- 주님께서 예레미야에게,
- 주님의 성전 문에 서서, 주님께 예배하려고 문으로 들어오는 모든 유다 사람에게 주님의 말씀을 큰소리로 일러주라고 하셨다.
- "나 만군의 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 말한다. 너희의 모든 생활과 행실을 고쳐라. 그러면 내가 이 곳에서 너희와 함께 머물러 살겠다.
- '이것이 주님의 성전이다, 주님의 성전이다, 주님의 성전이다' 하고 속이는 말을, 너희는 의지하지 말아라.
- 너희가, 모든 생활과 행실을 참으로 바르게 고치고, 참으로 이웃끼리 서로 정직하게 살면서,

- The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
- Stand in the gate of the LORD's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.
- Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
- Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.
- For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

- 나그네와 고아와 과부를 억압하지 않고, 이 곳에서 죄 없는 사람을 살해하지 않고, 다른 신들을 섬겨 스스로 재앙을 불러들이지 않으면,
- 내가 너희 조상에게 영원무궁 하도록 준 이 땅, 바로 이 곳에서 너희가 머물러 살도록 하겠다.
- 그런데도 너희는 지금 전혀 무익한 거짓말을 의지하고 있다.
- 너희는 모두 도둑질을 하고, 사람을 죽이고, 음행을 하고, 거짓으로 맹세를 하고, 바알에게 분향을 하고, 너희가 알지 못하는 다른 신들을 섬긴다.
- 너희는 이처럼 내가 미워하는 일만 저지르고서도, 내 이름으로 불리는 이 성전으로 들어와서, 내 앞에 서서 '우리는 안전하다' 하고 말한다. 너희는 그런 역겨운 모든 일들을 또 되풀이하고 싶어서 그렇게 말한다.

- If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:
- Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.
- Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.
- Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;
- And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

- 그래, 내 이름으로 불리는 이 성전이, 너희의 눈에는 도둑들이 숨는 곳으로 보이느냐? 여기에서 벌어진 온갖 악을 나도 똑똑히 다 보았다. 나 주의 말이다.
- 너희는 내가 처음으로 내 이름을 두었던 실로에 있는 내 처소로 가서, 내 백성 이스라엘의 죄악 때문에 내가 그 곳을 어떻게 하였는지 보아라.
- 너희가 온갖 죄를 지었으므로, 내가 너희에게 서둘러서 경고하였으나, 너희는 듣지 않았다. 내가 불렀으나, 너희는 대답도 하지 않았다. 나 주의 말이다.
- 그러므로 내가 실로에서 한 것과 똑같이, 내 이름으로 불리며 너희가 의지하는 이 성전, 곧 내가 너희와 너희 조상에게 준 이 장소에, 내가 똑같이 하겠다.
- 내가 너희의 모든 친척 곧 에브라임 자손 모두를 내 앞에서 쫓아 버렸던 것과 똑같이, 너희도 내 앞에서 멀리 쫓아 버리겠다."

- Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.
- But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
- And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;
- Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
- And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

- "그러므로 너 예레미야는 이 백성을 보살펴 달라고 기도하지 말아라. 너는 그들을 도와달라고 나에게 호소하거나 간구하지도 말고, 나에게 조르지도 말아라. 나는 이제 너의 말을 들어주지 않을 것이다.
- 너는 지금 그들이 유다의 성읍들과 예루살렘의 모든 거리에서 하는 일들을 보고 있지 않느냐?
- 자식들은 땔감을 줍고, 아버지들은 불을 피우고, 어머니들은 하늘 여신에게 줄 빵을 만들려고 가루로 반죽을 하고 있다. 또 그들은 나의 노를 격동시키려고, 다른 신들에게 술을 부어 바친다.
- 그러나 그들이 그렇게 함으로 나를 격노하게 하는 것으로 그치느냐? 그렇지 않다. 오히려 그들 스스로가 낯뜨거운 수치를 당하는 것이 아니냐? 나 주의 말이다.
- 그러므로 나 주 하나님이 말한다. 나의 무서운 분노가 바로 이 땅으로 쏟아져서, 사람과 짐승과 들의 나무와 땅의 열매 위로 쏟아져서, 꺼지지 않고 탈 것이다."

- Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.
- Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
- The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
- Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
- Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

- "나 만군의 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 말한다. 내가 너희에게 받고 싶은 것은 제사가 아니다. 너희가 번제는 다 태워 내게 바치고 다른 제물은 너희가 먹는다고 하지만, 내가 허락할 터이니, 번제든 무슨 제사든 고기는 다 너희들이나 먹어라.
- 내가 너희 조상을 이집트 땅에서 데리고 나왔을 때에, 내가 그들에게 번제물이나 다른 어떤 희생제물을 바치라고 했더냐? 바치라고 명령이라도 했더냐?
- 오직 내가 명한 것은 나에게 순종하라는 것, 그러면 내가 그들의 하나님이 되고, 그들은 나의 백성이 될 것이라는 것, 내가 그들에게 명하는 그 길로만 걸어가면, 그들이 잘 될 것이라고 한 것뿐이지 않았더냐?
- 그러나 그들은 내게 순종하지도 않고, 내 말에 귀를 기울이지도 않았다. 오히려 자기들의 악한 마음에서 나오는 온갖 계획과 어리석은 고집대로 살고, 얼굴을 나에게로 돌리지 않고, 오히려 등을 나에게서 돌렸다.
- 너희 조상이 이집트 땅에서 나온 날로부터 오늘까지, 내가 나의 종 예언자들을 너희에게 보내고 또 보냈지만,

- Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.
- For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:
- But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
- But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.
- Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

- 나에게 순종하지도 않고, 귀를 기울이지도 않았다. 오히려 너희는 조상보다도 더 고집이 세고 악하였다."
- "그래서 네가 그들에게 이 모든 말을 전하더라도, 그들은 여전히 듣지 않을 것이다. 또 네가 그들에게 외치더라도, 그들이 너에게 아무런 반응도 보이지 않을 것이다.
- 그들은 자기들의 하나님인 나 주의 말에 순종하지도 않고, 어떤 교훈도 받아들이지 않는 백성이다. 진실이 아주 없어졌다. 그들의 입에서 진실이 사라진지 이미 오래다. 그러므로 너는 그들에게 이렇게 전하여라.
- '예루살렘아, 너는 긴 머리채를 잘라서 던지고, 메마른 언덕 위에 올라가서 슬피 울어라. 주님께서는 이 세대를 보시고 진노하셔서, 이 세대를 물리쳐 버리셨다.'"
- "나 주의 말이다. 참으로 유다 백성은, 내가 보기에 악한 일들을 하였다. 그들은, 나의 이름을 찬양하려고 세운 성전 안에다가, 자기들이 섬기는 역겨운 것들을 세워 놓아서 성전을 더럽혔다.

- Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.
- Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.
- But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
- Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
- For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.

- 또 그들은 자기들의 아들과 딸들을 불태워 제물로 바치려고 '힌놈의 아들 골짜기'에 도벳이라는 산당을 쌓아 놓았는데, 그런 것은 내가 명하지도 않았고, 상상조차도 하여 본 적이 없다.
- 그러므로 보아라, 그 날이 오면, 다시는 이 곳을 도벳이나 '힌놈의 아들 골짜기'라고 부르지 않고, 오히려 '살육의 골짜기'라고 부를 것이다. 나 주의 말이다. 그 때에는 매장할 자리가 더 이상 없어서, 사람들이 도벳에 와서 시체를 묻을 것이다.
- 그 때에는 이 백성의 시체가 공중의 새와 땅에 사는 짐승의 먹이가 될 것이며, 아무도 그것을 쫓아 줄 사람이 없을 것이다.
- 그 때에는 내가 유다의 성읍들과 예루살렘의 모든 거리에서, 흥겨워하는 소리와 기뻐하는 소리, 즐거워하는 신랑 신부의 목소리를 사라지게 하겠다. 온 나라가 황무지로 바뀔 것이기 때문이다."

- And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.
- Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.
- And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.
- Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.
