	열왕기하 6:24-8:29 아람군의 포위로 사마리아 성에 극심한 기근과 참상이 있었다. 그러나 엘리사는 사마리아의 회복과 이를 믿지 않고 조롱하는 관리의 죽음을 예언하였고, 결국 그의 예언은 하나님의 전적인 역사로 그대로 성취되었다. 하사엘은 엘리사의 예언대로 아람 왕 벤하닷을 살해하고 왕위에 올랐다. 한편 여호사밧의 뒤를 이은 유다 왕 여호람과 아하시야는 악정을 행하였다.

	아람의 2차 침입(6:24-7:20)

그러나 그런 일이 있은 지 얼마 뒤에, 시리아 왕 벤하닷이 또다시 전군을 소집하여 올라와서, 사마리아를 포위하였다.

그들이 성을 포위하니, 사마리아 성 안에는 먹거리가 떨어졌다. 그래서 나귀 머리 하나가 은 팔십 세겔에 거래되고, 비둘기 똥 사분의 일 갑이 은 다섯 세겔에 거래되는 형편이었다.

어느 날 이스라엘 왕이 성벽 위를 지나가고 있을 때에, 한 여자가 왕에게 부르짖었다. "높으신 임금님, 저를 좀 살려 주십시오."

왕이 대답하였다. "주님께서 돕지 않으시는데, 내가 어찌 부인을 도울 수가 있겠소? 내가 어찌 타작 마당에서 곡식을 가져다 줄 수가 있겠소, 포도주 틀에서 술을 가져다 줄 수가 있겠소?

도대체 무슨 일로 그러오?" 그 여자가 말하였다. "며칠 전에 이 여자가 저에게 말하기를 '네 아들을 내놓아라. 오늘은 네 아들을 잡아서 같이 먹고, 내일은 내 아들을 잡아서 같이 먹도록 하자' 하였습니다.

And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.

And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?

And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.

그래서 우리는 우선 제 아들을 삶아서, 같이 먹었습니다. 다음날 제가 이 여자에게 '네 아들을 내놓아라. 우리가 잡아서 같이 먹도록 하자' 하였더니, 이 여자가 자기 아들을 숨기고 내놓지 않습니다."

왕은 이 여자의 말을 듣고는, 기가 막혀서 자기의 옷을 찢었다. 왕이 성벽 위를 지나갈 때에 백성들은, 왕이 겉옷 속에 베옷을 입고 있는 것을 보았다.

왕이 저주받을 각오를 하고 결심하여 말하였다. "사밧의 아들 엘리사의 머리가 오늘 그대로 붙어 있다면, 하나님이 나에게 벌 위에 더 벌을 내리신다 하여도 달게 받겠다."

그 때에 엘리사는 원로들과 함께 자기 집에 앉아 있었다. 왕이 전령을 엘리사에게 보냈다. 그 전령이 이르기 전에 엘리사가 원로들에게 말하였다. "여러분은 살인자의 아들이 나의 머리를 베려고 사람을 보낸 것을 알고 계십니까? 전령이 오거든 문을 단단히 걸어 잠그고 그를 들어오지 못하게 하십시오. 그를 보내 놓고 뒤따라 오는 그 주인의 발자국 소리가 벌써 들려 오고 있지 않습니까?"

엘리사가 원로들과 함께 말하고 있는 동안에, 왕이 엘리사에게 와서 말하였다. "우리가 받은 이 모든 재앙을 보시오. 이런 재앙이 주님께로부터 왔는데, 내가 어찌 주님께서 우리를 도와주시기를 기다리겠소?"

So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?

And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

엘리사가 말하였다. "주님의 말씀을 들으십시오. 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하시었습니다. '내일 이맘때 쯤에 사마리아 성문 어귀에서 고운 밀가루 한 스아를 한 세겔에 사고, 보리 두 스아를 한 세겔에 살 수 있을 것이다' 하셨습니다."

그러자 왕을 부축하고 있던 시종무관이 하나님의 사람에게 대답하였다. "비록 주님께서 하늘에 있는 창고 문을 여신다고 할지라도, 어찌 그런 일이 일어날 수 있겠습니까?" 엘리사가 말하였다. "당신은 분명히 그런 일이 생기는 것을 눈으로 직접 볼 것이오. 그렇지만 당신이 그것을 먹지는 못할 것이오."

그 무렵에 나병 환자 네 사람이 성문 어귀에 있었는데, 그들이 서로 말을 주고받았다. "우리가 어찌하여 여기에 앉아서 죽기만을 기다리겠느냐?

성 안으로 들어가 봐도 성 안에는 기근이 심하니, 먹지 못하여 죽을 것이 뻔하고, 그렇다고 여기에 그대로 앉아 있어 봐도 죽을 것이 뻔하다. 그러니 차라리 시리아 사람의 진으로 들어가서 항복하자. 그래서 그들이 우리를 살려 주면 사는 것이고, 우리를 죽이면 죽는 것이다."

그리하여 그들은 황혼 무렵에 일어나서 시리아 진으로 들어갔는데, 시리아 진의 끝까지 가 보았지만, 어찌된 일인지, 그 곳에는 한 사람도 보이지 않았다.

Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?

If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

주님께서 시리아 진의 군인들에게, 병거 소리와 군마 소리와 큰 군대가 쳐들어오는 소리를 듣게 하셨기 때문에, 시리아 군인들은, 이스라엘 왕이 그들과 싸우려고, 헷 족속의 왕들과 이집트의 왕들을 고용하여 자기들에게 쳐들어온다고 생각하고는,

황혼녘에 일어나서, 장막과 군마와 나귀들을 모두 진에 그대로 남겨 놓은 채, 목숨을 건지려고 도망하였던 것이다.

이들 나병 환자들이 적진의 끝까지 갔다가, 한 장막 안으로 들어가서 먹고 마신 뒤에, 은과 금과 옷을 가지고 나와서 숨겨 두고는, 또 다른 장막으로 들어가서 거기에서도 물건을 가지고 나와, 그것도 역시 숨겨 두었다.

그런 다음에 그들은 서로 말하였다. "우리들이 이렇게 하는 것은 올바른 일이 아니다. 오늘은 좋은 소식을 전하는 날이다. 이것을 전하지 않고 내일 아침 해 뜰 때까지 기다린다면, 벌이 오히려 우리에게 내릴 것이다. 그러니 이제 왕궁으로 가서, 이것을 알리도록 하자."

그리하여 그들은 성으로 돌아와, 문지기들을 불러서 알려 주었다. "우리들은 지금 시리아 진에서 오는 길인데, 그 곳엔 사람은커녕 인기척도 없으며, 다만 말과 나귀만 묶여 있을 뿐, 장막도 버려진 채 그대로 있습니다."

For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.

Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king's household.

So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

이 말을 들은 성문지기들은 기뻐 소리치며, 왕궁에 이 사실을 보고하였다.

왕은 밤중에 일어나서 신하들과 의논하였다. "시리아 사람들이 우리에게 이렇게 한 것이 무슨 뜻이겠소. 내 생각에는, 그들이 분명 우리가 못 먹어 허덕이는 줄 알고 진영을 비우고 들에 숨어 있다가, 우리가 성 밖으로 나오면 우리를 생포하고, 이 성 안으로 쳐들어오려고 생각한 것 같소."

그러자 신하 가운데 하나가 의견을 내놓았다. "이 성 안에 아직 남아 있는 다섯 필의 말은, 이 성 안에 남아 있는 이스라엘 모든 사람의 운명과 마찬가지로 어차피 굶어 죽고야 말 것이니, 이 말에 사람을 태워 보내어서, 정찰이나 한번 해 보시는 것이 어떻겠습니까?"

그래서 그들이 말 두 필이 끄는 병거를 끌어내니, 왕은 그들을 시리아 군의 뒤를 쫓아가도록 내보내면서, 가서 알아 보라고 하였다.

그들이 시리아 군대를 뒤따라 요단 강까지 가 보았지만, 길에는 시리아 사람들이 급히 도망치느라 던져 버린 의복과 군 장비만 가득하였다. 군인들은 돌아와서 이 사실을 왕에게 보고하였다.

And he called the porters; and they told it to the king's house within.

And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.

And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.

They took therefore two chariot horses; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.

그러자 백성들은 밖으로 나가서 시리아 진영을 약탈하였다. 그리하여 주님의 말씀대로 고운 밀가루 한 스아를 한 세겔에, 보리 두 스아를 한 세겔에 거래할 수 있게 되었다.

그래서 왕은 자신을 부축한 그 시종무관을, 성문 관리로 임명하였다. 그러나 백성이 성문에서 그를 밟아 죽였는데, 왕이 그의 부축을 받으며 하나님의 사람을 죽이려고 왔을 때에, 하나님의 사람이 예언한 그대로 그가 죽은 것이다.

그 때에 하나님의 사람이 왕에게 말하였다. "내가, 내일 이맘때 쯤이면 사마리아 성 어귀에서는, 보리 두 스아를 한 세겔에, 고운 밀가루 한 스아를 한 세겔에 거래할 것이라고 말하였을 때에,

그 시종무관은 하나님의 사람에게 '비록 주님께서 하늘에 있는 창고 문을 여신다고 할지라도, 어찌 이런 일이 일어날 수 있겠느냐?' 하고 큰소리를 쳤습니다. 그래서 내가 말하기를 '당신은 분명히 그런 일이 생기는 것을 눈으로 직접 볼 것이오. 그렇지만 당신이 그것을 먹지는 못할 것이오' 하고 말하였습니다.

그래서 그에게 이런 일이 일어나게 된 것이며, 그가 성문 어귀에서 백성에게 짓밟혀 죽은 것입니다."

And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

And the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate: and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spake when the king came down to him.

And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be to morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria:

And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.

	수넴 여인의 기업 회복(8:1-8:6)

엘리사가 이전에 한 여인의 죽은 아들을 살려 준 일이 있었는데, 그 아이의 어머니에게 이렇게 말했었다. "부인은 가족을 데리고 이 곳을 떠나서, 가족이 몸붙여 살 만한 곳으로 가서 지내시오. 주님께서 기근을 명하셨기 때문에, 이 땅에 일곱 해 동안 기근이 들 것이오."

그 여인은 하나님의 사람이 한 그 말을 따라서, 온 가족과 함께 일곱 해 동안 블레셋 땅에 가서 몸붙여 살았다.

일곱 해가 다 지나자, 그 여인은 블레셋 땅에서 돌아와서, 자기의 옛 집과 밭을 돌려 달라고 호소하려고 왕에게로 갔다.

마침 그 때에 왕은 하나님의 사람의 시종인 게하시와 이야기를 나누고 있었다. 왕이 게하시에게 엘리사가 한 큰 일들을 말해 달라고 하였다.

그래서 게하시는 왕에게, 엘리사가 죽은 사람을 살려 준 일을 설명하고 있었다. 바로 그 때에 엘리사가 아들을 살려 준 그 여인이 왕에게 와서, 자기의 집과 밭을 돌려 달라고 호소한 것이다. 게하시는 "높으신 임금님, 이 여인이 바로 그 여인입니다. 그리고 이 아이가, 엘리사가 살려 준 바로 그 아들입니다" 하고 말하였다.

Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.

And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.

And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.

And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.

And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.

왕이 그 여인에게 그것이 사실인지를 묻자, 그 여인은 사실대로 왕에게 말하였다. 왕은 신하 한 사람을 불러서, 이 여인의 일을 맡기며 명령을 내렸다. "이 여인의 재산을 모두 돌려 주고, 이 여인이 땅을 떠난 그 날부터 지금까지 그 밭에서 난 소출을 모두 돌려 주어라."

And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.

	하사엘의 등극(8:7-8:29)

엘리사가 다마스쿠스에 갔을 때에 시리아 왕 벤하닷은 병이 들어 있었는데, 어떤 사람이 왕에게 하나님의 사람이 이 곳에 와 있다는 소식을 전하였다.

왕이 하사엘에게 말하였다. "예물을 가지고 가서, 하나님의 사람을 만나시오. 그리고 그에게, 내가 이 병에서 회복될 수 있겠는지를, 주님께 물어 보도록 부탁을 드려 주시오."

하사엘은 다마스쿠스에서 제일 좋은 온갖 예물을 낙타 마흔 마리에 가득 싣고, 몸소 예를 갖추어 하나님의 사람을 만나러 갔다. 그리고 그의 앞에 서서 말하였다. "예언자님의 아들 같은 시리아 왕 벤하닷이 나를 예언자님에게 보냈습니다. 왕은, 자신이 이 병에서 회복되겠는가를 여쭈어 보라고 하였습니다."

엘리사가 그에게 말하였다. "가서, 왕에게는 회복될 것이라고 말하시오. 그러나 주님께서는, 그가 반드시 죽을 것이라고 내게 계시해 주셨소."

그런 다음에 하나님의 사람은, 하사엘이 부끄러워 민망할 정도로 얼굴을 쳐다 보다가, 마침내 울음을 터뜨렸다.

And Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither.

And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and enquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?

So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Benhadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?

And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the LORD hath shewed me that he shall surely die.

And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept.

그러자 하사엘이 "예언자님, 왜 우십니까?" 하고 물었다. 엘리사는 다음과 같이 말하였다. "나는, 그대가 이스라엘 자손에게 어떤 악한 일을 할지를 알기 때문이오. 그대는 이스라엘 자손의 요새에 불을 지를 것이고, 젊은이들을 칼로 살해하며, 어린 아이들을 메어쳐 죽일 것이고, 임신한 여인의 배를 가를 것이오."

하사엘이 물었다. "그러나 개보다 나을 것이 없는 나 같은 사람이, 어떻게 그런 엄청난 일을 저지를 수 있겠습니까?" 그러자 엘리사가 말하였다. "주님께서, 그대가 시리아 왕이 될 것을 나에게 계시하여 주셨소."

그는 엘리사를 떠나서 왕에게로 돌아갔다. 벤하닷 왕이 그에게 물었다. "엘리사가 그대에게 무엇이라고 말하였소?" 그가 대답하였다. "엘리사는, 왕께서 틀림없이 회복될 것이라고 말하였습니다."

그 다음날, 하사엘은 담요를 물에 적셔서 벤하닷의 얼굴을 덮어, 그를 죽였다. 하사엘이 벤하닷의 뒤를 이어 시리아의 왕이 되었다.

이스라엘 왕 아합의 아들 요람 제 오년에 여호사밧이 아직도 유다의 왕일 때에, 여호사밧의 아들 여호람이 다스리기 시작하였다.

And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.

And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The LORD hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.

So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.

And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Je hoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.

그는 서른두 살에 왕이 되어, 여덟 해 동안 예루살렘에서 다스렸다.

그는 아합의 딸을 아내로 맞아들였기 때문에, 아합 가문이 한 대로, 이스라엘 왕들이 간 길을 갔다. 이와 같이 하여, 그는 주님 보시기에 악한 일을 하였다.

그러나 주님께서는 자기의 종 다윗을 생각하셔서 유다를 멸망시키려고는 하지 않으셨다. 주님께서는 이미 다윗과 그의 자손에게서 왕조의 등불이 영원히 꺼지지 않게 하시겠다고 약속하셨기 때문이다.

여호람이 다스린 시대에, 에돔이 유다의 통치에 반기를 들고 자기들의 왕을 따로 세웠다.

그래서 여호람은 모든 병거를 출동시켜 사일로 건너갔다가, 그만 에돔 군대에게 포위를 당하고 말았다. 그러나 여호람은 병거대장들과 함께, 밤에 에돔 군대의 포위망을 뚫고 빠져 나왔다. 군인들은 모두 흩어져 각자의 집으로 갔다.

Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the LORD.

Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.

In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.

So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.

이와 같이 에돔은 유다에 반역하여 그 지배를 벗어나 오늘날까지 이르렀고, 그 때에 립나 역시 반역을 일으켰다.

여호람의 나머지 행적과 그가 한 모든 일은 '유다 왕 역대지략'에 기록되어 있다.

여호람이 죽어, 그의 조상과 함께 '다윗 성'에 장사되었다. 그의 아들 아하시야가 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.

이스라엘의 아합 왕의 아들 요람 제 십이년에 여호람의 아들 아하시야가 유다 왕이 되었다.

Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.

And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.

Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.

그는 아합 가문의 사위였으므로, 아합 가문의 길을 걸었으며, 아합 가문처럼 주님 보시기에 악한 일을 하였다.

요람 왕이 시리아 왕 하사엘과 싸우다가, 라마에서 시리아 사람들에게 입은 상처를 치료하려고 이스르엘로 돌아갔다. 그 때에 아합의 아들 요람이 병이 들었으므로, 여호람의 아들인 유다의 아하시야 왕이, 문병을 하려고 이스르엘로 내려갔다.

And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.

And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramothgilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.

And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
