- 나는 어리석은 사람이 되어버렸습니다. 여러분이 나를 억지로 그렇게 만들었습니다. 그러나 여러분은 나를 인정해 주었어야 마땅합니다. 내가 비록 보잘것없는 사람일지라도, 저 우두머리 사도들보다 부족한 것이 하나도 없습니다.
- 나는 여러분 가운데서 일일이 참고 견디면서, 놀라운 일과 기적을 표징으로 삼아 사도가 된 표징을 행하였습니다.
- 내가 여러분에게 폐를 끼치지 않았다는 것을 제외하고 여러분이 다른 교회들보다 못난 점이 무엇입니까? 이렇게 한 것이 불공평한 처사라고 하면, 용서하여 주시기 바랍니다.
- 지금 나는 이렇게 세 번째로 여러분에게로 갈 준비가 되어 있습니다. 그러나 여러분에게 폐를 끼치는 일은 하지 않겠습니다. 내가 구하는 것은 여러분의 재물이 아니라 바로 여러분입니다. 자식이 부모를 위하여 재산을 모아 두는 것이 아니라, 부모가 자식을 위하여 재산을 모아 두는 것이 마땅한 것입니다.
- 여러분을 위해서라면 나는 기쁜 마음으로 비용을 쓰겠고, 내 몸까지도 희생하겠습니다. 내가 여러분을 더 많이 사랑하면 할수록, 여러분은 나를 덜 사랑하겠습니까?

- I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
- Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.
- For what is it wherein ye were inferior to other churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome to you? forgive me this wrong.
- Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not your's but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

- 어쨌든 나는 여러분에게 짐이 된 일은 없습니다. 그런데 내가 간교한 속임수로 여러분을 사로잡았다고 말하는 사람들도 있습니다.
- 내가 여러분에게 보낸 사람들 가운데 누구를 통해서 여러분을 착취한 일이 있습니까?
- 내가 디도에게 여러분에게로 가라고 권하였고, 또 그와 함께 형제 한 사람을 보냈는데, 디도가 여러분을 착취한 일이 있습니까? 디도와 내가 같은 정신으로 행하고, 같은 방식으로 살지 않았다는 말입니까?
- 아마도 여러분은, 우리가 지금까지 여러분에게 자기 변명을 하고 있는 줄로 생각할 것입니다. 그러나 우리는 그리스도를 믿는 사람으로서 하나님 앞에서 말하는 것입니다. 사랑하는 교우 여러분, 이 모든 것은 여러분에게 덕이 되게 하려는 것입니다.
- 내가 두려워하는 것은, 내가 가서 여러분을 만나볼 때에, 여러분이 혹시 내 기대에 어긋나지 않을까 하는 것과, 또 내가 여러분의 기대에 어긋나지 않을까 하는 것입니다. 또 여러분 가운데에 싸움과 시기와 분노와 경쟁심과 비방과 수군거림과 교만과 무질서가 있지나 않을까 두렵습니다.

- 내가 여러분에게 다시 갈 때에, 여러분 때문에 내 하나님께 내가 부끄러움을 당하지나 않을까 걱정이 됩니다. 또 내가, 전에 죄를 지은 많은 사람들이 스스로 행한 부정함과 음란함과 방탕함을 회개하지 않는 것을 보고서, 슬피 울게 되지나 않을까 걱정이 됩니다.

- And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.
