- 내가 무슨 말을 더 하겠습니까? 기드온, 바락, 삼손, 입다, 다윗, 사무엘, 그리고 예언자들의 일을 말하려면, 시간이 모자랄 것입니다.
- 그들은 믿음으로 나라들을 정복하고, 정의를 실천하고, 약속된 것을 받고, 사자의 입을 막고,
- 불의 위력을 꺾고, 칼날을 피하고, 약한 데서 강해지고, 전쟁에서 용맹을 떨치고, 외국 군대를 물리쳤습니다.
- 믿음으로 여자들은 죽었다가 부활한 가족을 다시 맞이하였습니다. 또 어떤 이들은 고문을 당하면서도 더 좋은 부활의 삶을 얻고자 하여, 구태여 놓여나기를 바라지 않았습니다.
- 또 어떤 이들은 조롱을 받기도 하고, 채찍으로 맞기도 하고, 심지어는 결박을 당하기도 하고, 감옥에 갇히기까지 하면서 시련을 겪었습니다.

- And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
- Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.
- Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
- Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
- And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

- 또 그들은 돌로 맞기도 하고, 톱질을 당하기도 하고, 칼에 맞아 죽기도 하였습니다. 그들은 궁핍을 당하며, 고난을 겪으며, 학대를 받으면서, 양과 염소의 가죽을 입고 떠돌았습니다.
- 세상은 이런 사람들을 받아들일 만한 곳이 못 되었습니다. 그래서 그들은 광야와 산과 동굴과 땅굴을 헤매며 다녔습니다.
- 이 사람들은 모두 믿음으로 말미암아 훌륭한 사람이라는 평판은 받았지만, 약속된 것을 받지는 못하였습니다.
- 하나님께서 우리를 위하여 더 좋은 계획을 미리 세워두셔서, 우리가 없이는 그들이 완성에 이르지 못하게 하신 것입니다.

- They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
- (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
- And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
- God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
