- 도가니는 은을, 화덕은 금을 단련하지만, 주님께서는 사람의 마음을 단련하신다.
- 악을 행하는 사람은 사악한 말에 솔깃하고, 거짓말을 하는 사람은 중상하는 말에 귀를 기울인다.
- 가난한 사람을 조롱하는 것은 그를 지으신 분을 모욕하는 것이다. 남의 재앙을 기뻐하는 사람은 형벌을 면하지 못한다.
