하여 어머니가 나를 품에 안고 젖을 물렸던가?
  3. 그렇게만 하지 않았더라도, 지금쯤은 내가 편히 누워서 잠들어 쉬고 있을 텐데.
  4. 지금은 폐허가 된 성읍이지만, 한때 그 성읍을 세우던 세상의 왕들과 고관들과 함께 잠들어 있을 텐데.
  5. 금과 은으로 집을 가득 채운 그 통치자들과 함께 잠들어 있을 텐데.
  1. "Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb?
  2. Why were there knees to receive me and breasts that I might be nursed?
  3. For now I would be lying down in peace; I would be asleep and at rest
  4. with kings and counselors of the earth, who built for themselves places now lying in ruins,
  5. with rulers who had gold, who filled their houses with silver.
  1. 낙태된 핏덩이처럼, 살아 있지도 않을 텐데. 햇빛도 못 본 핏덩이처럼 되었을 텐데!
  2. 그 곳은 악한 사람들도 더 이상 소란을 피우지 못하고, 삶에 지친 사람들도 쉴 수 있는 곳인데.
  3. 그 곳은 갇힌 사람들도 함께 평화를 누리고, 노예를 부리는 감독관의 소리도 들리지 않는 곳인데.
  4. 그 곳은 낮은 자와 높은 자의 구별이 없고, 종까지도 주인에게서 자유를 얻는 곳인데!
  5. 어찌하여 하나님은, 고난당하는 자들을 태어나게 하셔서 빛을 보게 하시고, 이렇게 쓰디쓴 인생을 살아가는 자들에게 생명을 주시는가?
  1. Or why was I not hidden in the ground like a stillborn child, like an infant who never saw the light of day?
  2. There the wicked cease from turmoil, and there the weary are at rest.
  3. Captives also enjoy their ease; they no longer hear the slave driver's shout.
  4. The small and the great are there, and the slave is freed from his master.
  5. "Why is light given to those in misery, and life to the bitter of soul,
  1. 이런 사람들은 죽기를 기다려도 죽음이 찾아와 주지 않는다. 그들은 보물을 찾기보다는 죽기를 더 바라다가
  2. 무덤이라도 찾으면 기뻐서 어쩔 줄 모르는데,
  3. 어찌하여 하나님은 길 잃은 사람을 붙잡아 놓으시고, 사방으로 그 길을 막으시는가?
  4. 밥을 앞에 놓고서도, 나오느니 탄식이요, 신음 소리 그칠 날이 없다.
  5. 마침내 그렇게도 두려워하던 일이 밀어닥치고, 그렇게도 무서워하던 일이 다가오고야 말았다.
  1. to those who long for death that does not come, who search for it more than for hidden treasure,
  2. who are filled with gladness and rejoice when they reach the grave?
  3. Why is life given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?
  4. For sighing comes to me instead of food; my groans pour out like water.
  5. What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.
  1. 내게는 평화도 없고, 안정도 없고, 안식마저 사라지고, 두려움만 끝없이 밀려온다!
  1. I have no peace, no quietness; I have no rest, but only turmoil."
