- 주님께서 들으시는 앞에서 백성들이 심하게 불평을 하였다. 주님께서 듣고 진노하시어, 그들 가운데 불을 놓아 진 언저리를 살라 버리셨다.
- 백성이 모세에게 부르짖었다. 모세가 주님께 기도드리니 불이 꺼졌다.
- 그래서 사람들은 그 곳 이름을 다베라라고 불렀다. 주님의 불이 그들 가운데서 타올랐기 때문이다.
- 이스라엘 자손 가운데 섞여 살던 무리들이 먹을 것 때문에 탐욕을 품으니, 이스라엘 자손들도 또다시 울며 불평하였다. "누가 우리에게 고기를 먹여 줄까?
- 이집트에서 생선을 공짜로 먹던 것이 기억에 생생한데, 그 밖에도 오이와 수박과 부추와 파와 마늘이 눈에 선한데,

- And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
- And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.
- And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.
- And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
- We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

- 이제 우리 눈에 보이는 것이라고는 이 만나밖에 없으니, 입맛마저 떨어졌다."
- 만나의 모양은 깟 씨와 같고, 그 빛깔은 브돌라와 같았다.
- 백성이 두루 다니면서 그것을 거두어다가, 맷돌에 갈거나 절구에 찧고, 냄비에 구워 과자를 만들었다. 그 맛은 기름에 반죽하여 만든 과자 맛과 같았다.
- 밤이 되어 진에 이슬이 내릴 때면, 만나도 그 위에 내리곤 하였다.
- 모세는, 백성이 각 가족별로, 제각기 자기 장막 어귀에서 우는 소리를 들었다. 주님께서 이 일로 대단히 노하셨고, 모세는 그 앞에서 걱정이 태산 같았다.

- But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
- And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.
- And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
- And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
- Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.

- 모세가 주님께 여쭈었다. "어찌하여 주님께서는 주님의 종을 이렇게도 괴롭게 하십니까? 어찌하여 저를 주님의 눈 밖에 벗어나게 하시어, 이 모든 백성을 저에게 짊어지우십니까?
- 이 모든 백성을 제가 배기라도 했습니까? 제가 그들을 낳기라도 했습니까? 어찌하여 저더러, 주님께서 그들의 조상에게 맹세하신 땅으로, 마치 유모가 젖먹이를 품듯이, 그들을 품에 품고 가라고 하십니까?
- 백성은 저를 보고 울면서 '우리가 먹을 수 있는 고기를 달라!' 하고 외치는데, 이 모든 백성에게 줄 고기를, 제가 어디서 구할 수 있습니까?
- 저 혼자서는 도저히 이 모든 백성을 짊어질 수 없습니다. 저에게는 너무 무겁습니다.
- 주님께서 저에게 정말로 이렇게 하셔야 하겠다면, 그리고 제가 주님의 눈 밖에 나지 않았다면, 제발 저를 죽이셔서, 제가 이 곤경을 당하지 않게 해주십시오."

- And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
- Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
- Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
- I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.
- And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

- 주님께서 모세에게 대답하셨다. "이스라엘 장로들 가운데서, 네가 백성의 장로들 또는 그 지도자라고 알고 있는 사람들 일흔 명을 나에게로 불러 오너라. 너는 그들을 데리고 회막으로 와서 그들과 함께 서라.
- 내가 내려가 거기에서 너와 말하겠다. 그리고 너에게 내려 준 영을 그들에게도 나누어 주어서, 백성 돌보는 짐을, 그들이 너와 함께 지게 하겠다. 그러면 너 혼자서 애쓰지 않아도 될 것이다.
- 너는 또 백성에게 이렇게 말하여라. 내일을 맞이하여야 하니, 너희는 스스로를 거룩하게 하여라. 너희가 고기를 먹게 될 것이다. '누가 우리에게 고기를 먹이려나? 이집트에서는 우리가 참 좋았었는데' 하고 울며 한 말이 나 주에게 들렸다. 이제 나 주가 너희에게 고기를 줄 터이니, 너희가 먹게 될 것이다.
- 하루만 먹고 그치지는 아니할 것이다. 이틀만도 아니고, 닷새만도 아니고, 열흘만도 아니고, 스무 날 동안만도 아니다.
- 한 달 내내, 냄새만 맡아도 먹기 싫을 때까지, 줄곧 그것을 먹게 될 것이다. 너희가 너희 가운데 있는 나 주를 거절하고, 내 앞에서 울면서 '우리가 왜 이집트를 떠났던가?' 하고 후회하였기 때문이다."

- And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
- And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
- And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
- Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
- But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

- 모세가 되물었다. "저를 둘러싸고 있는 백성의 보행자가 육십만 명입니다. 그런데 주님께서는 '그들에게 내가 고기를 주어, 한 달 내내 먹게 하겠다' 하고 말씀하시나,
- 그들을 먹이려고 양 떼와 소 떼를 잡은들, 그들이 만족해 하겠습니까? 바다에 있는 고기를 모두 잡은들, 그들이 만족해 하겠습니까?"
- 주님께서 모세에게 대답하셨다. "나의 손이 짧아지기라도 하였느냐? 이제 너는 내가 말한 것이 너에게 사실로 이루어지는지 그렇지 아니한지를 볼 것이다."

- And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
- Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
- And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD's hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
