- 야곱은 마리아의 남편 요셉을 낳았다. 마리아에게서 그리스도라고 하는 예수가 태어나셨다.
- 그러므로 그 모든 대 수는 아브라함으로부터 다윗까지 열네 대요, 다윗으로부터 바빌론에 끌려갈 때까지 열네 대요, 바빌론으로 끌려간 때로부터 그리스도까지 열네 대이다.
- 예수 그리스도의 태어나심은 이러하다. 그의 어머니 마리아가 요셉과 약혼하고 나서, 같이 살기 전에, 마리아가 성령으로 잉태한 사실이 드러났다.
- 마리아의 남편 요셉은 의로운 사람이라서 약혼자에게 부끄러움을 주지 않으려고, 가만히 파혼하려 하였다.

- Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.
- And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly.
- But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

- 마리아가 아들을 낳을 것이니, 너는 그 이름을 예수라고 하여라. 그가 자기 백성을 그들의 죄에서 구원하실 것이다."
- 이 모든 일이 일어난 것은, 주님께서 예언자를 시켜서 이르시기를,
- "보아라, 동정녀가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 것이니, 그의 이름을 임마누엘이라고 할 것이다" 하신 말씀을 이루려고 하신 것이다. （임마누엘은 번역하면 '하나님이 우리와 함께 계시다'는 뜻이다.）
- 요셉은 잠에서 깨어 일어나서, 주님의 천사가 말한 대로, 마리아를 아내로 맞아들였다.
- 그러나 아들을 낳을 때까지는 아내와 잠자리를 같이하지 않았다. 아들이 태어나니, 요셉은 그 이름을 예수라고 하였다.

- "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."
- Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
- "BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, "GOD WITH US."
- And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife,
- but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.
