- 벌받기를 좋아하는 사람은 싸우기를 좋아한다. 패가망신을 원하는 사람은 집을 치장하기를 좋아한다.
- 마음이 비뚤어진 사람은 복을 얻지 못하고, 거짓말만 하는 혀를 가진 사람은 재앙에 빠진다.
- 미련한 자식을 둔 부모는 걱정이 그칠 새가 없고, 어리석은 자식을 둔 부모는 기쁨이 없다.
- 즐거운 마음은 병을 낫게 하지만, 근심하는 마음은 뼈를 마르게 한다.

- A man lacking in sense pledges And becomes guarantor in the presence of his neighbor.
- He who loves transgression loves strife; He who raises his door seeks destruction.
- He who has a crooked mind finds no good, And he who is perverted in his language falls into evil.

- 악인은 가슴에 안겨 준 뇌물을 먹고서, 재판을 그르친다.
- 슬기로운 사람의 눈은 지혜를 가까이에서 찾지만, 미련한 사람은 눈을 땅 끝에 둔다.
- 미련한 자식은 아버지의 근심이고, 어머니의 고통이다.
- 의로운 사람을 벌주는 것은 옳은일이 아니다. 존귀한 사람을 정직하다고 하여 때리는 것도 바른일이 아니다.
- 아는 것이 많은 사람은 말을 삼가고, 슬기로운 사람은 정신이 냉철하다.
