- 그대는 신도를 일깨워서, 통치자와 집권자에게 복종하고, 순종하고, 모든 선한 일을 할 준비를 갖추게 하십시오.
- 또, 아무도 비방하지 말고, 싸우지 말고, 관용하게 하며, 언제나 모든 사람에게 온유하게 대하게 하십시오.
- 우리도 전에는 어리석고, 순종하지 아니하고, 미혹을 당하고, 온갖 정욕과 향락에 종노릇 하고, 악의와 시기심을 가지고 살고, 남에게 미움을 받고, 서로 미워하면서 살았습니다.
- 그러나 우리의 구주이신 하나님께서 그 인자하심과 사랑하심을 나타내셔서
- 우리를 구원하셨습니다. 그분이 그렇게 하신 것은, 우리가 행한 의로운 일 때문이 아니라, 그분의 자비하심을 따라 거듭나게 씻어주심과 성령으로 새롭게 해 주심으로 말미암은 것입니다.

- 그래서 우리는 그분의 은혜로 의롭게 되어서, 영원한 생명의 소망을 따라 상속자가 되었습니다.
- 이 말은 참됩니다. 나는 그대가, 이러한 것을 힘있게 주장해서, 하나님을 믿는 사람으로 하여금 선한 일에 전념하게 하기 바랍니다. 선한 일은 아름다우며, 사람에게 유익합니다.
