- 하나님은, 마음이 정직한 사람과 마음이 정결한 사람에게 선을 베푸시는 분이건만,
- 나는 그 확신을 잃고 넘어질 뻔했구나. 그 믿음을 버리고 미끄러질 뻔했구나.
- 그것은, 내가 거만한 자를 시샘하고, 악인들이 누리는 평안을 부러워했기 때문이다.
- 그들은 죽을 때에도 고통이 없으며, 몸은 멀쩡하고 윤기까지 흐른다.
- 사람들이 흔히들 당하는 그런 고통이 그들에게는 없으며, 사람들이 으레 당하는 재앙도 그들에게는 아예 가까이 가지 않는다.

- Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.
- But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
- For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
- For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.
- They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

- 오만은 그들의 목걸이요, 폭력은 그들의 나들이옷이다.
- 그들은 피둥피둥 살이 쪄서, 거만하게 눈을 치켜 뜨고 다니며, 마음에는 헛된 상상이 가득하며,
- 언제나 남을 비웃으며, 악의에 찬 말을 쏘아붙이고, 거만한 모습으로 폭언하기를 즐긴다.
- 입으로는 하늘을 비방하고, 혀로는 땅을 휩쓸고 다닌다.
- 하나님의 백성마저도 그들에게 홀려서, 물을 들이키듯, 그들이 하는 말을 그대로 받아들여,

- Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.
- Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
- They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.
- They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
- Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

- 덩달아 말한다. "하나님인들 어떻게 알 수 있으랴? 가장 높으신 분이라고 무엇이든 다 알 수가 있으랴?" 하고 말한다.
- 그런데 놀랍게도, 그들은 모두가 악인인데도 신세가 언제나 편하고, 재산은 늘어만 가는구나.
- 이렇다면, 내가 깨끗한 마음으로 살아온 것과 내 손으로 죄를 짓지 않고 깨끗하게 살아온 것이 허사라는 말인가?
- 하나님, 주님께서는 온종일 나를 괴롭히셨으며, 아침마다 나를 벌하셨습니다.

- And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
- Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
- Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.
- For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.
