여호수아 8:1-9:27

 여호수아는 하나님의 명령을 받고 재차 아이 성을 공격하여 점령하였다. 이 때 여호수아는 에발 산에 단을 쌓고 하나님께 제사를 드린 후 에발 산과 그리심 산에서 축복과 저주를 선포했다. 그 후 이스라엘은 하나님께 묻지 않고 기브온 사람들과 화친 동맹을 맺는 실수를 범하고 말았다. 나중에 기브온이 속였다는 것을 알게 된 이스라엘은 그들에게 장작을 패며 물긷는 일을 시켰다.
  
  아이 성 함락(8:1-8:35)    
 
  1. 주님께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "두려워하지 말아라! 겁내지 말아라! 군인들을 다 동원하여 아이 성으로 쳐올라가거라. 보아라, 내가 아이의 왕과 백성과 성읍과 땅을 다 네 손에 넘겨 주었다.
  2. 너는 아이 성과 그 왕에게도 여리고와 그 왕에게 한 것처럼 하고, 오직 전리품과 가축은 너희가 가져라. 성 뒤쪽에 군인들을 매복시켜라."
  3. 여호수아가 군인들을 다 동원하여, 아이 성으로 쳐올라갔다. 여호수아는 용사 삼만 명을 뽑아 밤을 틈타 보내면서,
  4. 그들에게 명령을 내렸다. "너희들은 성 뒤로 가서, 성에서 너무 멀지 않은 곳에 매복하고, 모두들 공격할 준비를 갖추어라.
  5. 나와 함께 있는 모든 군인은 그 성으로 접근하겠다. 아이 성 사람들이 우리와 싸우려고 나오면, 우리는 지난번과 같이 뒤돌아서 도망칠 것이다.
  1. Now the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear or be dismayed Take all the people of war with you and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.
  2. "You shall do to Ai and its king just as you did to Jericho and its king; you shall take only its spoil and its cattle as plunder for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it."
  3. So Joshua rose with all the people of war to go up to Ai; and Joshua chose 30,000 men, valiant warriors, and sent them out at night.
  4. He commanded them, saying, "See, you are going to ambush the city from behind it. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.
  5. "Then I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. And when they come out to meet us as at the first, we will flee before them.

  1. "They will come out after us until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, 'They are fleeing before us as at the first.' So we will flee before them.
  2. "And you shall rise from your ambush and take possession of the city, for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
  3. "Then it will be when you have seized the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do it according to the word of the LORD. See, I have commanded you."
  4. So Joshua sent them away, and they went to the place of ambush and remained between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua spent that night among the people.
  5. Now Joshua rose early in the morning and mustered the people, and he went up with the elders of Israel before the people to Ai.
  1. 그와 함께 있던 군인들이 모두 쳐올라가서 성 앞에 다다랐다. 그들은 아이 성의 북쪽에 진을 쳤다. 그와 아이 성 사이에는 한 골짜기가 있었다.

  1. Then all the people of war who were with him went up and drew near and arrived in front of the city, and camped on the north side of Ai. Now there was a valley between him and Ai.
  2. And he took about 5,000 men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
  3. So they stationed the people, all the army that was on the north side of the city, and its rear guard on the west side of the city, and Joshua spent that night in the midst of the valley.
  4. It came about when the king of Ai saw it, that the men of the city hurried and rose up early and went out to meet Israel in battle, he and all his people at the appointed place before the desert plain. But he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
  5. Joshua and all Israel pretended to be beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
  1. 그러자 성 안에 있는 모든 백성이 동원되어, 그들을 따라잡으려고 여호수아의 뒤를 쫓았다. 그들은 성으로부터 멀리 떨어졌다.
  2. 아이 성과 베델에는, 이스라엘 군대를 추격하지 않고 남아 있는 사람이 하나도 없었다. 그들은 성문을 열어 둔 채 이스라엘 군대를 추격하였다.

  5. 아이 성 사람들이 뒤를 돌아보니, 연기가 그 성에서 하늘로 치솟고 있었다. 그들은 어느 곳으로도 도망할 수 없게 되었다. 광야로 도망하는 척하던 이스라엘 군대는 뒤쫓던 사람들에게로 돌아섰다.
  1. And all the people who were in the city were called together to pursue them, and they pursued Joshua and were drawn away from the city.
  2. So not a man was left in Ai or Bethel who had not gone out after Israel, and they left the city unguarded and pursued Israel.
  3. Then the LORD said to Joshua, "Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand." So Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.
  4. The men in ambush rose quickly from their place, and when he had stretched out his hand, they ran and entered the city and captured it, and they quickly set the city on fire.
  5. When the men of Ai turned back and looked, behold, the smoke of the city ascended to the sky, and they had no place to flee this way or that, for the people who had been fleeing to the wilderness turned against the pursuers.
  1. 여호수아와 온 이스라엘 사람은, 복병이 그 성을 점령하고, 연기가 그 성에서 치솟는 것을 보고는, 돌이켜서 아이 성의 사람들을 무찔렀다.

  1. When Joshua and all Israel saw that the men in ambush had captured the city and that the smoke of the city ascended, they turned back and slew the men of Ai.
  2. The others came out from the city to encounter them, so that they were trapped in the midst of Israel, some on this side and some on that side; and they slew them until no one was left of those who survived or escaped.
  3. But they took alive the king of Ai and brought him to Joshua.
  4. Now when Israel had finished killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the field in the wilderness where they pursued them, and all of them were fallen by the edge of the sword until they were destroyed, then all Israel returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword.
  5. All who fell that day, both men and women, were 12,000--all the people of Ai.
  1. 여호수아는, 아이 성의 모든 주민을 전멸시켜서 희생제물로 바칠 때까지, 단창을 치켜든 그의 손을 내리지 않았다.
  2. 오직 가축과 그 성의 전리품은, 주님께서 여호수아에게 명하신 말씀대로 이스라엘이 차지하였다.

  1. For Joshua did not withdraw his hand with which he stretched out the javelin until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
  2. Israel took only the cattle and the spoil of that city as plunder for themselves, according to the word of the LORD which He had commanded Joshua.
  3. So Joshua burned Ai and made it a heap forever, a desolation until this day.
  4. He hanged the king of Ai on a tree until evening; and at sunset Joshua gave command and they took his body down from the tree and threw it at the entrance of the city gate, and raised over it a great heap of stones that stands to this day.
  5. Then Joshua built an altar to the LORD, the God of Israel, in Mount Ebal,
  1. 그것은 주님의 종 모세가 이스라엘 자손에게 명령한 대로, 또 모세의 율법책에 기록된 대로, 쇠 연장으로 다듬지 아니한 자연석으로 쌓은 제단이다. 그들은 그 위에서 번제와 화목제를 주님께 드렸다.

  1. just as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of uncut stones on which no man had wielded an iron tool; and they offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
  2. He wrote there on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he had written, in the presence of the sons of Israel.
  3. All Israel with their elders and officers and their judges were standing on both sides of the ark before the Levitical priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, the stranger as well as the native Half of them stood in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, just as Moses the servant of the LORD had given command at first to bless the people of Israel.
  4. Then afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
  5. There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel with the women and the little ones and the strangers who were living among them.
 
  기브온과의 화친(9:1-9:27)    
 
  1. 요단 강 서쪽의 야산과 평원지대와 지중해 연안에서 레바논에 이르는 곳에 사는 헷 사람과 아모리 사람과 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람과 히위 사람과 여부스 사람의 모든 왕이 이 소식을 듣고,
  2. 함께 모여서, 여호수아와 이스라엘에 맞서서 싸우기로 뜻을 모았다.
  3. 히위 사람인 기브온 주민들은, 여호수아라는 사람이 여리고 성과 아이 성에서 한 일을 듣고서,
  4. 여호수아를 속이기로 결정하였다. 그들은 낡은 부대와 해어지고 터져서 기운 가죽 포도주 부대를 나귀에 싣고서, 외모를 사절단처럼 꾸미고 길을 떠났다.
  5. 발에는 낡아서 기운 신을 신고, 몸에는 낡은 옷을 걸쳤으며, 마르고 곰팡이 난 빵을 준비하였다.
  1. Now it came about when all the kings who were beyond the Jordan, in the hill country and in the lowland and on all the coast of the Great Sea toward Lebanon, the Hittite and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, heard of it,
  2. that they gathered themselves together with one accord to fight with Joshua and with Israel.
  3. When the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,
  4. they also acted craftily and set out as envoys, and took worn-out sacks on their donkeys, and wineskins worn-out and torn and mended,
  5. and worn-out and patched sandals on their feet, and worn-out clothes on themselves; and all the bread of their provision was dry and had become crumbled.
  1. 그들은 길갈 진에 있는 여호수아에게 와서, 그와 이스라엘 사람들에게 말하였다. "우리는 먼 곳에서 왔습니다. 이제 우리와 조약을 맺어 주십시오."

  1. They went to Joshua to the camp at Gilgal and said to him and to the men of Israel, "We have come from a far country; now therefore, make a covenant with us."
  2. The men of Israel said to the Hivites, "Perhaps you are living within our land; how then shall we make a covenant with you?"
  3. But they said to Joshua, "We are your servants." Then Joshua said to them, "Who are you and where do you come from?"
  4. They said to him, "Your servants have come from a very far country because of the fame of the LORD your God; for we have heard the report of Him and all that He did in Egypt,
  5. and all that He did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon and to Og king of Bashan who was at Ashtaroth.
  1. 그래서 우리 땅에 살고 있는 장로들과 모든 주민이 우리를 이리로 보냈습니다. 우리 기브온 주민은, 종이 될 각오가 되어 있다는 것을 말씀드리고, 우리와 평화조약을 맺어 달라고 하는 부탁을 하려고, 길에서 먹을 양식을 준비해 가지고 이렇게 왔습니다.
  2. 우리가 가져 온 이 빵을 보십시오, 우리가 이리로 오려고 길을 떠나던 날, 집에서 이 빵을 쌀 때만 하더라도 이 빵은 따뜻하였습니다. 그러나 보십시오, 지금은 말랐고, 곰팡이가 났습니다.
  3. 우리가 포도주를 담은 이 가죽부대도 본래는 새것이었습니다. 그런데 보십시오, 낡아서 찢어졌습니다. 우리의 옷과 신도 먼 길을 오는 동안 이렇게 낡아서 해어졌습니다."

  1. "So our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, 'Take provisions in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them and say to them, "We are your servants; now then, make a covenant with us."'
  2. "This our bread was warm when we took it for our provisions out of our houses on the day that we left to come to you; but now behold, it is dry and has become crumbled.
  3. "These wineskins which we filled were new, and behold, they are torn; and these our clothes and our sandals are worn out because of the very long journey."
  4. So the men of Israel took some of their provisions, and did not ask for the counsel of the LORD.
  5. Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them, to let them live; and the leaders of the congregation swore an oath to them.
  1. 이스라엘 사람들은, 그들과 조약을 맺은 지 사흘이 지난 뒤에, 자기들과 조약을 맺은 사람들이 가까운 이웃이고, 자기들 가까이에서 사는 사람들임을 알게 되었다.
  2. 이스라엘 자손은 그리로 가서 보려고 길을 떠났는데, 겨우 사흘 만에 자기들과 조약을 맺은 사람들이 살고 있는 여러 성읍에 이르렀다. 그들이 살고 있는 성읍은 기브온과 그비라와 브에롯과 기럇여아림이었다.
  3. 그러나 이스라엘 자손은, 회중의 지도자들이 주 이스라엘의 하나님의 이름을 두고 조약을 지키기로 그들에게 맹세하였기 때문에, 그들을 칠 수 없었다. 그래서 온 회중이 지도자들을 원망하였다.
  4. 그러나 모든 지도자들이 온 회중에게 말하였다. "우리가 주 이스라엘 하나님의 이름을 두고 그들에게 맹세하였으므로, 그들을 해칠 수 없습니다.
  5. 우리가 그들에게 할 일이라고는, 그들을 살려 두어서, 우리가 그들에게 맹세한 맹세 때문에 받게 될 진노가 우리에게 내리지 않게 하는 것뿐입니다.
  1. It came about at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were neighbors and that they were living within their land.
  2. Then the sons of Israel set out and came to their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon and Chephirah and Beeroth and Kiriath-jearim.
  3. The sons of Israel did not strike them because the leaders of the congregation had sworn to them by the LORD the God of Israel. And the whole congregation grumbled against the leaders.
  4. But all the leaders said to the whole congregation, "We have sworn to them by the LORD, the God of Israel, and now we cannot touch them.
  5. "This we will do to them, even let them live, so that wrath will not be upon us for the oath which we swore to them."
  1. 그러나 비록 그들을 살려 둔다 하더라도, 우리 가운데서 나무 패는 자와 물 긷는 자로 살아가도록 그들을 제한할 것입니다." 지도자들이 이렇게 제안한 것을 회중이 받아들였다.
  2. 여호수아가 그들을 불러다가 말하였다. "당신들은 우리 가까이에 살면서, 어찌하여 아주 멀리서 왔다고 말하여 우리를 속였소?
  3. 당신들이 이렇게 우리를 속였기 때문에, 당신들은 저주를 받아서, 영원히 종이 되어, 우리 하나님의 집에서 나무를 패고 물을 긷는 일을 하게 될 것이오."
  4. 그들이 여호수아에게 대답하였다. "우리가 그렇게 속일 수밖에 없었던 까닭은, 주 하나님이 그의 종 모세에게 명하신 것이 참으로 사실임을 우리가 알았기 때문입니다. 하나님이 이 땅을 다 이스라엘 사람에게 주라고 명하셨고, 이스라엘 사람이 보는 앞에서 이 땅에 사는 모든 사람을 다 죽이라고 명하셨다는 것을, 우리가 들어서 알았습니다. 우리가 속임수를 쓸 수밖에 없었던 것은, 우리가 이스라엘 사람 때문에 목숨을 잃을까 두려워하였기 때문입니다.
  5. 이제 우리를 마음대로 하실 수 있으니, 처분만을 기다리겠습니다."
  1. The leaders said to them, "Let them live." So they became hewers of wood and drawers of water for the whole congregation, just as the leaders had spoken to them.
  2. Then Joshua called for them and spoke to them, saying, "Why have you deceived us, saying, 'We are very far from you,' when you are living within our land?
  3. "Now therefore, you are cursed, and you shall never cease being slaves, both hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God."
  4. So they answered Joshua and said, "Because it was certainly told your servants that the LORD your God had commanded His servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land before you; therefore we feared greatly for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.
  5. "Now behold, we are in your hands; do as it seems good and right in your sight to do to us."
  1. 여호수아는 그들을 보호하기로 결정을 내리고, 이스라엘 사람들이 그들을 죽이지 못하게 하였다.
  2. 바로 그 날로 여호수아는 그들을, 회중을 섬기고 주님의 제단을 돌보는 종으로 삼아, 나무를 패고 물을 긷는 일을 맡게 하였다. 그들은 오늘까지 주님께서 택하신 곳에서 그 일을 하고 있다.
  1. Thus he did to them, and delivered them from the hands of the sons of Israel, and they did not kill them.
  2. But Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation and for the altar of the LORD, to this day, in the place which He would choose.
