예레미야 11:1-12:17

 예레미야는 유다에게 임하게 된 형벌의 원인이 시내 산에서 맺은 언약을 어겼기 때문이라고 지적하여 백성들로부터 목숨의 위협을 받게 되었다. 이에 기도로 이 사실을 고하며 악한 백성들의 형통함을 항변한 예레미야에게 하나님께서는 죄의 형벌로 유다를 버리신 후 다시 회복시키실 것임을 말씀하셨다.
  
  언약에 근거한 형벌(11:1-11:17)    
 
  1. 이것은 주님께서 예레미야에게 하신 말씀이다.
  2. "이 언약의 말을 듣고, 유다 사람과 예루살렘 주민에게 선포하여라.
  3. 그들에게 이렇게 전하여라. 나 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 말한다. '이 언약의 말에 순종하지 않는 사람은 저주를 받을 것이다.
  4. 이 언약은, 쇠를 녹이는 용광로와 같은 이집트 땅에서 너희 조상을 데리고 나올 때에, 내가 그들에게 지키라고 명한 것이다. 내가 그들에게 이르기를, 나에게 순종하고, 내가 명하는 모든 것을 실천하면 그들은 나의 백성이 되고, 나는 그들의 하나님이 되어서,
  5. 내가 그들의 조상에게 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅을 주겠다고 맹세한 약속을 지키겠다고 하여, 오늘에 이르렀다.'" 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하실 때에, 나는 "주님, 참으로 그렇습니다" 하고 대답하였다.
  1. The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD saying,
  2. Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
  3. And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,
  4. Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
  5. That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
  1. 그런 다음에, 주님께서 나에게 또 말씀하셨다. "너는 이 모든 말을 유다의 여러 성읍과 예루살렘의 거리에서 외쳐라. '너희는 이 언약의 말씀을 듣고 실천하여라.
  2. 이것은 내가 너희 조상을 이집트 땅에서 데리고 나온 날에 확실히 경고하였고, 나에게 순종하라는 것을 오늘에 이르기까지 거듭거듭 경고하였기 때문이다.
  3. 그러나 그들은 듣지도 않고, 귀를 기울이지도 않았다. 오히려 그들은 자기들의 악한 마음에서 나오는 고집대로 살았다. 그래서 나는 지키라고 명한 이 모든 언약의 말씀대로 그들에게 벌을 내린 것이다. 그런데도 그들은 지키지 않았다.'"
  4. 주님께서 또 나에게 말씀하셨다. "유다 사람과 예루살렘 주민이 나를 대적하여 음모를 꾸미고 있다.
  5. 그들도 자기들의 옛 조상이 저지른 죄악으로 되돌아가고 말았다. 그 조상이 나의 말을 들으려 하지 않고, 다른 신들을 쫓아다니면서 섬기더니, 이제는 이스라엘 백성과 유다 백성도, 내가 그들의 조상과 맺은 언약을 파기하였다.
  1. Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
  2. For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
  3. Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do: but they did them not.
  4. And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
  5. They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
  1. 그러므로 나 주가 말한다. 보아라, 그들이 벗어날 수 없는 재앙을, 내가 그들에게 내리겠다. 그들이 나에게 도움을 간청해도, 내가 응답하지 않겠다.
  2. 그 때에 유다의 여러 성읍에 사는 사람과 예루살렘 주민은, 분향하며 섬기던 신들을 찾아가서 도움을 간청하겠지만, 그 재앙의 날에 그 신들은 절대로 그들을 구하여 주지 못할 것이다. 전혀 도와줄 수 없을 것이다.
  3. 유다 사람들아, 너희가 섬기는 신들은 너희가 사는 성읍 수만큼이나 많고, 너희가 바알에게 분향하려고 세운 그 부끄러운 제단은 예루살렘의 골목길 수만큼이나 많구나!
  4. 예레미야야, 너는 이런 백성을 보살펴 달라고 나에게 기도하지 말아라. 너는, 그들을 도와 달라고 나에게 호소하거나 간구하지 말아라. 그들이 재앙을 당할 때에, 네가 나에게 부르짖어도, 내가 들어주지 않겠다."
  5. "내가 사랑하는 유다가 악한 음모나 꾸미더니, 내 성전에 들어와서 어쩌자는 것이냐? 살진 짐승을 희생제물로 바친다고 해서, 재난을 피할 수 있겠느냐? 구원의 기쁨을 누릴 수 있겠느냐?
  1. Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
  2. Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
  3. For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.
  4. Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.
  5. What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
  1. 유다야, 한때에 나 주도 너를 '잎이 무성하고 열매가 많이 달린 올리브 나무'라고 불렀으나, 이제는 요란한 천둥소리와 함께 내가 그 잎을 불로 사르고, 그 가지를 부러뜨리겠다."
  2. 이스라엘과 유다를 나무처럼 심어 주신 만군의 주님께서, 너희에게 재앙을 선포하셨다. "이스라엘 백성과 유다 백성은, 내 마음을 상하게 하려고 바알에게 분향하였으니, 저지른 그 죄악 때문에 그들에게 재앙을 내리겠다."
  1. The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.
  2. For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.
 
  예레미야 살해 음모(11:18-11:23)    
 
  1. 주님께서 저에게 알려 주셔서, 제가 깨닫게 되었습니다. 그 때에 주님께서 그들의 모든 행실을 저에게 보여 주셨습니다.
  2. 저는 도살장으로 끌려가는 순한 어린 양과 같았습니다. 사람들이 저를 해치려고 "저 나무를, 열매가 달린 그대로 찍어 버리자. 사람 사는 세상에서 없애 버리자. 그의 이름을 다시는 기억하지 못하게 하자" 하면서 음모를 꾸미고 있는 줄을 전혀 몰랐습니다.
  3. 그러나 만군의 주님, 주님은 의로운 재판관이시요, 사람의 생각과 마음을 감찰하시는 분이십니다. 저의 억울한 사정을 주님께 아뢰었으니, 주님께서 제 원수를 그들에게 갚아 주십시오. 제가 그것을 보기를 원합니다.
  4. 그러므로 주님께서 아나돗 사람들을 두고서 이렇게 말씀하신다. "그들이 너의 목숨을 노려서 이르기를 '너는 주님의 이름으로 예언하지 말아라. 주님의 이름으로 예언을 계속하다가는 우리 손에 죽을 줄 알아라' 한다.
  5. 그러므로 나 만군의 주가 말한다. 내가 그들을 벌할 것이니, 그들의 장정들은 칼에 찔려 죽고, 그들의 아들과 딸들은 굶어 죽을 것이다.
  1. And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.
  2. But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
  3. But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
  4. Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:
  5. Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:
  1. 내가 아나돗 사람들을 벌할 때가 되어 그들에게 재앙을 내리면, 그들 가운데서 살아 남을 자가 하나도 없을 것이다."
  1. And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.
 
  항변과 답변(12:1-12:17)    
 
  1. 주님, 제가 주님과 변론할 때마다, 언제나 주님이 옳으셨습니다. 그러므로 주님께 공정성 문제 한 가지를 여쭙겠습니다. 어찌하여 악인들이 형통하며, 배신자들이 모두 잘 되기만 합니까?
  2. 주님께서 그들을, 나무를 심듯이 심으셨으므로, 뿌리를 내리고 자라며, 열매도 맺으나, 말로만 주님과 가까울 뿐, 속으로는 주님과 멀리 떨어져 있습니다.
  3. 그러나 주님, 주님께서는 저를 아십니다. 주님은 저의 속을 들여다보시고, 저의 마음이 주님과 함께 있음을 감찰하여 알고 계십니다. 그러므로 그들을 도살할 양처럼 끌어내시고, 죽일 날을 정하셔서 따로 갈라내 두십시오.
  4. 이 땅이 언제까지 슬퍼하며, 들녘의 모든 풀이 말라 죽어야 합니까? 이 땅에 사는 사람의 죄악 때문에, 짐승과 새도 씨가 마르게 되었습니다. 사람들은 자기들이 무슨 일을 하든지, 하나님께서 내려다보시지 않는다고 말하고 있습니다.
  5. "네가 사람과 달리기를 해도 피곤하면, 어떻게 말과 달리기를 하겠느냐? 네가 조용한 땅에서만 안전하게 살 수 있다면, 요단 강의 창일한 물 속에서는 어찌하겠느냐?
  1. Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously?
  2. Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.
  3. But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
  4. How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.
  5. If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?
  1. 그렇다. 바로 네 친척, 네 집안 식구가 너를 배신하고, 바로 그들이 네 뒤에서 소리를 질러 너를 욕한다. 그러므로 그들이 너에게 다정하게 말을 걸어와도, 너는 그들을 믿지 말아라."
  2. "나는 내 집을 버렸다. 내 소유로 택한 내 백성을 포기하였다. 내가 진정으로 사랑한 백성을 바로 그들의 원수에게 넘겨 주었다.
  3. 내 소유로 택한 내 백성이 내게 반항하였다. 숲 속의 사자처럼, 내게 으르렁거리며 덤벼들었다.
  4. 내 소유로 택한 내 백성은 사나운 매들에게 둘러싸인 새와 같다. 모든 들짐승아, 어서 모여라. 몰려와서, 이 새를 뜯어먹어라."
  5. "이방 통치자들이 내 포도원을 망쳐 놓았고, 내 농장을 짓밟아 버렸다. 그들은 내가 아끼는 밭을 사막으로 만들어 버렸다.
  1. For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.
  2. I have forsaken mine house, I have left mine heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.
  3. Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I hated it.
  4. Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.
  5. Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.
  1. 그들이 내 땅을 황무지로 바꾸어 놓았다. 황무지가 된 이 땅이 나를 보고 통곡한다. 온 땅이 이렇게 황무지가 되었는데도, 걱정하는 사람이 하나도 없구나.
  2. 강도 떼가 사막의 모든 언덕을 넘어서 몰려왔다. 내가, 땅 이 끝에서 저 끝까지 칼로 휩쓸어, 어느 누구도 평온하게 살 수 없게 하였다.
  3. 사람들이 밀을 심어도 가시만을 거두었고, 그들이 수고해도 아무런 소득이 없었다. 그들은 나의 맹렬한 분노 때문에, 아무런 소출도 없이 수치만 당하였다."
  4. "나 주가 말한다. 내가 내 백성 이스라엘에게 유산으로 준 땅을 침범한, 모든 악한 이웃 백성을 두고 말한다. 내가 그 악한 백성들을 그들의 고향 땅에서 쫓아내고, 유다 백성을 그들 가운데서 구하여 내겠다.
  5. 그러나 내가 그들을 쫓아낸 다음에는, 다시 그들을 불쌍히 여겨서, 제 땅, 제 고향으로 되돌려 보내겠다.
  1. They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.
  2. The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.
  3. They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the LORD.
  4. Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.
  5. And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.
  1. 비록 그들이 내 백성에게, 바알의 이름을 부르며 맹세하도록 가르쳤지만, 그들이 내 백성의 도를 확실하게 배우고, 내 이름을 부르며 '주님의 살아 계심을 두고' 맹세하면, 그들도 내 백성 가운데 들게 될 것이다.
  2. 그러나 그들이 복종하지 않으면, 내가 그 민족을 완전히 뿌리째 뽑아 멸망시키겠다. 나 주의 말이다."
  1. And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The LORD liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.
  2. But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the LORD.
