민수기 22:1-23:30

 이스라엘 자손이 모압 평지에 진을 치자, 위협을 느낀 모압 왕 발락은 우상의 힘이라도 빌려 이를 저지하고자 당대의 유명한 복술가인 발람을 초청하였다. 그러나 하나님께서 발람에게 임하셔서 이스라엘을 저주하는 대신 오히려 축복하게 하셨다.
  
  발락의 발람 초청(22:1-22:41)    
 
  1. 이스라엘 자손이 길을 떠나 모압 평지에 진을 쳤다. 그 곳은 요단 강 건너, 곧 여리고 맞은편이다.
  2. 십볼의 아들 발락은 이스라엘이 아모리 사람에게 한 모든 일을 보았다.
  3. 모압 사람들은 이스라엘 백성의 수가 대단히 많아서 몹시 무서워하였다. 모압 사람들은 이스라엘 자손이 나타난 것 때문에 두려워하였다.
  4. 모압 사람들이 미디안 장로들에게 말하였다. "이제 이 큰 무리들이 우리 주변에 있는 모든 것을 먹어치우고 있습니다. 마치 소가 들판의 풀을 뜯어먹듯 합니다." 십볼의 아들 발락은 그 당시 모압의 왕이었다.
  5. 그는 브올의 아들 발람을 불러오려고 사신들을 브돌로 보내어 말을 전하게 하였다. 그 때에 발람은 큰 강 가, 자기 백성의 자손들이 사는 땅 브돌에 있었다. 발락이 한 말은 다음과 같다. "한 백성이 이집트에서 나와서, 온 땅을 덮고 있습니다. 드디어 바로 나의 맞은편에까지 와서 자리잡았습니다.
  1. And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.
  2. And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
  3. And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.
  4. And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.
  5. He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:
  1. 이제 오셔서, 나를 보아서 이 백성을 저주하여 주시기 바랍니다. 그들은 너무 강해서, 나로서는 도저히 감당할 수 없습니다. 그렇게만 해주신다면, 나는 그들을 쳐부수어서 이 땅에서 쫓아낼 수 있을 것입니다. 그대가 복을 비는 이는 복을 받고, 그대가 저주하는 이는 저주를 받는다는 것을, 나는 알고 있습니다."
  2. 모압 장로들과 미디안 장로들은 길을 떠났다. 그들은 복채를 가지고 갔다. 발람에게 이르렀을 때에, 그들은 발락이 자기들에게 한 말을 전하였다.
  3. 그러자 발람이 그들에게 말하였다. "오늘 밤은 여기에서 지내십시오. 주님께서 나에게 하시는 그 말씀을 들어 본 다음에 알려 드리겠습니다." 그리하여 모압 고관들은 발람과 함께 머물렀다.
  4. 하나님이 발람에게 오셔서 물으셨다. "너와 함께 있는 이 사람들이 누구냐?"
  5. 발람이 하나님께 아뢰었다. "십볼의 아들 발락 곧 모압 왕이 저에게 보낸 사신들입니다.
  1. Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.
  2. And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
  3. And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.
  4. And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?
  5. And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,
  1. 이집트에서 한 백성이 나왔는데, 그들이 온 땅을 덮었다고 합니다. 저더러 와서 발락에게 유리하도록 그 백성을 저주하여 달라는 부탁을 하였습니다. 그렇게만 해준다면, 발락은 그 백성을 쳐부수어서, 그들을 쫓아낼 수 있겠다는 것입니다."
  2. 하나님이 발람에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 그 사신들과 함께 가지 말아라. 이집트에서 나온 그 백성은 복을 받은 백성이니 저주하지도 말아라."
  3. 다음날 아침에 발람이 일어나, 발락이 보낸 고관들에게 말하였다. "당신들의 나라로 돌아가시기 바랍니다. 주님께서는 내가 당신들과 함께 가는 것을 허락하지 않으십니다."
  4. 그리하여 모압 고관들은 일어나 발락에게로 돌아가서 보고하였다. "발람이 우리와 함께 오기를 거절하였습니다."
  5. 발락은 사람들을 더 보냈다. 수도 늘리고 처음 갔던 이들보다 직위도 높은 사람들이었다.
  1. Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.
  2. And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.
  3. And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
  4. And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.
  5. And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.
  1. 그들이 발람에게 가서 말하였다. "십볼의 아들 발락이 말합니다. '아무것도 거리끼지 말고 나에게로 오시기 바랍니다.
  2. 내가 그대에게 아주 후하게 보답하겠고, 또 그대가 나에게 말씀하시는 것이면 무엇이든지 하겠습니다. 꼭 오셔서, 나에게 좋도록, 저 백성에게 저주를 빌어 주시기 바랍니다.'"
  3. 그러나 발람이 발락의 신하들에게 이렇게 대답하였다. "발락이 비록 그의 궁궐에 가득한 금과 은을 나에게 준다 해도, 주 나의 하나님의 명을 어기고서는, 크든 작든, 아무 일도 할 수 없습니다.
  4. 그대들은 오늘 밤은 이 곳에서 묵으십시오. 주님께서 나에게 무엇을 더 말씀하실지 알아보겠습니다."
  5. 그 날 밤에 하나님이 발람에게 오셔서 말씀하셨다. "이 사람들이 너를 부르러 왔으니, 너는 일어나 그들과 함께 가거라. 그러나 내가 너에게 하는 말만 하도록 하여라."
  1. And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:
  2. For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.
  3. And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.
  4. Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.
  5. And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.
  1. 발람은 아침에 일어나 자기 나귀에 안장을 얹고, 모압 고관들을 따라서 길을 나섰다.
  2. 그러나 그가 길을 나서는 것 때문에 하나님이 크게 노하셨다. 주님의 천사가 그의 대적자가 되어서, 길에 서서 가로막았다. 발람은 자기 나귀를 탄 채로 있었고, 그의 두 종이 그와 함께 있었다.
  3. 나귀는 주님의 천사가 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 길에 선 것을 보고, 길을 벗어나 밭으로 들어갔다. 발람은 나귀를 때려 다시 길로 들어서게 하였다.
  4. 그러자 주님의 천사가 이번에는 두 포도원 사이의 좁은 길을 막아섰다. 길 이쪽에도 담이 있고, 길 저쪽에도 담이 있었다.
  5. 나귀는 주님의 천사를 보자, 이쪽 벽으로 몸을 바짝 붙여, 발람의 발을 벽에 긁히게 하였다. 그러자 발람이 나귀를 한 대 더 때렸다.
  1. And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
  2. And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.
  3. And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
  4. But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
  5. And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.
  1. 그 때에 주님의 천사가 앞으로 더 나아가, 오른쪽으로도 왼쪽으로도 피할 수 없는 좁은 곳에 섰다.
  2. 나귀는 주님의 천사를 보고는, 발람을 태운 채로 주저앉았다. 발람은 화가 나서 지팡이로 나귀를 때렸다.
  3. 그 때에 주님께서 그 나귀의 입을 여시니, 그 나귀가 발람에게 말하였다. "제가 주인 어른께 무슨 잘못을 하였기에, 저를 이렇게 세 번씩이나 때리십니까?"
  4. 발람이 나귀에게 대답하였다. "너는 나를 놀림감으로 여기느냐? 내가 칼을 가지고 있었더라면, 이 자리에서 너를 죽였을 것이다."
  5. 나귀가 발람에게 말하였다. "저야말로 오늘까지 어른께서 늘 타시던 어른의 나귀가 아닙니까? 제가 언제 이처럼 버릇없이 군 적이 있었습니까?" 발람이 대답하였다. "없었다."
  1. And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
  2. And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.
  3. And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
  4. And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
  5. And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.
  1. 그 때에 주님께서 발람의 두 눈을 열어 주셨다. 그제야 그는, 주님의 천사가 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 길에 선 것을 보았다. 발람은 머리를 숙이고 엎드렸다.
  2. 주님의 천사가 그에게 물었다. "너는 왜 너의 나귀를 이렇게 세 번씩이나 때리느냐? 네가 가서는 안 될 길이기에 너를 막으려고 이렇게 왔다.
  3. 나귀는 나를 보고, 나에게서 세 번이나 비켜섰다. 다행히 나귀가 비켜섰기에 망정이지, 그렇지 않았더라면 내가, 나귀는 살렸겠지만, 너는 분명히 죽였을 것이다."
  4. 발람이 주님의 천사에게 말하였다. "제가 잘못하였습니다. 천사께서 저를 만나시려고 길에 서 계신 것을 몰랐습니다. 제가 가는 것이 잘못이면, 저는 되돌아가겠습니다."
  5. 주님의 천사가 발람에게 말하였다. "저 사람들하고 같이 가거라. 그러나 너는 내가 말해 주는 것만 말하여라." 그리하여 발람은 발락이 보낸 고관들과 함께 갔다.
  1. Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
  2. And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:
  3. And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.
  4. And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.
  5. And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
  1. 발락은 발람이 오고 있다는 소식을 듣고, 그를 맞이하러, 그의 영토가 끝나는 아르논 강 경계에 있는 모압의 한 성읍까지 나아갔다.
  2. 발락은 발람에게 말하였다. "내가 당신을 불러오려고 사신을 보내고 또 보내지 않았습니까? 어찌하여 곧바로 나에게 오지 않으셨습니까? 내가 당신을 존귀하게 대접할 능력이 없다고 생각하셨습니까?"
  3. 발람이 발락에게 대답하였다. "보십시오, 이렇게 제가 임금님께 왔습니다. 그러나 제가 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까? 하나님이 저의 입에 넣어 주시는 말씀, 그것이 무엇이든지, 저는 그것만을 말하겠습니다."
  4. 발람은 발락과 함께 갔다. 그들은 후솟 마을까지 갔다.
  5. 발락은 소와 양을 잡아 제사를 드리고, 발람과 그를 데리고 온 고관들에게 고기 얼마를 보내 주었다.
  1. And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
  2. And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?
  3. And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.
  4. And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjathhuzoth.
  5. And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.
  1. 다음날 아침이 되니, 발락은 발람을 데리고 바알 산당으로 올라갔다. 거기에서 발람은 이스라엘 백성이 친 진의 끝부분을 보았다.
  1. And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.
 
  발람의 예언(23:1-23:30)    
 
  1. 발람이 발락에게 말하였다. "저에게 필요하니, 이 곳에다가 제단 일곱을 만들어 주시기 바랍니다. 그리고 저에게 필요하니, 이 곳에다가 수송아지 일곱 마리와 숫양 일곱 마리를 준비하여 주시기 바랍니다."
  2. 그리하여 발락은, 발람이 말한 대로 하였다. 발락과 발람은 제단마다 수송아지와 숫양을 한 마리씩 바쳤다.
  3. 발람이 발락에게 말하였다. "임금님께서는 제물 곁에 서 계시기 바랍니다. 저는 가볼 데가 있습니다. 어쩌면 주님께서 저를 만나러 오실지도 모르겠습니다. 주님께서 저에게 밝히 나타내 주시는 것이면, 어떤 말씀이든지 제가 임금님께 말씀드리겠습니다." 그러면서 발람은 오솔길을 걸어갔다.
  4. 하나님이 발람에게 나타나셨다. 발람이 하나님께 아뢰었다. "일곱 제단을 제가 준비하였습니다. 그리고 각 제단마다 수송아지와 숫양을 한 마리씩 바쳤습니다."
  5. 주님께서는 발람의 입에 말씀을 넣어 주시면서, 발락에게로 돌아가서 그대로 말하라고 하셨다.
  1. And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.
  2. And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.
  3. And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.
  4. And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.
  5. And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.
  1. 발람이 발락에게로 돌아와서 보니, 발락이 번제물 곁에 그대로 서 있었다. 모압 고관들도 모두 그와 함께 있었다.
  2. 발람이 예언을 선포하였다. "발락이 나를 시리아에서 데려왔다. 모압의 왕이 나를 동쪽 산골에서 데려왔다. 와서, 자기에게 유리하게 야곱을 저주하라 하고 와서 이스라엘을 규탄하라 하였지만,
  3. 하나님이 저주하지 않으시는데, 내가 어떻게 저주하며, 주님께서 꾸짖지 않으시는데, 내가 어떻게 꾸짖으랴!
  4. 바위 산꼭대기에서 나는 그들을 내려다본다. 언덕 위에서 나는 그들을 굽어본다. 홀로 사는 저 백성을 보아라. 그들 스스로도 자신들을 여느 민족들 가운데 하나라고 생각하지는 않는다.
  5. 티끌처럼 많은 야곱의 자손을 누가 셀 수 있겠느냐? 먼지처럼 많은 이스라엘의 자손을 누가 셀 수 있겠느냐? 나는 정직한 사람이 죽듯이 죽기를 바란다. 나의 마지막이 정직한 사람의 마지막과 같기를 바란다."
  1. And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.
  2. And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.
  3. How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?
  4. For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
  5. Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!
  1. 발락이 발람에게 말하였다. "지금 무엇을 하고 있는 거요? 대적들을 저주해 달라고 당신을 데려왔습니다. 그런데 당신은 그들에게 복을 빌어 주었습니다!"
  2. 발람이 대답하였다. "주님께서 나의 입에 넣어 주시는 말씀을 말하지 말란 말입니까?"
  3. 발락이 그에게 말하였다. "나와 함께 다른 곳으로 가서 보시기 바랍니다. 거기에서는 그들의 일부만 보일 것입니다. 그들이 전부 다 보이지는 않을 것이니, 거기에서 나에게 유리하도록 그들을 저주하여 주시기 바랍니다."
  4. 그리하여 발락은 발람을 소빔 들판 비스가 산 꼭대기로 데리고 갔다. 거기에다가 그는 일곱 제단을 만들고 각 제단마다 수송아지와 숫양을 한 마리씩 바쳤다.
  5. 발람이 발락에게 말하였다. "임금님은 번제물 곁에 그대로 서 계시기 바랍니다. 나는 지난번처럼 주님을 만나 뵈어야 합니다."
  1. And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.
  2. And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?
  3. And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.
  4. And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
  5. And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.
  1. 주님께서는 발람을 만나셔서, 그의 입에 말씀을 넣어 주시면서 발락에게로 돌아가서 그대로 말하라고 하셨다.
  2. 발람이 발락에게로 와서 보니, 발락이 번제물 곁에 그대로 서 있었다. 모압의 고관들도 그와 함께 있었다. 발락이 그에게 물었다. "주님께서 무슨 말씀을 하셨습니까?"
  3. 발람이 예언을 선포하였다. "발락은 와서 들어라. 십볼의 아들은 나에게 귀를 기울여라.
  4. 하나님은 사람이 아니시다. 거짓말을 하지 아니하신다. 사람의 아들이 아니시니, 변덕을 부리지도 아니하신다. 어찌 말씀하신 대로 하지 아니하시랴? 어찌 약속하신 것을 이루지 아니하시랴?
  5. 나는 축복하라 하시는 명을 받았다. 주님께서 복을 베푸셨으니, 내가 그것을 바꿀 수 없다.
  1. And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.
  2. And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?
  3. And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:
  4. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
  5. Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.
  1. 주님께서는 야곱에게서 아무런 죄도 찾지 못하셨다. 주님께서는 이스라엘에게서 어떤 잘못도 발견하지 못하셨다. 그들의 주 하나님이 그들과 함께 계신다. 주님을 임금으로 떠받드는 소리가 그들에게서 들린다.
  2. 하나님이 그들을 이집트에서 이끌어 내셨다. 그에게는 들소와 같은 힘이 있다.
  3. 야곱에 맞설 마술은 없다. 이스라엘에 맞설 술법도 없다. 이제는 사람들이 야곱과 이스라엘에게 물을 것이다. '하나님이 하신 일이 어찌 그리 크냐?'고.
  4. 보아라, 그 백성이 암사자처럼 일어난다. 그들이 수사자처럼 우뚝 선다. 짐승을 잡아 먹지 아니하고는 짐승을 찔러 그 피를 마시지 아니하고는 눕지 아니할 것이다."
  5. 발락이 발람에게 말하였다. "그들에게 저주도 빌지 말고, 그들에게 복도 빌지 마시오!"
  1. He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.
  2. God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.
  3. Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!
  4. Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.
  5. And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.
  1. 발람이 발락에게 이렇게 대답하였다. "무엇이든 주님께서 내게 말씀하신 것만을 말하겠다고, 내가 말씀드리지 않았습니까?"
  2. 발락이 발람에게 말하였다. "함께 가시기 바랍니다. 내가 당신을 다른 곳으로 데리고 가겠습니다. 하나님 보시기에 올바른 일이면, 거기에서, 나에게 유리하도록 그들을 저주하여 주시기 바랍니다."
  3. 발락은 발람을 광야가 내려다보이는 브올 산 꼭대기로 데리고 갔다.
  4. 발람이 발락에게 말하였다. "저에게 필요하니, 이 곳에다가 제단 일곱을 만들어 주시기 바랍니다. 그리고 저에게 필요하니, 이 곳에다가 수송아지 일곱 마리와 숫양 일곱 마리를 준비하여 주시기 바랍니다."
  5. 그리하여 발락은, 발람이 말한 대로 하였다. 제단마다 수송아지와 숫양을 한 마리씩 바쳤다.

  4. And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.
  5. And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
