- "동포 여러분, 내가 이제 여러분에게 드리는 해명을 잘 들어 주시기 바랍니다."
- 군중들은 바울이 히브리 말로 연설하는 것을 듣고, 더욱더 조용해졌다. 바울은 말을 이었다.
- "나는 유대 사람입니다. 나는 길리기아의 다소에서 태어나서, 이 도시 예루살렘에서 자랐고, 가말리엘 선생의 문하에서 우리 조상의 율법의 엄격한 방식을 따라 교육을 받았습니다. 그래서 나는 오늘날 여러분 모두가 그러하신 것과 같이, 하나님께 열성적인 사람이었습니다.
- 나는 이 '도'를 따르는 사람들을 박해하여 죽이기까지 하였고, 남자든 여자든 가리지 않고 묶어서 감옥에 넣었습니다.
- 내 말이 사실임을 대제사장과 모든 장로가 증언하실 것입니다. 나는 그들에게서 다마스쿠스에 있는 동포들에게 보내는 공문을 받아서, 다마스쿠스로 길을 떠났습니다. 나는 거기에 있는 신도들까지 잡아서 예루살렘으로 끌어다가, 처벌을 받게 하려고 했던 것입니다."

- Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.
- (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)
- I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
- And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
- As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

- "가다가, 정오 때쯤에 다마스쿠스 가까이에 이르렀는데, 갑자기 하늘로부터 큰 빛이 나를 둘러 비추었습니다.
- 나는 땅바닥에 엎어졌는데 '사울아, 사울아, 네가 어찌하여 나를 핍박하느냐?' 하는 소리가 들려왔습니다.
- 그래서 내가 '주님, 누구십니까?' 하고 물었더니, 그는 나에게 대답하시기를 '나는 네가 핍박하는 나사렛 예수이다' 하셨습니다.
- 나와 함께 있는 사람들은, 그 빛은 보았으나, 내게 말씀하시는 분의 음성은 듣지 못하였습니다.
- 그 때에 내가 '주님, 어떻게 하라 하십니까?' 하고 말하였더니, 주님께서 내게 말씀하셨습니다. '일어나서, 다마스쿠스로 가거라. 거기에는 네가 해야 할 모든 일을 누가 말해 줄 것이다.'

- And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.
- And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
- And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.
- And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.
- And I said, What shall I do, LORD? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

- 나는 그 빛의 광채 때문에 눈이 멀어서, 함께 가던 사람들의 손에 이끌려 다마스쿠스로 갔습니다.
- 거기에 아나니아라는 사람이 있었습니다. 그는 율법을 따라 사는 경건한 사람으로, 거기에 사는 모든 유대 사람에게 칭찬을 받는 사람이었습니다.
- 그가 나를 찾아와 곁에 서서, '형제 사울이여, 눈을 뜨시오' 하고 나에게 말하였습니다. 그 순간에 나는 시력을 회복하여, 그를 쳐다보았습니다.
- 그때에 아나니아가 내게 말하였습니다. '우리 조상의 하나님께서 당신을 택하셔서, 자기의 뜻을 알게 하시고, 그 의로우신 분을 보게 하시고, 그분의 입에서 나오는 음성을 듣게 하셨습니다.
- 당신은 그분을 위하여 모든 사람에게 당신이 보고 들은 것을 증언하는 증인이 될 것입니다.

- And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.
- And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,
- Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
- And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.
- For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

- 그러니 이제 망설일 까닭이 어디 있습니까? 일어나, 주님의 이름을 불러서, 세례를 받고, 당신의 죄 씻음을 받으시오.'"
- "그 뒤에 내가 예루살렘으로 돌아와서, 성전에서 기도하는 가운데 황홀경에 빠져
- 주님이 내게 말씀하시는 것을 보았습니다. 그는 말씀하시기를 '서둘러서 예루살렘을 떠나라. 예루살렘 사람들이 나에 관한 네 증언을 받아들이지 않을 것이기 때문이다' 하셨습니다.
- 그래서 내가 말하였습니다. '주님, 내가 주님을 믿는 사람들을 가는 곳마다 회당에서 잡아 가두고 때리고 하던 사실을 사람들이 잘 알고 있습니다.
- 그리고 주님의 증언자인 스데반이 피를 흘리고 죽임을 당할 때에, 나도 곁에 서서, 그 일에 찬동하면서, 그를 죽이는 사람들의 옷을 지키고 있었습니다.'

- And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
- And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;
- And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.
- And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
- And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

- 그 때에 주님께서 말씀하시기를 '가라. 내가 너를 멀리 이방 사람들에게로 보내겠다' 하셨습니다."

- And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.
